Convicts!

You have been tasked with the goal of cleansing Hive World Tertium of any and all heretical activity by orders of the Imperium's Inquisition! You and your ragtag group of fellow miscreants will go down into the sub-levels of the hive to root out the ruinous rot within. Though you are condemned criminals to Imperial law, you are not without redemption and that starts by service for the Inquisition and giving your lives for the Imperium of Mankind. You will likely face countless criminals, dangers, and horrors down in the dregs of Tertium, but know this: The Emperor protects! Fight! and if need be... die for the Imperium.

Ave Imperator, Gloria in excelsis Terra!

Hello, fellow Stadium dwellers and lurkers! It's time I brought some grimdark to the happy-go-lucky corner of the gaming industry that's called the Sonic Franchise. And with Fatshark's upcoming co-op horde shooter Darktide you're sure to get a slice of that grim, gritty, depressive misery that is.. the 41st millennium. All wrapped up in an action-packed and dripping with atmosphere game where the "good" guys are many, but the enemy is without number.

Announced back in 2020 as a follow-up to the successful Warhammer: Endtimes - Vermintide and its more popular sequel Warhammer: Vermintide 2, which was set in the Warhammer fantasy setting, Warhammer 40,000 Darktide sets you in the 41st millennium of our calendar where humanity has spread out to the farthest reaches of the galaxy establishing itself as one of the dominating powerhouses in the galaxy.

You and up to 3 other players make your own character choosing from 4 distinct classes to play in a up to 4 player co-ops fashion going through the sprawling maze of the under levels of the hive city Tertium on the world of Atoma Prime in a gameplay loop heavily inspired by Valve's Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. You will shoot, hack, bash, slash, blast, burn, and "magic" your way through hordes of traitors who have fallen from the light of the Emperor of Mankind and decided to dedicate their lives and souls to more sinister deities gaining dark boons and... blessings(?) for their devotion.

Personally, I'm super hyped for this game as the Warhammer franchise (be it fantasy, 30,000 or 40,000) is dripping with atmosphere from the scenery, writing, aesthetics, harrowing prospects, political intrigue, and tales of heroism. Fatshark's previous games Vermintide 1 and 2 have been tons of fun bashing in the skulls of Skaven and chaos cultists alike with a melee system that feels intuitive and fluid. Backed up by the humorous dynamic of 5 hilariously iconic and memorable characters throwing witty banter at one another while roughhousing their way through the hordes.

Taking this to a 40k setting is a task that has been attempted a few times before, but besides Necromunda: Hired Gun, it's been mainly focused on the poster boys of the warhammer 40k franchise, the Space marines. Darktide serves to show that even the regular human convicts can fend for themselves

To elaborate on the lore and keep it condensed is insanity for it is VAST, but to summarize in extremely oversimplified terms: In the far future of the 41st millennium, there is only war. Death is plentiful, misery abundant, and acts of heroism a scarce commodity to lighten the veil of the suffocating depressing atmosphere that the common person experience in their daily lives. In the process of spreading out to the galaxy, when you invade someone's space uninvited, hostilities commence, and the now known Imperium, led by the half-deceased Emperor of Mankind is beset on all sides by aliens, mutants, dissidents, and the supernatural from without and in this specific game from within.
