  • Sonic Fans Believe SEGA is Teasing A Sonic Heroes Remaster

People are picking apart the Sonic Central TailsTube animation for clues.

SEGA’s confirmed appearance at Gamescom 2023 has sent pockets of the Sonic fanbase into a frenzy, with many assuming that the publisher will announce a remaster of Sonic Heroes at the event.

This particular rumour is based off of zero hard facts and information, of course. There have been no clues that SEGA will be bringing anything other than what it has already publicly announced to the Cologne game show. Which means, we assume, Sonic Superstars (although SEGA has not yet shared a list of games it will be bringing to the expo).

But Sonic Twitter has taken it upon itself return to a recent TailsTube sketch on last month’s Sonic Central showcase, in an attempt to find some clues to support the latest rumour.

The screenshot above, taken during the 23 June Sonic Central, shows a distorted screenshot of a cutscene from the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox classic. It was shared by Twitter user ‘DTBROS’, who highlighted the fact that SEGA’s Sonic social channels have a habit of hiding teasers of upcoming games in plain sight.

To be honest, the TailsTube ’glitch’ is a pretty sound theory to support the idea that something is cooking at SEGA. But it’s not proof that anything will be announced at Gamescom - a show that has not traditionally been a venue for significant reveals by AAA publishers (with one or two exceptions).

Of course, the vast majority of fans who are frenetically wishing for a Sonic Heroes remaster on Twitter just seem to be doing so at random. Which honestly sounds like Twitter in general, to us.

All of this is to say that nobody truly knows what Sonic Team and SEGA have planned down the road. They may well surprise us all and announce a Sonic Heroes remaster - if that happens, you’ll be sure to find out about it first here.

I'm gonna be honest. I like things about Heroes such as its soundtrack and level themes, but the game is really rough and I'm not sure it could be justifiably sold on its own (versus bundling it with the Adventure games and maybe Shadow, which would be an even harder sell than Heroes).

Gonna go out on a limb here and say there's almost literally no way they'd do a Heroes remaster before at least porting the Adventure games onto modern consoles.

Sonic Heroes Is a decent game but to me the soundtrack makes up for It. It's one of those games that If you like It or not. Again not the greatest Sonic game I played to be honest.

The Generations Version of Seaside hill (modern) showed what a remake could look like, and that would be amazing...esp. with boost for speed characters. But its too big a game to redo from the ground up

If it dows ever happen, At best a spit and polish job, hopefully with some better controls, a fixed camera or at least make the homing attacks actually work!

Unless this is part an Origins Sequel? The Sonic Adventure Saga with 1,2 and Heroes as the games inluded....Saga plus released later ob to include shadow DLC and game boy advabce games lol

OMG I hope they are cooking a remake/remaster, as it's my all time favourite Sonic game.

If they do this, I hope they keep the Original voice cast, or rehire them for this project.

If the controls were made less slippery, then I'd be happy to get it again.

That said, I now remember how much of an obsessive Amy was in this. Combined with the hammer, this was the Sonic version of Misery.

The garbled up screenshot has multiple images from various Sonic games in it, most easily you can see Classic Eggman arguing with Modern Eggman Generations directly to the left of Sonic Heroes Tails.  This is a massive reach (on behalf of those jumping the gun, not the reporting lol).

    Agree with JezMM, it's reaching.

IF it's happening there really are only few things that can be done to improve the game

    1) Fix the controls
    2) Add easy mode for Chaotix mission (so you can miss one or two crabs, chao, enemies etc)
    3) Add fight with Neo Metal
    4) Give "mute play through" option, if you're tired of listening in-game banter.

I really don't care for slightly shinier graphics or cosmetics. Any other changes (letting you fight Metal after without beating 3 other teams) might be too far from core idea of the game. And I have no idea how to fix bosses.

    5) Maaaaaybe there could be "merged storyline" so you don't have to play game 4 times? Like you keeps switching teams every act? I worry it would still make story messier, no matter how simple it is.

They could add that idea in for Extra hard mode: A post "hobbling" Sonic :chuckle:

Sadly, getting the old group back might be difficult. Deem Bristow (Eggman) died not long after Heroes was released. Tails' actor was a young boy, so his voice would definitely not match now.

They couldn't just add a few lines from the current VAs, not without completely re-recording the entire game.

    6) Make Sea Gate an optional stage visited by every team.
