So, I was looking back through the threads and I found something interesting.

Apparently, customization was something we all collectively knew about back in June of 2018 when a Famitsu article was released. It was also how we found out about there being a single racing mode.

Yet, when the customization trailer dropped a short while back we all reacted as if it was a new thing that was being revealed. This was most likely because months had gone by without any new info or any new reason to talk about it.

Is there anyone here who actually remembered that customization was something that had already been revealed?

It honestly really surprised me that people had completely forgotten about the customisation aspect. They mentioned so early on that it wound be a robust system, so it sounded very interesting. But SEGA just completely neglected the game so for long, it shouldn't surprise me that it was news to a lot of people.

Apparently a few of you did actually remember than. Shocking, considering how blown away everyone was by it when the trailer dropped, including myself. Looking back through the old thread, I noticed the thing I latched onto the most was the news about their being single player races.

Probably because customization systems intimidate me a bit. There's just so many parts and things to fiddle around with. I look at stuff like the character creator in Forces, the Gummi Ship in Kingdom Hearts, and Super Mario Maker and just know I'm going to never be satisfied with what new thing I end up creating and I'll keep switching things around endlessly. I'd probably end up sticking with the original vehicle designs because of it.

In today's stream Aaron said they're going to be playing TSR in the next stream on 2nd May.

I just had a thought. They're bringing back all those stages from Transformed and all star racing but those are not designed with the team mechanics in mind. Does this mean they will modify the tracks to accommodate the new mechanics ? If so, by how much ? It wouldn't make sense if they don't right ?

The biggest disappointment about TSR is not having a City Escape track. I mean Mario Kart 8 has something very similar to that.

Also I really don't like how we have 3 Planet Wisp tracks, 3 Casino tracks, and 3 Seaside Hill tracks. I know it's done that way so they can reuse assets, but in an ideal world I would've really liked it if each track represented a zone.

It's weird how inconsistent it is. The desert zone seems to have death chamber (sandopolis), sand hill and potentially pumpkin hill. Then you have Planet Wisp where all the tracks are from that zone. At least Rooftop Run seem to have variety with its three tracks. We might get lucky with Seaside Hill and end up with Emerald Coast but I'm not holding my breath.

About the casino zone, I think it's an interesting change that Bingo Party is set in space. We might get a surprise as the last track even if Roulette Road was shown in the latest trailer.

With the planet in the back, the new aesthetic for Bingo Party kind of looks like Tropical Resort could fit in.

It's probably wishful thinking tho.

I'm assuming that's partly because whereas you can do a lot with desert and casino as your baselines, there's only one Planet Wisp and Spagonia.

It seems like they still managed decent variety with Spagonia tho. I'm still hopeful for the third seaside hill track. Neither Whale Lagoon nor Ocean View has a sand beach so the third track must be a beach. It could be emerald coast.

The ice zone has a lot of variety but it's kind of disappointing how none of the tracks are based on zones we already know (or very loosely based).

Also, all of those desert stages are on or near Angel Island. In other words, they’re Echidna territory.

Huh. Interesting.

I haven't actually been paying that much attention to the hard details of this game, particularly the stages. So I don't really know what is or isn't in them beyond what screenshots, brief clips, and comments I happen to see here.

Still, Angel Island(or rather, the ruins left behind by the Echidnas) have a surprising amount of desert motifs to draw from, be it Sandopolis, Regal Ruin, or even Wild Canyon(which isn't on Angel Island to my knowledge, but still), so it arguably falls in place with my point.

The notion that they're sabotaging their own game on purpose is ridiculous. They probably actually believe Denuvo helps them get more sales by stopping pirates. Whether they win more sales from the reduction in pirating or loss more sales from the backlash Denuvo brings is another question entirely. I personally believe Denuvo is crap but worst case scenario I either get it on ps4 or I just buy it anyways cuz they'll probably remove it anyways later on.

We won't have it. Tell SEGA of Europe that you will not buy anymore SEGA titles on Steam until they stop shoehorning Denuvo into them.

Kneel down to the filthy masses and buy it on consoles. 😋

Seriously though, the backlash and removal of the Denuvo is mute, because a handful of weeks after launch, the Denuvo has already served 99% of it purpose. At that point, dedicated crackers would have already figured out the coding and broken through - which of course makes pirated copies available to those whom are hard pressed on doing so. Sega removing Denuvo from its titles post launch isn't some damming indictment of caving to fan pressure, but a cost/benefit analysis. Anti-Piracy tech like this outlives its value post launch window. Once you move out of that, they don't stand to loose as much by ditching it. They got what they wanted out of it, and get to salvage a tiny bit of face by making a concession.

Why you would call a company attempting to protect their stuff from theft as "unnecessary" sounds a bit short-sighted. Denuvo might be a tired and poor way to do it, but they have every right to put in a little insurance for their bottom line.

Because it makes the product run like shit and sometimes breaks it

I think that depends more on its implementation in those cases. It was poorly and hastily added to Sonic Mania and caused performance issues and required a day one patch to allow mostly offline play for example. It only got worse when a new version was used with the Plus update. I don't recall hearing much of anything about other Sega games that used it but those games weren't held back just to slap it in there. We knew for sure Forces had it months before release, for example.

The bigger issue with DRM like Denuvo is the lack of ownership in the long term. There are no end of life plans for when those servers close and you're locked out of a product you legally paid for because of the compulsory online checks. Now that won't happen for a long time (probably), but it does become a concern from a preservation standpoint and it's why people don't want it.

I think the bottom part of sentiment is a real issue and a problem I have with denuvo. But I often run into issues not just in sega games but in games in general with anti pirating software. Most recently Devil May Cry 5 who's PC version comes with anti pirating software built in , that just makes the game run worse and load slower. And it was gotten around in like two hours by someone finding out you could download a exe file with all the stuff in it.

While there are cases where its implemented fine, its often not and broken in such amount of time it sort of makes the entire point of the software useless. You have just screwed over the consumer for no tangible gain here. Personal opinion : The people who want to pirate whatever it is, are going to do it , it doesn't matter how many walls you put in front of it, they are going to do it. They didn't intend to buy your game or product in the first place and while I don't have the numbers off hand I do think there are actual studies to support this notion.

The best form of anti pirating is making your game good and easy to purchase.

I don't know if anyone else saw those but I found not one but 4 giant posters at my local Gamestop about this game. Apparently Sega paid Gamestop everywhere to help promote the game in a big way. Bravo Sega!

When did TSR get delayed compared to CTR's release date being announced?

I think it was delayed around a month or two before.

I'm still seeing ads for Forces and Mania at Gamestop. So, I guess they've got Gamestop on lockdown. So... there's that.

I really want that Gamestop exclusive Tails statue too. I can afford it but I can't summon the strength to part with 50 bucks for it.

Ah. Well damn.

What's the link tho ? I do think CTR is bad news for sales of the game but who knows ? If the game reviews well enough, the word of mouth might help it. It needs more marketing outside of gamestop.

How relevant is Gamestop nowadays anyways ?

Do it. Worth Every penny. I think the Tails is even better than the Sonic one actually.

That new video shows off a couple of stages we haven't seen before. They all look great. Lots of stage hazard, the terrain is varied (there are so many slopes its almost crazy) and the biomes continue to impress with their uniqueness.

Hot air balloons aside, you wouldn't even be able to tell that stage took place in Rooftop Run. They can reuse assets all they want if their going to get that creative with it.
