These are all just meant to be goofy fun and do not necessarily represent the actual personalities of the characters nor the tone of the fictions they come from!  I made these last week, they were just quickies for a bit of fun, half an hour each, but damnit I just couldn’t think of cute Valentines card puns for my own characters but I could for other people’s for some reason.  So everyone gets puns and lingerie, the only important parts of Valentines Day.  Well… no lingerie for Webbie coz she isn’t the clothes wearing sort, but she at least gets boobsquish.

Obviously you’d probably only get these jokes if you’re familiar with the characters, and since they’re all OCs, no-one looking at this is likely to know all of them - thus to spoil the magic:

Renee seemingly has innately good luck as a power of hers, Webbie is a spider monster girl, Boque is seen as… less than smart by her peers, Mrs L’s L actually stands for a surname most people can’t spell/pronounce, Brie’s sidekick/weapon buddy there is of course called Forq, Maui is a cyborg, Liz is a pretty established evil villian, and Death - well this was pretty much just a pun on her name lol.

(Alternate ideas for captions included trying to reference the “Usted es los dumbass” fiasco with Boque (with “dumbstruck” instead but I don’t know the first thing about Spanish to rephrase it), “Do you want to be my Mr L?” for Mrs L but then I thought no these are modern times who am I to assume her sexuality nor the gender of the audience, and “I LOVE YOU!!!” for Maui, which would probably be in character for her (and she would say this to any of her friends lol) but I didn’t see why she should get special in-character treatment when everyone else got puns).

Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES was my first ever video game, and I’m long overdue on giving it some appreciative art.  Whether you grew up with the NES or SNES version, I decided to do a version for everyone to enjoy!

Haha I guess throwing lives and health at the player doesn't make some levels that much easier.  I remember loving all the new flair and items to use but being disappointed that almost all the new content served to make a game I'd already played to death even easier.  Aside from Robobirdo who was nice and challenging (though awkwardly complex alongside the original bosses).

Humanised Sonic Boom Amy.  Posted this in statuses the other day but needed to wait due to the double-posting rule.  Over on tumblr this is my first piece to get over 100 notes, I'm super proud of that (I'm sure the current buzz around Boom helps, I should draw topical fanart more often lol).

Some Collabs - these were actually published before the Valentines Day and Mario 2 art, but wanted to give those their own posts.

 

 

It was my late bff Audi's birthday on the 12th, she would've been 22.  Crazy to think a whole year has passed since last year's significantly more elaborate original piece I drew in her memory.

I’ve decided I’m going to use birthdays as an excuse to finish collabs we started but never finished or colour art she drew me.  It’s just another little way I want to keep her memory alive via her art.

This was a collab we were working on but ended up being procrastinated into oblivion.  She drew the original sketch in December 2010 (bottom left image), and I did as far as the base colour by July 2011 (bottom right image), according to my file properties.  Since then it sat gathering dust until the 11th this month when I did the shading.  I don’t think there was any particular story behind this, we were always just drawing silly Left 4 Dead pictures and I think this was just one of her more elaborate ones.  Our silly L4D arts usually reflected our intentionally ridiculous headcanons, but here it was more representing our idiotic playing style I think.

(The only part that possibly needs explaining to those who weren’t in our friendship group: The mysterious Bill face watching over us all was a gmod-created spray image we used in the game and something that would entertain us endlessly by spraying it on walls in hilarious places.  It came from our gmod recreation of this art).

Of course, you may have already seen this in Inferno's topic...  Secret collab project we did back and forth over the last few weeks.  We shared sketch, lineart, colouring and background duties, our different styles should make it clear who did what, but I think it still all came together super nicely in the end.  And hey we both have cute redhead girls who wield weapons with personality so this was a natural first collab subject.

Here’s the process that went into making my most recent art, an imagining of World 5-1 from Super Mario Bros. 2, in both 8-bit and 16-bit. Unfortunately this piece had such a ridiculous amount of layers that I had to end the recording early to free up some memory, but all that’s missing is various last minute tweaks to lighting/colouring, and layering stuff up and adding blur effects to the close/distant scenery etc.

As you can see, I mapped out a top-down view of how I imagined the platforms might be laid out in a 3D space, imagining a waterfall on both sides, then transformed it into a flat floor plan stretching into the distance to act as a guide. After the scenery is planned out, you can also enjoy watching me struggle endlessly with Luigi’s legs and Peach’s hair.

Just for some extra trivia - I deliberately used solid blue shadows on the NES version to evoke the blue outlines of the sprites on black background areas. For the SNES version, I used correctly coloured shadows since those sprites were more detailed. My only regret with this piece is I very much worked on the background and foreground as seperate elements, and it bothers me that some key bits of the scenery, such as the Trouter we have the best view of, and one of the rolling logs, is hidden behind our heroes. The Trouters technically make no sense here, but I dunno, in a 3D game perhaps they jump from one side of the waterfall to the other in a sequence that would still let you jump from one to the next. It was important to me to not show water down below - this cave felt huge to me as a kid, where my imagination filled in the blanks of old simpler graphics, and I wanted to capture that feeling here.

I had a ref photo in my fashion folder of a girl wearing short shorts with suspender-style lingerie thighhighs (photo was cropped at the stomach so that was all there was of it) and thought I'd try to extend the concept of regular but revealing clothes doing nothing to hide the presence of classic lingerie worn underneath.  Thanks to Mollfie who confirmed that in my initial lineart her tiny cropped t-shirt looked dumb and came up with the idea of a reverse half-sheer half-opaque top where the sheer part is the lower half rather than the upper.

I didn't dwell on this too long, it was a sort of semi-quickie overall, but it feels like my ratio of OCs to fanart has shifted too much to the latter lately so wanted to squeeze out some more of my original characters.

(Kay being a NSFW character normally there'd be nude versions of this but I just haven't felt inspired porn-wise lately so no such luck, I didn't even construct it to provide a lingerie-only version - apologies to my secret pervy fans).

Yeah I did.  As I was drawing it and listening to the song just... something came over me and I couldn't imagine it as anything other than that sort of wibbly-wobbly looking animated style so I went for it.  I wanted the picture to look "alive".  She blinks too on my deviantART upload, but that increased the file size to 5mb so it was impractical for my uploads elsewhere (tumblr only allows up to 1mb for gifs).

 

It's very easy to make the effect, just time-consuming.  I basically just drew and coloured the picture three times over, tracing over the previous one to make sure it was close but not exactly the same.  The shading and background are the same on all three frames, but I applied a randomised noise filter (that TV static sort of effect) to the shading and background layers so they too would be different in each frame and keep the whole image looking animated.

It wasn't something I was going for but I totally know what you mean and as she emerged like that on the page I sorta rolled with it. I think I gave her a slightly smaller head than usual, and I know I made her features take up slightly less space on her head than usual (her giant eyes were just looking weird to me). Coupled with the fact that I gave her a poofy hair-do here probably just adds to the above lol.

Haha yep, with the exception of the white vest under her sleeveless top (added to emulate the Tails-esque fluff she had poking out the top in fox form) her outfit is 100% unchanged from her fancharacter form. I'd like to maybe draw her again sometime with a more toned down outfit with slightly more co-ordinated colours (and definitely lose the shiny BRIGHT pink gloves if not the thighhighs as well lol) so she might look like an actual normal human character that I might even be able to use in something.

To be the main or secondary character of an upcoming extra Phantasm Dyad episode.  Haven’t pinned her down yet story-wise and as such everything is subject to change but I’m happy with this visual design.

 

Initial Concept in the spoiler:

 

She kinda looks cuter in the comic style and her body-shape came out better when I was drawing loosely, but such is the struggles of proper lineart vs sketchy lineart.  I’m kind of going for a slightly curvy pear shape body with her.  A little pudgy like Venus but more realistic day-to-day normal people squidge than holy moly hourglass curvy bombshell like Venus is.

The sketches at the top were just me making sure I didn’t make the same mistake as several past characters by designing a fringe that only looks okay from one angle.
