What stages do you want to see in Sonic Generations?

We're talking from Sonic 1 to SA2, right?

Weeeeeeeell...

Marble - I'm liking the previously mentioned Green Hill/Marble fusion idea as well.

Labyrinth - Because I'm evil.

Scrap Brain - Seeing the very first Robotnik fortress would recieve many a manly tear from me.

Chemical Plant - The return of the Mega Mack! In threeee deeeeeeee!

Aquatic Ruin - It's pretty lol.

Hill Top - Nice view.

Oil Ocean - Very unique.

Metropolis - Featuring the infamous Badnik Bastards.

Wing Fortress - It felt like a true grandoise battle across the clouds rather than Sonic just being all "Let's trash this joint lololol."

Death Egg - Preferably the S3&K version. If you ask me, the Death Egg is to Robotnik what Bowser's Castle is to... well, Bowser. Hopefully it'll show up in all it's mechanical glory.

Quartz Quadrant - Always liked the Past background...

Wacky Workbench - HAHAHAHAHA...

Stardust Speedway - And not simply so I can race Metal. I happen to like the beautiful location in itself.

Hydrocity - Always a classic.

Ice Cap - Obvious one.

ANYTHING from Sonic & Knuckles - (I can't decide! Mushroom Hill and Lava Reef/Hidden Palace and Sandopolis and Sky Sanctuary and Flying Battery and ARRRRGH.)

Windy Valley - It's a nice little place.

Speed Highway - Eh, the best "highway" level IMO. The At Dawn section was a lovely looking town.

Red Mountain - It's hardcore!

Lost World - A wonderful take on the ruins trope.

Final Egg - Get a load of this!

Any of the SA2 Pyramid stages - Robotnik is cool. Pyramids are cool. Therefore Robotnik Pyramids are cool.

1. I know very well that not even half of a list like this would make the cut (should this game indeed feature remade old levels).

2. I would have included other games between Sonic 1-SA2, but they would probably not get as much (if any) recognition. If they do however, then I hope we rediscover Sunset Park!

...Or Crystal Egg. Either will do.

Sonic 1

Green Hill Zone

son1_03.gif

It's the most iconic Sonic level to date, pretty much every game since Sonic 1 has featured some sort of "Hill Zone" type level, at least a level with a grassy theme to it. This is pretty much essential.

Spring Yard Zone

son1_09.gif

I love the music and the abstract city theme of the level is really cool. It's a slow level and would be good to break up the level design a bit between the other faster titles.

Scrap Brain Zone

son1_21.gif

Another pretty iconic level, not one of my all time favorites but of all the Sonic 1 levels besides Green Hill, I expect to see this one in more than any other.

Sonic 2

Chemical Plant Zone

son2_05.gif

My favorite level in the game, with one of my favorite songs in the whole franchise. If SEGA intend on using the Hedgehog Engine in Generations, this is one of the quiniescential levels to showcase pure speed in.

Casino Night Zone

son2_15.gif

The casino motif is among one of my favorites in the whole franchise, I'd be pretty upset if this didn't make it into the game. Slot machines and bumpers are a Sonic-must.

Wing Fortress Zone

son2_37.gif

I love battleship levels, so seeing this in pure 3D would be bliss.

Sonic CD

Palmtree Panic

cd_01.gif

Yeah, another "Green Hill" knockoff, but it's a good one with enough new to justify it's appearence over others such as Emerald Hill.

Collision Chaos

cd_05.gif

Love the completely ridiculous look of the level, it really makes no sense but I don't care. It's zany and crazy, like a combination of Spring Yard and Casino Night.

Stardust Speedway

cd_21.gif

A Sonic vs Metal Sonic race in 3D would be bliss, this MUST get in the final game.

Sonic 3

Angel Island Zone

son3_01.gif

Just because I love the level's song so much, also it has really great flow to it as well. It'd be pretty cool to see Sonic get chased by Robotnik's bomb-dropping battleship near the end of the stage in 3D.

Hydrocity Zone

son3_05.gif

Just a cool stage, not one of my all-time favorites, but a damn good level.

Launch Base Zone

son3_21.gif

Again, not my favorite stage, but it has a kickin' beat and a cool motif. The level design is pretty fun, as well.

Sonic & Knuckles

Flying Battery Zone

s&k_05.gif

Another air-ship level I really liked. Sweet music as well.

Sky Sanctuary Zone

s&k_19.gif

One of the most atmospheric stages among the original 3, this is another MUSTMUSTMUST for the final product. A Project Chaos-esque remix of the level's song would be beautiful.

Death Egg Zone

s&k_27.gif

One of the most iconic final stages yet, this should get in, Doomsday boss included if possible.

Sonic Adventure

Emerald Coast is one of the most memorable levels of the game for me, if only because I never got to play any of the others until I bought the GCN version of the game. I played this level SO MUCH on my friend's Dreamcast, and it's just such a memorable level that it should make it's way into the final game.

Ice Cap from SA was so memorable and fun, the first half of the stage had you slowly going from platform to platform at a sluggish but respectable pace, and the huge finale on the snowboard made the whole trek before hand so worth it. A great choice for Generations.

Speed Highway is one of my favorite levels in Sonic history. The first half speeding you along this crazy highway strip, hopping across enemies and more. After that, running down the huge building as helicopters shine their brights at you. Seeing all this running on the Hedgehog Engine would be magnificent.

Sonic Adventure 2

City Escape is pretty much a given for this game, as it's one of the most loved in the game. The speed and atmosphere of the whole thing just screams "Sonic", even if it's in a realistic setting. I played this level over and over again nonstop literally for years, it's that good. A MUST.

Metal Harbor is one of my favorite levels in the game, it's awesome tune with horns and guitar to boot screams attitude, and the whole level is simply unique and fun. Would love to see this in HD.

Final Rush is just a great final level, although not SA2's best, it'd be a good choice if only because of it's importance to the game it represents.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't honestly expect to see all of these stages in the game, frankly I expect no more than 2 levels per game maximum, but of all the levels in each game these are my most wanted.

I'm probably alone in thinking this, but the multiplayer stages in Sonic 3 don't get nearly enough love. I like all of them, but if I had to name two, I'm a massive fan of Chrome Gadget, and Endless Mine has always held a soft spot for me too. If they could be extended into full-blown levels for a singleplayer romp, I'd die happy.

That's just a pipe dream though, so I might as well name some more likely canditates

Sonic 1: Honestly not that fond of the first game, but I did like Spring Yard more than the other levels at least. Scrap Brain was also pretty memorable in a "you're a complete cunt but I can't hate you for it" kind of way, so I wouldn't mind it making a second appearance. Green Hill is overrated as hell though.

Sonic 2: I've always preferred Emerald Hill to Green Hill for some reason. Don't know why, I guess I just like the more open scenery and design better than GHZ, and the music appeals more to me. Getting past GHZ clones though, Casino Night is an absolute fucking must, as is Chemical Plant, both being pretty much the most memorable stages in the whole game. If we can get a nod to the Sonic 2 Special Stage, even better.

Sonic 3: Angel Island, definently. Besides that I'm kinda indifferent to S3's levels, aformentioned multiplayer stages aside.

Sonic & Knuckles: Flying Battery Flying Battery Flying Battery Flying Battery Lava Reef Flying Battery

Sonic CD: As long as they don't throw in Wacky fucking Workbench, I don't really care. Collision Chaos was alright though, but for mostly the same reasons as Casino Night (and S2 did it better to boot)

SA1: Cross over SA1's Icecap with S3's and we should be good. Besides that, I'd really like a Perfect Chaos themed level of some sort, you know, flooded city and all that, maybe have that usual monster of the week in the background while you're at it.

SA2: Space Colony Ark, no question. I like Lost Ark in particular because of the awesome atmosphere about it, but again you could probably mix themes and gimmicks from several Ark levels to get the best of all of them. Going from dark and eerie inner colony to outer space platforming would be fucking awesome.

The others: Westopolis from ShTH, Soleanna City/Kingdom Valley from '06, Poloy Forest from Tails Adventure, Eggmanland from Unleashed, Sky Babylon from Rush Adventure, Chaos Angel from Advance 3, Gene Gadget from Sonic 3D and The Showdown from Sonic Spinball. Some more likely than others, but oh well.

Personally, I don't want any specific "zones" to appear. I'd like to see old areas appear, such as Angel Island, South Island, the Ark, Central City, etc return, and have levels based on those, but I don't want to play ground-up remakes of classic levels, when I can just go back and play...well, those levels. I mean, think about it: many Sonic games already have remakes of Green Hill Zone, in the form of opening beach levels from pretty much any Sonic game. Same with the casino levels, or space levels, or water levels, etc. Just having new levels set in traditional areas would be perfect for me. That way, we could get new content along with a blast from the past.

For example, we saw Green Hill zone fading away in the trailer, right? How about Paradise Lost Zone? Fading Forest Zone? I dunno, I'm just taking some shots in the dark here.

I like the idea of combining elements of similarly-themed stages. In particular, I think this should be done with the casino/carnival/pinball levels. You could have Casino Night's roullete wheels and flippers, Spring Yard's spiked balls of doom and moving sets of platforms that you have to use to ascend, Carnival Night's balloons and magnetic wheel-things and possibly even a section where the lights go out, and Collision Chaos' bouncy bumpers and bubbles that pop when you hit them. If they want to throw some Casinopolis in, there could even be a lower path that takes you through the sewers. I also think it would be awesome if they would do this with Mushroom Hill and Green Hill and the stages of SA2 that were parallels of each other.

Aside from that...

Sonic 1- Marble Zone, and I would honestly rather see this combined with Hill Top Zone than Green Hill. Also, Star Light Zone would also be awesome.

Sonic 2- Chemical Plant Zone is a must, and I would also love to see Aquatic Relix, Mystic Cave Zone, Oil Ocean Zone, Metropolis Zone (perhaps combined with Scrap Brain) and Winged Fortress combined with Flying Battery.

Sonic CD- Quartz Quadrant and Stardust Speedway.

Sonic 3&K- Ice Cap Zone (combined with SA1 Ice Cap, as Dusk Golem said), Launch Base Zone, Lava Reef Zone, Sky Sanctuary Zone, and Death Egg Zone.

SA1- Emerald Coast, Windy Valley, and Lost World.

SA2- City Escape/Radical Highway for sure, along with Metal Harbor, Green Forest/White Jungle, Pyramid Cave, Sky Rail, and Final Rush/Chase.

Out of all of the stages previously mentioned here, I'm going to go out of my way and say a hub level of the Egg Carrier, providing the aircraft returns in this game.

That was just so fun. Going through Eggman's stuff made you feel so naughty told you so much about the character. We need more character personalization.

Metal Harbor isn't getting enough love. :(

Forget City Escape, when I think of SA2, I think of Metal Harbor.

not even going to bring up Sonic 1 due to obviously green hill zone.

Sonic 2: Chemical Plant, Hill Top, Metropolis,

(the music orchestrated would oh my god my pants), Oil Ocean

Sonic 3: Ice Cap, fo' sho' Launch Base, Flying Battery, Lava Reef, Death Egg, Carnival Night

Sonic CD: Quartz Quadrant, only if the level isn't retarded, and shares literally zero level design traits with the original, just the same theme and colors and such.

Adventure: Windy Valley, Final Egg, I guess Lost Ruins?

Adventure 2: White Jungle/Green Forest, Metal Harbor, The Pyramid Whatever The Fuck It's Name Is.

Also the first level from Sonic 2 GG/MS. ENTIRELY MADE OF MINECART, CONTROLLED BY TRIGGERS. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Actually that'd be pretty sweet done right.

I don't have my hopes up AT ALL but if we were to get anything, even just music, from Sonic 2 8-bit, I would be so so happy. Though the levels are actually pretty small in the 8-bit games...

Did have a comprehensive list of levels I wanted but firefox decided to randomly refresh the page because I hit god knows what key (certainly not F5) and I lost it. 8I

Sadly I doubt anything from 06 will be recycled.

I'm sure we will see Chemical Plant from Sonic 2. It's just the stage that everyone can remember is that. Also I want to see a Space Colony Level shoved in there. However, a grinding level won't have the same effect if it plays like Unleashed.

Let's see. Following on from the earlier suggestions that they release new levels that encompass older zones within them, I'm going to suggest which motifs - and specifically which version of that motif if it regularly occurs in the franchise - I'd like to show up. In other words, I'm suggesting level themes and returning gimmicks, not specific level layouts - and to a lesser extent I'm also recommending the tone of the BGM as well. I'll also give a rough level progression order as well.

Let's also not forget that the cut off point appears to be 2001, not 1994.

Tropical Greenery - Emerald Hill

Civilisation Ruins - Rusty Ruin

Flooded Ruins - Hydrocity

Manufacturing Facility - Chemical Plant

Pinball Antics - Collision Chaos

Rigged Casino - Casinopolis

Exotic Cave - Quartz Quadrant

Eggman's Mobile Base - Sky Deck

Airborne Ruins - Sky Sanctuary

Surreal Greenery - Mushroom Hill

Open Air Raceway - Stardust Speedway

Mountain Peak - Ice Cap

Experimental Laboratory - Wacky Workbench

Volcano Exploitation Facility - Volcano Valley

Eggman's Main Base - Metallic Madness

Eggman's Overbudget Space Station - Death Egg

Eggman's Last Resort - Final Zone (S3D)

Super vs. Ultimate Getaway ex Machina Vehicle - Doomsday

NB: I certainly wouldn't mind City Escape either, but I can't see how you'd fit it in.

Ah cool, 3D Blast was a guilty pleasure of mine, so it's nice to see that game get it's fair share. It's Final Zone would be interesting to see, and I'd even go as far as to say that it would make complete sense, since there was no explanation (if I remember correctly...) on what the hell it was back in 3D Blast, but it looks like something time/space/something-related. Volcano Valley and Rusty Ruin are also very good choices IMO.

Just don't be too surprised if others throw torches at Wacky Workbench.

Agreed, but I'm not suggesting they bring back WW's level layout. WW is easily the worst 2D stage in history in terms of level layout because it effectively forces you to use the highest possible route through the stage or get stuck forever.

However, super fun lightning-powered bumper floor is too awesome to pass up.

Don't count on it, the game did erase itself afterall.

Anyway I'd like to see Spring Stadium Zone, Sky Deck, Stardust Speedway, and Quartz Quadrant.

Edit: Shoot forgot to add Marble Zone.

Ah yes, I knew that. I myself was not too big a fan of it either (though I didn't hate it nearly as much as others), but I did like the ice cannons and insane bounce-floors and the secret hidden Angel/Robotnik statue that shoots bombs.

That and the Past background. Always love me some western deserts.

You know what, I doubt I'll be disappointed with the level selection if it is classic remakes. So many tropes have been don't 3D yet, and even when they have been done there's nowhere near the variation that the classic have. We don't have anything like... Marble Zone, Labyrinth, Spring Yard, Aquatic Ruin, Mystic Cave, Hydrocity, Marble Garden, Mushroom Hill (plenty of forests, no deciduous ones though), Lava Reef 2/Hidden Palace and plenty more. Even something like Starlight would look very nice and original because we tend to have fairly generic-looking city levels outside of Radical Highway. So yeah, not gonna complain.

To this day, I still feel that Sky Sanctuary is by far one of the best stages ever made in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

It's beautiful, it's epic, and it's tragic all at the same time. And the music is brilliant.

You never know - Sonic Team clearly must know it was a flop but they stick to their guns and take it like men. Sonic 2006 DOES appear in the background with all the other games on the new flash website, and after all, the current extra life jingle and Eggman's theme originated in 2006 and seem to be becoming series staples (hell, the extra life jingle even announces the 20th anniversay logo!).

Also hey, that game was glitchy as hell but the level design was pretty solid. I'd love to see them return glitch-free and Unleashified.

If they're going to add anything from Sonic 06, they should add some of Wave Ocean's influence into the inevitable inclusion of Emerald Coast.

...true that Wave Ocean was based off of Emerald Coast to begin with, but you catch my drift.
