It's a Sonic community event that celebrates its 20th birthday this year, but that doesn't mean it is going to be taking the year off. The Sonic Hacking Contest is back for 2022!
As previously mentioned, this is the 20th anniversary of the event. The Sonic Hacking Contest began in 2002. Back then, the contest went much longer than a week. On average, it would take place over a span of a few months. Sometimes, the contest was held even longer than that. In fact, 2006 and 2009's went for 9 months!
Even as recently as 2011, it would go on for months. And it wasn't uncommon for a contest year to conclude a few months before another one. For example, 2011's ended on July 23rd after lasting for 7 months. Just a few months later, however, 2012's began. It wasn't until 2013 that the Sonic Hacking Contest became a week-long event.
This may be the event's 20th year, but it's actually the 19th time the contest has been held since 2002. It didn't happen in 2003, but that won't be happening this year.
Speaking of which, what about this year's contest? Well, there are a few changes, but the majority of them relate to trophies. A few new trophies will be added this year, and the trophies will be themed once again.
Last but not least is, of course, when the contest will be happening. Last year's dates seemed to work well, so there hasn't been any significant changes in that regard. it will be taking place from October 10th through 16th.
