If you don't expect to catch the series on Amazon, or if you're simply looking to collect a physical copy, NCircle (who recently published Sonic Boom on blu-ray) will soon be releasing the first season of Sonic Prime on blu-ray in the U.S.

Though details are light at the moment, the disc will release on March 12th, with pre-orders available now via Barnes & Noble and Amazon at a standard price of $19.99. The set presumably covers the first eight episodes (Amazon's listing cites a 198-minute runtime, accounting for the 44-minute first episode, and seven 22-minute episodes).

Sonic Prime's first season is a little more than a year old now, having launched onto Netflix streaming Dec. 15, 2022. The series' third and final season will premiere next month, Jan. 11, 2024.

I'm planning to pick up an used copy sometime down the line because I really do not want to give NetFlix money, but I did watch the three episodes that NetFlix uploaded to YouTube and I liked them enough that I wanna see the whole thing.

NCircle, is that the lot who published some of the old show Blu Rays/ DVD's? If so, expect bare minimum on the disks and no versions outside the US.

No, that would be Discotek. Given this is a Netflix show, I'd say there's at least a decent chance of it being available worldwide.

NCircle is the main distributor for every Sonic series besides Sonic X. They've released DVD sets of AOSTH, SATAM, Underground, and even a blu-ray of Boom. Discotek has the rights to Sonic X and blu-ray rights to AOSTH (which were obtained by a different licensor than WildBrain given AOSTH's unique production circumstances).

It's not at all surprising that NCircle got the rights to Prime, as they have a close relationship with both WildBrain and Sega through their previous Sonic releases. I imagine this release will be similar to their release of Boom, especially if they're jumping in with a blu-ray compared to Boom which started with DVDs. I am at least glad Prime is getting a home video release; Netflix tends to prevent series they control from being released on home video with a few exceptions. Sega and WildBrain probably negotiated those rights ahead of time which I certainly appreciate.

Since it's being marketed as Season One in the name I imagine it's probably just what Netflix has listed as season one. If that is the case that's... mildly disappointing, since it wouldn't be hard to fit the entire 24 episodes on 1 or 2 blu-ray discs anyway. Oh well.

Hopefully this doesn't end up getting screwed over like some other Netflix home releases which only get partially released.

Agreed. But even if we don't get the full series, I'll take what I can get if I can get it while continuing to avoid to 1. pirate and 2. give NetFlix money. (I.E. buy the disk[s] used.)

Ehh...I'm disappointed to hear they're splitting these up by season. I'd hoped that I would be able to make one purchase and be done with it.

That said, I'm happy to hear it's getting a physical release! Now I won't have to worry about losing access to this show if Netflix were to ever pull it from their services or if I decide to cancel my subscription. Hoorah!

*cries in Disney+*

Yeah, it's not great when exclusive content gets pulled forever. I'm looking at you, Mysterious Benedict Society.
