If this is also releasing on MacOS,  then the only choice someone on Windows could possibly play the game is through some sort of virtual machine lile VirtualBox or VMware, but regardless of that, this sucks! And the possibility of it not releasing anywhere else and staying on Apple products for the rest of time sucks even more!

I have some IT background from this, and apparently this is currently not possible. This game runs on ARM architecture, not x64 - which most of our PCs run.

This game will not run on pre-M1/Apple Silicon Macs for this very reason.

Well, developer contracts with Apple’s arcade service are not ‘indefinite’ but are either extended or dropped annually. Whether there may be additional terms regarding exclusivity have never been disclosed afaik. If I remember correctly, there have already been 2 waves of games that left Apple Arcade due to contracts not been renewed. Sega HARDlight has been with them from the beginning with Sonic Racing, a version of Sonic Dash without microtransactions, Chu-Chu Rocket, and more recently an extended version of Samba de Amigo. So basically, a PC or even Android version of this are not out of the question, but be prepared to wait for years.

Yeah have fun not being able to play this game ever again once it gets inevitably delisted three years from now. That plus not owning an Apple device is why I can't get excited for this game.

While only like 15 AA games have been delisted out of 200+, none of those are from big developer names. And if it ever gets delisted, it's because Sega believes they can make more money with the game being multi-platform with IAPs and ads.

Besides because Apple got involved with the development of the game, it's highly unlikely to be delisted.

Oh well, it was a mobile game anyway so I probably won't be missing out on too much. Surely SEGA isn't going to go all Kingdom Hearts on us, considering the sad state of Runners.

Uh-huh.

So where's my Chuchu Rocket Universe port

Assuming this game never gets ported, is there going to be a method of game preservation for it? Some way to keep it playable, even after its eventual delisting in the future?

As an example, I recently bought an Apple iPad Gen 3, then used a software mod to install old games that have been delisted for over a decade.

I don't know if there's a way to have long-term preservation for Apple Arcade games, the way you can with standard .ipa games.

Well…yeah. Maybe the player base for this game was nonexistent for Sega to keep it up on AA. Remember, when the exclusivity deal with Apple ended, it is up to Sega/Hardlight to review the game and ask themselves is it worth keeping the updates up for it? The answer was probably no and delisted it.

That is also why they probably went against porting it to other devices because it’s not worth it. The reason why this game exists in the first place is because of Apple’s contract.

I think it will be different with Sonic and particular this game. Sonic is a much bigger franchise, and other Sonic titles launched on AA are still available.

Not to mention this is the first Sega game Apple got involved in.

Well, that's a shame. I don't have Apple Arcade, an Apple device, or even the money to buy one. I guess I'll resort to watching a streamer. I do hope that they eventually release it to other mobile platforms, but it's highly unlikely. It looks really interesting though...

I thought most people had an apple device or some kind. Aren't they like everywhere? - I'm not trying to troll - But I always figured since Apple outsells Android, that most would have one. From the way this news rolled off the fanbase it appears not.

Android is about 70% Market share

iOS is roughly 30%

Well bang. I was so off the mark lol. Guess I can't go off my old info I was told then. AS it was wrong. Now I wanna know if Apple actually helped in making this game. IF they did I wouldn't expect it to move on to anything else.

Definitely worth it for me to get an Apple TV device with 2 exclusive Sonic games and likely more to come. Hope the Apple Tv 2022 is getting a good Black Friday deal.
