So, there's a new episode of Bumblekast on YouTube and some of the questions asked here were "humans in the IDW comics" and "two Metal Sonics in Sonic Mania."

Ian just posted up another Bumblekast and this Bumblekast details him writing for Sonic Frontiers, the whole "two worlds" debate and the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie.

Has Sega said which games are canon and can non-canon be adapted at all
Over the years, had some confirmed as Canon while others were not
But that was case by case basis
Never affected adapted
By 160, anything deemed Canon was past point of adaptation

How would imagine Modern and Boom crossover
Think Boom cast was on table at one point because of note about  making bandage joke but not blue arms
But later couldn't use anyone besides Sticks or exclusive characters
Don't remember how panned out
Sonic's would bro it up
Boom Tails would get frustrated by Modern's wide eyed sidekick
Modern Knuckles would have not patience for Boom, which would lead to Brawl before being super friends
Amy would get along fine
Eggman would get along at first but eventually Boom would get on Modern's last nerve 
Shapebots would get mixed up and can't tell difference because same characters 
Think there was cut joke with Boom Orbot was left behind in Reboot world but cut because it could cause rights snafu

How feel of hypercritical media analysis
No, feel large number of criticism comes from one Dvd commentary, seen bad faith YouTube video, decided to have entry level understanding to tear down everything with now
To be fair, everyone should have right to access and criticize media
But there is also a lot of wanting definitive recognition for hot takes where everyone shoots at once and no one is heard
Being on receiving end is weary
Sonic books should be held to some scrutiny and can lead to interesting insights, but others feel need to see deep dark meanings to entire arcs
There are degrees to turn on microscope
There are folks who find fault for sense of superiority when missing out on fun
There are things enjoy that have faults that don't always need another person pointing out what's wrong
There is room for critique, analysis, and enjoyment
(Kyle also likes to consider reasons everything is made the way they were, but criticizing for own sake is silly and perhaps too many vindictive people grew up on Angry Video Nerd & Nostalgia Critic)
Don't need degree in film studies to have opinion, but step back forming opinions outside of TVtropes

March 8 

Between Bucky O’Hare, SwatKats, and Gargoyles, which would write 24 issue comic on

Gargoyle’s., though it’d be intimidating. Greg Wiseman’s baby like someone doing something different with Drogoon  contribute to mythos but feels almost beyond grasp 

Swat Kats is second is fun dumb premise  dudes in fighter jets fighting mutants magicians  with neat artstyle theme and boice acting from what remember   have to do a lot of research  since not to familiar with it so don’t know if robbing cradle(not how that term is used, but gonna roll with it)

Bucky O’Hare was a cartoon mom wouldn’t let watch and don’t remember why  something about it being too violent or gross compared to ninja turtles. It was incidentally something from an indie comic so that’s someone else’s baby too

GI Joe was no go because it was too close to weaponry but thundercats and thunderhawks were  fine because lasersword and giant cat tanks were fine. They were all fantasy, but that’s an argument for years ago.

 

Any plans for Cream in next IDW arc

Not personally contributing much this season, but not gonna spoil Evan’s plans, so can’t say

 

Was Metal Virus beginning and ending the same way intentional

Some is intentional bookend to wrap up run with same thematics

The people in purple using gems is a bit of  a stretch(Starline is burgundy ), though broad enough strokes allow to connect everything

 

Was Cosmo Volume 1 and Mighty Crusaders originally a full blown comic

 Archie isn’t too fond of talking about behind the scenes stuff

Wanted to do more with them with longer term visions and they unfortunately didn’t pan out

(They didn’t seem promoted like minis at the time, so maybe they’ll get to be revisited)

 

Was Forces tie-in gonna include Shadow vs Jackal Squad

They were plotted by Sega, just got to color inside the dots

Never specified what went down and didn’t know they were gone until DLC

As to why, guess Shadow deemed Jackal Squad strong

 

Is a webtoon format something that crossed mind for Drogoon

Not really

Webtoon is just a secondary format for hosting site and thought of formatting twice is just out of question at reasonable speed

Just format to thelimitations and would like to think stand out as different from vertical slice thing everyone else is doing.

Also helps contribute to long term plans of Dead Tree Edition once Volume 1 is done and somehow has funds

Think there should be Sonic game with Roger Craig Smith where the anvil is dropped on characterization

Short answer, no

Over the last 20 years Sonic’s identity has been very experimental with various direction for the characters

Trying to reconcile it all directly in center stage is unnecessary for the principal audience, who will likely play a given game and forget about the series for another five years of development

Even more frightening is the audience for the Movies who don’t know Modern Sonic at all and so

Would love opportunity to spackle the cracks as plain and clean as possible for fans, but feel going to great links to correct everything would do more damage than good

I would require some much time, care, and approval that would never happen to be anything more than a light novel

Best solution is to hope for the best regarding story and gameplay

Understand the appeal of going back to correct mistakes given efforts with the comics, but trying so hard to address narrative faults is the wrong direction

(What’s considered good or bad is also subjective since don’t think recent Sonic jokes are very poor)

Which other city in fiction would you put Sonic & friends in for Sonic X

Could be talking Marvel cities to Bespin to locations from Doom to crater cities of Cowboy Bebop

At that point, just asking what properties to cross Sonic over with

Monsteropolis so we’d get a Season 1 budget for a Megaman Crossover—said that and remembered certain episodes from Season 1, so the ones they cared about

Imagining Megaman in Sonic X style is weird

Rock with a Chris Thorndyke style face is just funky

Wily might transition just fine though

If had to pick,maybe Barionyx just because giant toothed duckbill with sythe hands would be metal as hell for a robot that can bite –name this thing Scream because that’s what you do when you see him coming for ya

What are some of best videogame trilogies out there

Know ending got a lot of flak for being bad, but look back fondly on original Mass Effect trilogy

(People will buy it again because there’s a remaster coming)

On the fence  because not happy with stuff that was shown off

(They changed camera angles—how dare they)

One shot in particular is first game’s shot of giant eldritch machine descending from sky

It was dark with boiling storm clouds and red lightning coursing down its body, which is just a pretty sunset in remaster

The lighting is excellent and pretty graphical fidelity, but it loses all emotion from the moment

Some of it is worth replaying for character moments and Thane along with everyone from 2 is an absolute boss, but idk

(Its tough, but first three Mario games are no doubt classic)

(Course there’s also Classic Trilogy of Sonic, plus Knuckles if that counts too)

It does and I’ll fight anyone till they walk away with a bloody face because I mean it

(Seen love for Arkham games, but only played first one)

No, the first was excellent, second was even better, third soured me

Batmobile segments ruined a lot of it, the jumpscare stuff really turns me off, and felt combat system was less reliable—like there was a lot more frustration

It certainly had a lot of moments to be sure, but overall din’t like story presentation very much and don’t want to go back to play it again

(Could ignore Knight and say Origins instead)

Yes, Asylum is very good, but everything else is just better in City—everything about Arkham with good boss battles

Started to stream Knight and got to point where it stopped being fun and knew we’d eventually get to the point where it’d start being less fun

(Didn’t want to start because thought it was done and finished, but maybe I’ll just do City at some point)

Other than those, having trouble thinking of actual trilogies—can think of pairs, but there’s usually a weak link beyond that

Still enjoyed Mass Effect 3 even it dropped the ball, whereas Halo 3 really soured whole ordeal

Even 2, where there’s not a lot of stages to make go back to play again, but enjoy story and certain stages enough to remember fondly

And first game is fun in own right, flood aside; third game is such a misfire on every level,

(Guess could say Sunshine, Galaxy, and Odyssey)

(Sunshine is the weakest link, but like it personally)

(It’s weird and FLUDD is a very acquired taste, but its such a nice colorful upbeat game with brutal stages without FLUDD)

You can make Yoshi vomit on people and watch him slowly dissolve when fall into water

(Still a fun game, Galaxy is awesome, and Odyssey is amazing, so can say it just gets better)

(Mario Kart has good runs of three, though some are better than others)

(Otherwise, Sonic Racing Games for R to All start Racing and Transformed)

R is a completely different beast more similar to Rivals games

(Yeah, but not a good trilogy and have officially disowned them)

(First was friggin slog that broke me)

(Capcom vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, and Marvel vs Capcom 2 get progressively better and better)

(Same with original three Mortal Kombat games, which get more crazy with more characters)

Know that she got an alternate skin in Speed Battle where the top implies it is clothing, but it looks feather

IDK and its one of those little details that annoys you because you can’t get rid of it

(Maybe its feathery clothing)

Think its just because Jet and Storm both have feather tuft chests, so she too would have that as well as an article of clothing

 

What is  the extent of Sol Emerald’s memory powers

Sega made it very clear that they don’t restore memories

It was Burning Blaze reminding Needlemouse of his own Super State that triggered his memories as Sonic

 

Which Sonic city would you klike

Empire City might be more my speed

(IDK, seems like terrible things happen to all of them)

Notice that Empire City is omitted in some versions of the game

Otherwise its fine, even if traffic would be a nightmare

As far as the story goes, it suffered no effects whatsoever

(For now, until Eggman summons an Eldritch abomination in the middle of it)

(Don’t know which city honestly, as Metropolis SZone doesn’t count—maybe Speed Highway)

 

Are there French versions of Sonic comics

Luckily Notabooks publishing has done translations for IDW Sonic up till Volume 4, so look for them in book stores

They’re only trades rather than individual issues, but they’re better than nothing

 

Do Archie mandates still apply in full to IDW Sonic

From what remember, the results of lawsuit with Sega and EA was timed out

(Aleah corrects that it got thrown out due to statute of limitations more or less)

His beef with them just ran out of time, which was related but not formerly connected to what happened with Archie

That has no connection to licensing rules, which are for how the characters are portrayed in any given medium

MIlitant atriarchal society in harsh living conditions
Rosemary Prower, maybe Amy, and gonna be cheap with saying Babylon Rogues because they have feathers
It's a little hard to really attribute some characters since it could come down to their established species and what little they really gain from it character wise

Since Lost Hedgehog Tales is unlikely to come out, will IDW(gets interrupted)
There's no need to be insulting about shared frustrations but it will come out eventually after reasons that are better off unspecified
Not recycling old ideas for IDW
Yes Metal Virus was a Archie concept but there were no hard storyline or character arcs

Bane vs Mr. Freeze who wins
Gonna have to say Bane 
Freeze outta win due to hitting full force and not taking him lightly
Bane might be hardy, but his crystallizing cells would shattered
But Bane is muscle and brains, so wouldn't bumrush and would set up advantageous scenario to then break him like Kit Kat
Ability vs prep time
(Don't think it'd be long fight, but interesting one)

Do Flynn and Stanley pass ideas back and forth to avoid plot blocking
With Season 3, there were baked in subplots from Bad Guys s jumping on point
Opted to follow her lead and didn't do anything until she pitched her initial plans and looked for where could contribute stories within her framework
Then went back and forth about what would be best and where would be going
Those year long plans of mutual respect then went to editors and Sega
Things adjust as time goes on, in which case we'll ping each other about new ideas
With other books, rarely interact with other writers
MLP and TMNT had pitched individual stories that editor judged whether everything fit greater framework
It's like the annuals, where there was no consistent direction
Back in Archie, Aleah, Tracy, and Evan would come to me first to see if it's cool and would say yeah, I'll follow your lead
Other Archie collaboration would get ideas for their story and five them springboard of first script that can be tinkered with

Do get to have part in translating comics into other language
Curious too because completely out of loop until happen to see and retweet it

On one hand, inclined to say Shredder because most incarnations are universally more competent and lethal than Espio
However, he has long storied history of being beaten by teenage reptiles that know ninjutsu
Don't know if its an intrinsic weakness or if Espio have bonus

(2012 Shredder made turtles lose a lot)
He is terrifying and don't think he ever outright loses a fight, even to Leatherhead
(He's a monster even before he turns into an actual monster)

That was a last minute line edit to appease Sega since it was the beginning of getting a new direction for him
Guess it was ultimately a strong opponent, but isn't one to share his thoughts
He's a shadow of his former self

What was the deal with Ra Moon outright creating the Star Droids and would you have included spinoffs like MegaMan & Bass
That ws simplify and tie together the lore in a way thought made sense
The fact that ra Moon creates a lot of robots and the Star Droids base was very reminiscent of his design iirc connected enough dots
And Capcom seemed to be fine with it
It also gave them more impotence to come there based on him having been there
As for favorite Robot Master, kneejerk is Gutsman
Something about his strong jawline cam shovel gravel

(There's a connection to be made there and it helps that both were written by same person)
Maybe a bit of Classic Sonic with original Dragonball

There is throughline of adventure rather than continuity

Do Hooligans exist in IDW universe
The line referencing them was really pushing the envelope to see what could get away with as backdoor for approval
When they were later pitched, Sega said no they're Classic characters
Argued they already said line and they said, "Yeah we missed it, don't do it again"
And from understanding the Hooligans as a collective term is also off limits unfortunately
So them being together isn't exactly off the table thanks to Mania, but they won't be in IDW
Characterization is up to Sega
What came up with before is because there was nothing available
If and when the opportunity arrives, it will be interesting go see what can be done

The main gimmies that immediately beg for it are Shovel Knight, Hollow knight, and Undertale

Inclined to say Hades except intimidated by thinking the writing wouldn’t be as excellent

Logisitically, Godzilla is no contest

Kong is a powerful monkey and an excellent combatant, but dies if you shoot him with bullets

Sure, Batman could win with enough prep time, but Superman could just laservision him form orbit before he can bat an eyelash

Kinda like Chaos Rings because obscure

World rings are neat in different forms, but they’re so pigeonholed to the storybooks and can’t be used elsewhere

Maybe Chaos rings could indulgently fill the void, though we have enough maguffins flying around as is

Didn’t like Super Emeralds in old Archie since they were so wrong

Didn’t like multiple elemental forms for the one issue they were in

Wasn’t particularly fond of Power rings in old Archie granting Super Form because it created too many avenues for them

Ultra Forms were fine and all, but giving them so much power negates there being so many

With Starline prominent in the miniseries, did anything have to change to be in step with the main book?

Not that can remember

Compared notes with Stanley on how Tri-Core would ultimately work and render for reference

There was an element of hers that was gonna play into later stuff that had to be talked about

But Bad Guys was pretty self-contained, it was Chao Races & Badnik Bases that introduced stuff that will be followed up on to a degree here and there

Don’t recall ton of work needed since both collabed to get the springboard running, so already had a pretty good idea of how things would come together

 

Is there a limit to how dark IDW Sonic can be?

Metal Virus is about as dark as it should get

It was harrowing, but with a degree of cartoony nonsense

There were brightly colored Zombots with no dismembered or truly horrifying stuff

It was more of the situation being taken seriously by characters

The readers could think its either intense or funny in an over the top way

Feel like Archie went too far here and there,

famously Tommy’s explosive exit, but Can’t think of any other way to do it beyond offscreen

Year 3 is about as dark as any Sonic media could get

Wasn’t a big fan of Season 3 Sonic X  since it went too far in some places

[What about Satam]

It has a dark palette, but watching it again fairly recently, it’s goofy here and there

And the severity of it is built up more in the minds of the 30 year olds who watched it

It’s like Megaman X, which looks grim and dramatic next to Classic, but you’re fighting neon colored animal people

Not trying to demean them, but call a spade a spade

[The Zero Series is where it gets dark more than anything, but its still cartoony in super anime style]

Not too familiar, but it was easier to swallow thanks to the design’s color palette and whimsicalness

[It’s honestly the enjoyable theming of twinge of darkness but its not overblown]

Kinda feel like Forces went too far and not far enough

They try to treat it’s subject matter grim and seriously, but didn’t follow it up meaningfully

There’s a bit of side dialogue about Infinite clearly being implied to kill hundreds of soldiers and they never follow up on it

Were they really dead or is it part of the illusion?

You can play things seriously and take it that way, but there’s a level of seriousness that can’t be applied to talking animal people

It’s all about a level of sincerity where the characters reacting seriously to what’s happening to them, which translates to the readers more palettably than real world stakes that can’t be expected to mesh

 

What’s the word on Knuckles being the last of his kind and a treasure hunter?

As far as aware, yeah

He’s still that, guardian of the Master Emerald,

Although he’s not supposed to leave his island except when he does

He would never leave the Master Emerald behind or trust someone else to watch it, except when he does

Do remember when did the Sonic Forces tie-in story and got to the story of Eggman testing the Ruby

Where Knuckles and Silver fight Phantom Chaos before running off to form the Resistance as he gloats about it being successful

Sent them a note asking why he didn’t take the Emerald with him, Sonic Team said Eggman doesn’t want it right now

So tried to rationalize it in the script

 

If Lost Hedgehog Tales was in Droguun, what race would it be?

It would definitely a Droguun: a mythical thing that everyone seeks that never shows up

It’s supposed to be remarkable or worldchanging, but really isn’t that extraordinary when you get down to it

Keep trying to put something out there because it’s not even some hidden secrets

The race themselves are supposed be godly being, but they’re only human

If you could bring back any character from Archie, who would you pick and how would you incorporate them?

Among Archie exclusives, it’s a tossup between Relic and Eclipse.

Knuckles could sorely use an extended supporting case and Eclipse turned out more fun than anticipated, plus they’re the easiest standalones to bring over.

The Meropis crew were more of a unit, Cassia and Clove were more of a unit,

Don’t think any of the Egg Bosses stand up on their own or wouldn’t work without what they’re built around

Tundra wouldn’t work without Rotor and Thunderbolt were just tread the same ground as Starline

[A lot of characters work better with other characters, so stripping away that association is difficult]

[Think you could do it with Breezie, who’d be a very easy character to bring over]

She would kinda run parallel to Clutch, but they’re different enough in presentation that there might be a fun rivalry between them

Nah, she was self serving and would stab anybody in the back

It was kinda horizon expanding with a few highlights, of course the Brotherhood of Metallix, Captain Plunder was adoring everytime he hit the page,

The ancient Echidnas with Dinosaurs is always cool [unless you’re Sonic Underground]

[Remember Brown Sonic running and turning blue as Kintobor becomes Robotnik]

[Very different, but like it]

[And he was brown for six issues, they’d never let that fly today for a panel]

Remember not being as thrilled with the original characters not being Sonic styled antros

But Archie was especially guilty of that in the early days

Captain Plunder didn’t’ remotely look like a Sonic character

 

Thoughts on IDW Transformers?

Haven’t read them

[Have enjoyed what have read]

[Really like Windblade series, that’s why she’s my favorite]

[It’s also been a while, so the details are fuzzy but she’s an interesting character]

Do know what pages have seen have wowed

Drawing a Transformer on model has to be a pain, so can’t even begin how to conceptualize how to make them expressive and emotive

Kudos to the art team for always being spectacular

Remember writing that one crossover story with MLP

Where Jack Lawrence did both the incredibly detailed and dynamic Transformers alongside the Ponies of Ponyville and managed to make it feel natural side by side

Don’t know what kind of dark voodoo he used, but holy crap what an achievement

There’s gotta be a different way to break images down into shapes and can’t do more than what’s in front of me

 

Reaction to pictures of your work being posted out of context and/or for a laugh

Depends on situation

It’s frustrating when people take the quick cheap shot and moves on

Like, would they be laughing and not enjoying the moment in context?

Or maybe you don’t think it’s not how the franchise should be represented in your opinion

Okay, it’s not gonna be for everyone

There’s a difference between laughing at and laughing with

The one that’s be seen the most is the Needleman execution scene

Some said that’s exactly how dark it should be, others were like “What in the world, what idiot did this so beyond the pale” and then there’s the inbetween

And things like when I’m trying my best to rationalize pre-approved Shadow story with new guidelines, you have to take it on the chin and hope for the best

Some accepted the rationalization, others thought it was wildly out of character

Can only do the best I can and hope it entertains the maximum number of people

Overtime, just build a thick skin or become a worse jittery mess

 

Do you think Sega would like you finished SatAM in a comic?

Don’t think so, 99%  no

For one, that’s a very niche market that many grew up with, but we’re a very small audience

Would love to see it resolved, but don’t think there’s the demand

Two, Sega really doesn’t like referencing old spinoff material

Plus the Production cost for IDW

And since the late Ben Hurst put it out there, don’t’ feel comfortable

Heaven forbid anything the framework gets rejected

Or do something on my own and risk ignoring his intentions

 

Will there be new characters from Silver’s future?

Would be interesting to explore his timeline, but would need to either make excuse plot to bring Sonic to unrelated setting or give Silver his own spinoff

It’s hard enough to rationalize him coming to main plot and something else to ignore the main cast to beef up one character

[Something like Sonic Universe would be nice for exploring other characters]

Think a lot of what happened with French Sonic Adventures comic was down to mistranslation, changed plans, or poor communication?

Forget welding, just save hassle by saying its’ a multiverse

Don’t think Alucion was a misinterpreted Knuckles, but wouldn’t be surprised if there were early notes about ancient Echidnas and the Chaos Emeralds that got interpreted a way

Can’t comment since not too familiar with the work and the circumstances around it

Can’t speculate how much was potential mistranslation or the creator deciding to do their own thing

 

How does whole creative process start?
That depends on product and art team

If it’s someone you know from previously , you might not have to provide as much

If you have the base vision of a project being commissioned by someone based solely on portfolio, you want to give everything you can so they aren’t guessing and you need to request much revision

With Drogun for example, the scripts themselves are panel by panel descriptions with notated dword balloons

Also do descriptions of character and settings designs to let know of particular elements

For example, if page 61 shows crew finding temple set in a mountain

Make sure to describe mountain, temple, size of door, and placement without forest

If its just flying over a forest, don’t have to get too deep in the weeds

Make sure to have good communication, give expectations, if allow improvisation, if you’re going to be a particular hardass early on

Give as much concise information to avoid needing novel to draw a single page

[Know from experience, Ian is very detailed]

Leo is 2012 CG Cartoon because it’s the first time he had personality

Bit of a fun dork

Raphael is 2003 CG Movie with Patrick Stewart and a completely pointless monster subplot

Mikey is CG Cartoon

Mostly for moments where he’s a complete goofball child who also has inherent skills that weren’t like others

There were a few moments for him to shine and appreciate that

Donnie might be IDW because nothing animated immediately jumps out

He’s been taken in interesting directions and dire situations

How feel about Stan Lee rant regarding character’s being written non-static

It’s not cut and dry

Power levels can be fun as long as don’t take too seriously, but there are actual metrics that can be used
There’s degree of hard fastness that can be had

In terms of characterization is much broader

Contributing to an ongoing serious should honor as much as possible

It’s tricky in longrunning books because there can be all sorts that sometimes can’t be reconciled

There are instances where one writer’s beliefs don’t line up with everyone else

One stark example is Locke, where the creator saw him as very heroic

Everyone else saw him as monstrous or at least misguided

Personal interpretation is very different, but feel what was done was justified within context of what came before

Disagreements are fine since it is somewhat subjective

It’s a thorny issue due to differing visions and occasional lack of editor oversight, and number of external factors

There should be respect shown to previous material, but can’t say there’s an immutable incarnation of character since they have to grow and change

That’s why there are so many reboots and retcons because some directions are dialed back into more recognizable form

 

Interactions between Sticks and Cosmo
Hilarious because Sticks would be terrified and excited because its an alien like she’s been telling everyone

But then she’d wonder if it’s a trick via a scout or some interdimensional plot

Goes off on 17 different tangents as Cosmo stares and tries to be polite, but is actually afraid

 

Have considered other writing formats

Have tinkered with novels, but shifting gears on story construction is much greater than one might imagine

Been doing comics so long that it’s the default now

Concise and informative language that is emotionless blueprint that is very technical about specific layouts and contexts

Not writing to entertain, but to instruct the art team

The finished product is what illicit’s emotion and interest

Long form narratives are completely different style due to creating artistic vision with words

Dabbled here and there to find voice that is descriptive but not overly so has been really hard

Could probably get into old groove if given plenty of time to sit on it

Younger long form writings weren’t very good, but was more comfortable cadence that had ot shift gears on

Probably could, but don’t have time because lots of things going on

Any story exploring them, Jackal Squad, or just Infinite wouldn’t really go anywhere because know what happens

It’s not like they would change meaningfully, but it’d just be really neat

 

How would completely rewrite Infinite

Blame people asking about him a lot on Sega’s marketing team

If there wasn’t hype going in and the theme song, he would’ve been forgotten by now

He is really lame, abysmal poor mans’ Mephiles

Infinite had Liam O’Brien and he’s brilliant, but you can’t work with nothing

She was a Dark Type character that many things skewed into straight heroic

Was trying to skew her back and that wasn’t received very well by fandom

So tried to make her slightly self-serving but on the side of good

What were early Archie submissions like and did any make it into comic

First, got in because sent unsolicited scripts, which can torpedo chances if you’re not lucky

Did work behind the scenes with a lot of data gathering and organizing cleric work

Was offered lead position while predecessor was given six months of steady inking positon

He decided to leave on his own accord to pursue his own interests

The scripts were nothing related to Other M

Had them live back in the day [on Bumbleking Forum]

One was 12 pager on a fun four team adventure around the hot topic guy Damocles the Elder(?)

Backup story about Geoffrey being kinda shady

Meant to show different story lengths, understood characters, and was inclusive of old material and new direction

Stories that were open ended for continuation and others done in one

That was apparently good enough ot be shown how to do it properly

 

Where is Dr. Baconman is Eggman is busy fighting Sonic

Well, they were working together early on, but things didn’t work out between them

So they hurriedly went separate ways, you might say they had a break fast

He did kinda come between them

He was usually a good reliable foundation, but that crusty exterior eventually rubbed them the wrong way

They tried to butter him up on more than one occasion

Who wins Kyle vs Ian like the Sonic vs Shadow tabletop RPG except

No way spending time figuring out own DnD spread as a Mythic Bard

Depends on whether SEGA wants to acknowledge that

Imagine Rouge gave Ring inhibitor back to Shadow, but continuity doesn’t add up with him having both in the pod

Eggman might’ve just made another one as a super genius though

Guess Sonic still has Chip’s ring stashed away in one of Tails places

Sonic is a very speedy hobo who doesn’t seem to live anywhere

No, World’s Collide was introducing the new continuity and Snively was still a part of that

But also new was being very game centric

Don’t remember if the thought was he had betrayed Eggman in Classic era before going to GUN

It’s probably the only way for it to work timeline wise

Remember there was some discussion on how to render Snively but all that was on cutting room floor

 

Was Fiona being betrayed by her parents something old or new that would come up

Don’t think it was referencing anything previous

Would have to revisit when Sonic and Mighty found her in the Child Labor Camp Story(that’s so weird to say out loud)

Can’t remember if there was implication there to run with or if it was a “what is she doing there” type thing

Really drive home that she is damaged

A lot of her heel turn was built around the implications, but there wasn’t a ton to back it up with

That moment might have been attempting to build on that a little

Don’t readily recall concrete plans to explore what happened with her parents but might find old notes on it

It’s been fifteen years, can only keep up with so much continuity

How does it feel to not be head writer

It is a little bittersweet, but kind of exciting

Like when first got started in old days because there’d been ten years of stuff to build off of in Archie

Didn’t know much about existing plans, so it was exciting to take their ideas and apply to what came before

Instances where someone else contributed were fun because there were fresh new ideas that didn’t know the plans for, but could play with and built off

Actually just finished revising last script for Season 3 arc and rereading Evan’s stories showed where references, build offs, and tie-ins can be

Haven’t had chance to have that fun in a long time and frankly kind of tired of own writing

Knew what was going on beforehand, but paragraph synopsis for approvals are very different from final script

One particular scene in Part 2 or even the entire scenario that couldv’e been very different without Evan providing a very different character to play with

Imagine it’s a breathe of fresh air for others getting something nice and novel for a change

 

Are interested in regain head writer position again or are more or less retired(continued)

That’s up to IDW

It’s okay if they want to swap back again

It’s cool if they continue with Evan’s lead in Season 4

It’s whatever if it’s something else entirely

Just happy to still be involved and get what get

Now if they say “Don’t call us, we’ll call you,” I’ll be sad but can’t really do anything about that

 
How firm is SEGA with spinoff stuff besides SATAM
There is no line,  its kind of squiggle

Sonic the Comic is no good because the way Fleetway handled the individual contribution and ownership rights

That’s why there was nothing else of them in Archie beyond Jon Gray’s loving homage cameos, which apparently pissed off some of the creators

No idea who owns Manga, so can’t guess

Sega seems very keen on not referencing any animated material, though there are some exceptions

Vector x Vanilla hilariously got through, but that’s very SEGA anyway

They’re not Chris or Tanaka

The OVA hat came back in mobile game, so maybe will get to bring it back since like it

If had to guess, Sally might have best change of possibly being salvaged since one super popular character is a lot easier to sell

Still gonna look for any avenue to bring back whole Freedom Fighter crew, different but survive

Especially one from long dead cartoon and recognized from comic with past legal issues

They were just fun cameos, that’s it

Mephiles was added by Tracy on a lark

It might’ve been a suggestion from Aleah or Jon Gray or maybe Tracy

So I know this thread has been completely ignored but in Wednesdays episode Ian made a comment when asked about Lost Hedgehog Tales that I found kinda fascinating. 

He said that if its ever released it'll be "small potatoes" and for the people who were interested in the characters but he wants something bigger for them. I'm trying not to read too much into this but...it's hard not to. It could mean nothing I know but its still a very interesting comment IMHO.

Likely not, as it has been mentioned in the past by Ian himself about the now-very-small chance that IDW can incorporate old storylines from previous series into the comic as well as potential legal factors.

I guess the closest we'll get to the Lost Hedgehog Tales releasing is when Ian says an arc was based on those plans then. Gotta hold out for the infinitesimal chance the post-reboot comics could resume, too.

Or if Ian completely changed the stories in the Lost Hedgehog Tales to fit in the IDW universe, just like he did for the Metal Virus arc.
