  • Celebrate The Lunar New Year With Dragonfire Sonic & Tails In Forces Speed Battle & Dash!

    The Lunar New Year is fast approaching! In fact, it's on February 10th of this year! Of course, a special occasion like this is a golden opportunity for some more additions to the casts of Sonic Forces Speed Battle and Sonic Dash. So, SEGA Hardlight is doing that very thing! Dragonfire Sonic and Dragonfire Tails are coming to both mobile games next week!

    Now, it probably doesn't need to be said, but the reason that dragons are being so heavily featured here is because the new Lunar New Year will be the Year of the Dragon. So, it's only fitting that that Sonic and Tails are making appearances as Dragonfire characters. In case you were curious, the current Lunar New Year that is about to end is the Year of the Rabbit.

    Anyway, as for any other details, well, there really isn't any. We don't know what abilities or statistics they will have. The exact day that they're going to be available isn't really known either, SEGA Hardlight only mentions "next week" as a release period. It isn't even known what players will need to do to unlock them. So, there's not a whole lot to say about this. SEGA Hardlight did release a neat render though:

    Nevertheless, since there's only a week of waiting, we'll find out more soon enough. And it's not like there isn't anything to do in the meantime either! Sonic Dream Team and Sonic Superstars got new updates earlier this month, and Sonic Prime's third season recently premiered. So, if you haven't done any of those things and you're wanting to pass the time until Dragonfire Sonic and Dragonfire Tails arrive, now is a good time to do so!

    These are so cool... it's a shame that these outfits are likely gonna stay locked to mobile games and never appear in the 'main series' as unlockables or anything. I'm already trying to imagine what sorts of move sets these new duds would give our kiddos in a game like Superstars or Dream Team...

    Better yet, imagine if Prime could just make worlds based on Speed Battle outfits.

    Sports World where everyone plays a game of foot-base-basket-americanfoot-ball,
    RPG World where team of brave knights fight Warlock Infinite
    Music World, self explanatory.

    Nice to see Tails getting some more love. After having no alts for the longest time, now he's up to a small handful.

    Both models look great. Real winners here.

    Well you never know.

    Some of the more modest looks, like Amy, Cream Rouge's winter outfits in the 'Chao Races' IDW series started life as Sonic Channel images.

    on top of that, Frontiers and Colors Ult. cracked the door open on mods to change up Sonic's appearance, some fairly drastically in Frontiers case, so its fairly low hanging fruit to imagine some of the more popular designs being used in the future.

    They are amazing, like all other doppelgangers from what I call "the Lunar New Year Dimension" like Lunar Blaze, Lantern Silver and Lucky Whisper!!...

    For me, all these characters are not just skins but doppelgangers from other dimensions (like Sinbad, Sir Lancelot or Dread) since they have their own attacks and stats!!...

    There are the Christmas Dimension (for instance Santa Big and Snowdrift Sonic), the Halloween Dimension (Vampire Shadow, Mummy Knuckles and so on), the Pirate Dimension (Pirate Sonic and Captain Shadow), the Music Dimension (Punk Zazz, Rockstar Rouge and so on), the Sport Dimension (Slugger Sonic, Tidal Wave and so on), the Cosplay Dimension (Unicorn Creamy and Panda Amy), something like the Future or Job or Action Dimension (Treasure Hunter Knuckles and Elite Agent Rouge), the Movie Dimension (Longclaw, Movie Knuckles and so on), the Lunar New Year Dimension and so on...

    I love HARDlight's work very much and I hope they will keep on expanding their other dimensions with many more doppelgangers like for instance Vampire Sonic, Gothic Amy and Pumpkin Omega (at least) for my favorite Halloween Dimension!!...

    Girls and guys from HARDlight, keep on making SONIC fans dream forever!!...

    In facture, we need a "Dimensional" RPG where Sonic would Travel from dimension to Dimension and meet all these great doppelgangers!!...

    SONIC is a marvellous multiverse!!...

    Now I'm imagining a fangame RPG dedicated to traveling throughout the Sonic multiverse and meeting all sorts of different characters from different spin-off games/media and whatnot, ranging from the fan favorites to the really obscure ones to the pure memes. "Project X Zone" but with the Sonic multiverse. There'd be something vaguely resembling a plot tacked on, but the real storyline would be the character interactions.

    Sadly it would take forever for the fans to actually make something like this, and Sega certainly ain't gonna do it. The last time anyone tried making a Sonic RPG with ties to spinoff media, there were literal lawsuits about it.

    And JAKKS Pacific should make 4" and 2.5" figures (please, no 5" figures, they're too Big compared to the rest of the collection and they have ugly points of articulation) from all HARDlight's doppelgangers!!...

    I'd love to have (at least) a figure of Slugger Sonic : he's not my favorite doppelganger but he is very dear to my heart because I consider him as the symbole of HARDlight's doppelgangers...

    I've unlocked Dragonfire Sonic, he is so great!!...
    As usual, SonicWindBlue made a gameplay video for him :

     

     

    And he also made one for Dragonclaw Tails even if we have to wait one more week to unlock him :
