So the game has some foreshadowing regarding Tails' ingenuity as well! He boasts about how he could turn the mundane into the cleverly functional.

 

This is really awesome.

 

They don't make it any subtle, even- you're treated first to a soundclip of the old "toothpaste and a toothpick" phrase you liked so much, then Tails does his thing and comments "didn't even need toothpaste this time!"

I think this level in particular fits the current mood perfectly.

If Sonic is referencing his failure as being when he kicked the conch flying then hooray! Sonic's actually feeling guilt and culpability for what he did and it's strengthening his resolve.

Act 2 so far has been fully on-rails. Doesn't seem likely to deviate soon.
