That is a lot of focus on combat.

I'm not surprised. Open world games need to have combat to break up the exploring. And given Sonic is FAHST, you're gonna need to really slow the guy down to get the most out of an open world. Otherwise, that open world's gonna be explored pretty quickly.

Its the best one they've ever made.

Or you can drop the cash on a pre-order and get that sweet, sweet Movie Sonic skin.

Edit—meanwhile, let’s all appreciate that (at the time of this post) it’s #3 on YouTube.

Probably helps that Sonic's been on something of a rising good streak ever since the first movie came out in 2020.

Either way, it’s a long way from way back in 2006 when everyone was like “Sonic is dead.”

No telling where the momentum goes from here, but interesting to see this turn around—now let’s hope nothing jinxes it to another 2006.

When all this good PR starts including the actual games themselves then I’ll celebrate

Well, the overall buzz to this latest drop from Frontiers isn't negative, so that's a start. Here's just hoping the 7 minute trailer coming out tomorrow keeps good momentum going.

If the rumored "levels" take place in cyberspace, then they can literally be anywhere and anything. They don't even necessarily have to match the aesthetics of the rest of the game. You can have your casino's  or Eggman bases full of loops and corkscrews and not miss a beat.

Yeah, but you can't explore those environments in an open-world setting if they're just linear bonus levels. Plus, an open-world game usually has towns, right? So more urban or industrialized environments - a staple of the Sonic series - would totally make sense to appear in some places. Maybe they will! These are still really brief clips that don't show everything, after all. But until we see more, we really only have what they've shown us, which isn't much.

So eh, I think it's fine to be disappointed with the lack of variety we've seen so far. I don't want Green Hill Zone specifically, and I agree that zone in particular has been really overused lately, but I would like more "Sonic-y" environments to explore in the open-world Sonic game.

As pretty as the open world looks, as most people have said already, it doesn't look very much like a sonic universe game. Also in comparison, Sonic looks very one dimensional, design wise. I feel for Sonic to match the environment better, they should give him more details like actual fur; his quills look very flat. That, or they redo the environment to match his current design.

I’m very interested but I agree with some others. the game does feel very non-sonicy. its like Sonic got sucked into breath of the wild.

Not sure why they couldnt have stuck with this but made the world more true to Sonic’s universe.

Also this gameplay proves that so called leaked play test was true… i hope they fixed it from those play tests, cause the previews at the time said the game was dull.

I personally think they already fixed many of the problems the playtesters had with the game, because it's looking quite different from what they've described, this is probably because those testers were leaking info from 2020, and the game did get delayed a whole year.

...

Hey, it's actually using the Forces' model, which I like better than the other ones, just so Jakks pacific can make better standing Sonic figures.

I'm happy with the art direction change. It's no more contrasting than Sonic Adventure. Really just excited to see if Sonic can roll to build momentum on the sloping terrain.

Additionally when Sonic runs up the mech he loses his footing in the last few frames and seems to just be in the falling animation while being thrown to the top of the mech. Seems like game maybe not working as intended.
