Anyone else just discover the whole Frontiers auto-save =/= save file issue?

Because I just did...

Last night I decided to do a new file for the heck of it, then when I went back to the main menu I discovered my original completed file was gone! Why would auto-save NOT go to the first empty slot, instead of being a weirdly-separate thing? What other games are even coded like this??

Do I really have to rush through the whole game again JUST to play the new DLC now!?? :boi::boi::boi:
