longest you've spent on a stage?

I remember that Wild Canyon took me over 20 minutes the first time I played it. It didn't help that I didn't know how the radar worked.

I also got hopelessly stuck on the Prison Island hero mission in Shadow and rage quit after 30 minutes. I wanted to kill Charmy so bad after that.

Eggmanland (HD)- Yeah, pretty much everyone else in this topic has gone over this numerous times. It took me about 40 minutes on my first run, and I spent even more time perfecting my strategy throughout the stage to do the hot dog runs.

Aquatic Mine- Meteor Herd seems to be mentioned a lot in this topic, but for some reason, I don't recall having too much trouble with it. The stage that sticks out in my mind from my first run through on the Dreamcast back in 2001 was Aquatic Mine, which took me about 15-20 minutes.

The Doom- Running aimlessly around the Ark looking for those wounded GUN soldiers was a massive pain. Don't remember how long it took me on my first try, but I think it might have been about an hour.

Carnival Night- The infamous barrel was the cause of a few Time Overs for me until I eventually realised what I was supposed to do.

Mystic Ruins Jungle Maze- Absolutely hated this when I first played SA1. Not sure if I ever spent THAT much time on it (at least, compared to the other levels on this list), but it definetly sticks out in my mind.

Big's Twinkle Park. One day I was DETERMINED to get the fish for the A Emblem since that's the only emblem in SADX I hadn't gotten simply since I can never find a fish as big as the requirement. I did the catch and release method, and ended up staying there over four hours. Worst part: I didn't even catch the freaking fish.

Fuck Big's Twinkle Park A Emblem.

Eggmanland...even with the lives littered throughout the stage I got soooo many gameovers here. I must have spent literally hours here because there were times I would get about 30 miniytes into the stage and Gameover.

The Sonic portion of the level was fine, in my opinion. It honestly didn't give me much trouble. The werehog is really what makes the stage impossible. I figured out you could run past most of the enemies, so most of the brawls weren't as bad as some other stages. No, what fucked me over here was the Werehogs shitty platforminibv segments. So. Many. Bottomless/Lava-filled. Pits.

The Doom (shadow the hedgehog)- Took me over 15 damn minutes to beat the hero mission. And the fact that I kept getting lost doesn't help.

Mystic Mansion- Took me about 11 minutes to finish Team Chaotix's mission.

Classic Planet Wisp- dragged on for way to long

Sandopolis act 2- damn ghosts

Meteor Herd- Took me about 17 minutes to get through this.

Knuckles' pyramid level in sa2 (can't remember the name)- Took me an hour[\b] to beat this level.

Eggmanland- No comment.

We've all said EggmanLand. Mines was 45 minutes. Not that bad when you consider the horror of the level.

The first time I ever played Meteor Herd it took me an hour. I was so stuck trying to find my last emerald.

I expected the Werehog levels to be long, so I don't really remember how long it took me. I remember Spagonia Night being 25 minutes but that's not too bad.

Eggmanland and the adventure fields mentioned by Blue Blood stand out in my memory.

Eggmanland was better than SA2's hunting stages, specifically Meteor Herd (the rest were a pile o' shit too) because you were actually doing something. Yes, there were a lot of bottomless pits, and extremely challenging balacing sections, but at least you had an objective, an obstacle to overcome, some platforming to do.

Meteor Herd, was gliding around pointlessly around a enormous, cavernous room waiting for the radar to respond and to guide to the emerald shard it wanted you to find; rather than the nearest one (which makes sense and existed in the vastly superior predecessor).

I disagree. Meteor Herd didn't cause me much trouble. I enjoyed the way Knuckles controlled, in addition to the visuals, making exploring the level pretty fun. Meanwhile being forced to play as that damn Werehog at a snail's pace, on and off, and in a stupidly long and tiresome level like Eggmanland, felt like a genuine waste of life. Having said that, I did find SA2's Mad Space infuriating at times.

Casino Park in Sonic Heroes. I get stuck on those pinball boards. One time I was there for almost as hour. :S

The two main ones for me were Meteor Herd and Mad Space, for all the reasons mentioned before. Meteor Herd was 30 minutes, Mad Space about 20.

Shadow's Maria levels were also stretched out to 15-20 minutes, but at least it felt like you were doing something.

Never bothered with Unleashed, so I don't know the...experience that is Eggmanland.

The doom. I don't know how I forgot that terrible stage. Sega really fucked us all up with that one. And then they expected us to A rank it? Yeah right. I think I spent 40-hour on that stage when doing the hero mission. I'm pretty sure it was an hour. Either way I was very close to rage quiting until I found that guard. And since that day, I never turned back. (see what I did?)

OH GOOD LORD, THE DOOM! WHY!? WHY DID YOU MAKE ME REMEMBER THAT STAGE?!

I spent 90 minutes on that level the first time I played! 90 minutes! 90 minutes I will never have back!

Totally agree with you. Fuck every extra mission with them where you have to collect shit, I always end up spending like 30 minutes looking for the last object.

About 20 or so minutes in some Sonic Heroes stage. Probably Bullet Station or Rail Canyon.

The longest I've spent on a stage that isn't rage inducing is Sky Sanctuary for Sonic3&K and Sonic Generations is because of the scenery and soundtrack. I've never felt so happy when I played through those areas the first time and it still makes me smile no matter the number of playthroughs. Onto the longest time in a rage inducing stage is all the Space Colony Ark stages (i.e. The Doom) in Shadow the Hedgehog which took me about 45-60 minutes on normal mode trying to find the Scientists, Artificial Chaos, and Soldiers. It still makes me shudder in memory whenever it's brought up. sad.png

Eggmanland is probably the longest I've spent on it's an epic Final stage but it's hard as hell both daytime and night time sections are put to the EXTREME ph34r.png I kept dying and dying, falling into lava and you know the rest. Meteor Herd is another stage I've spent a long time on mainly just running and searching for emerald shards above it was annoying but I promise you DRILL DIVE right at the top of the stage and you shall REGRET NOTHING! gettin a E rank.. it's worth it ;)

I almost forgot MAD SPACE and Final Chase...I spent so long on those stages mainly because those gravity pillars, artificial chaos and those stupid monitors Gaah!

a few others which follow

Casinopolis - Mainly playing in the Pinball machine and just travelling with Nights I spent so long on the stage it made me smile :)

Shadow TH (Ark Stages) - I hate all the ark stages (Except Space Gadget) it just took ages looking for research experiments then teleporting back to find others you missed it gets annoying at times :/ I hated THE DOOM ._. I hated looking for Soliders, REs and Scientists

SH - Bingo Highway/CP/Final Fortress - I sucked on those stages but for BH(DarK) a lot of pits I kept falling wacko.png

I would always get a Time Over in Carnival Night Zone Act 2 due to that dumb barrel. >.> I didn't know the proper way of finishing the level until I joined Sonic Retro back in late 2008. :V I made it through once because I had my friend control Tails and he kept jumping on the barrel until the gap was big enough for Sonic to fit through. xD

Oh, actually I will say before I unlocked Super Sonic I quite frequently got Time Overs on Launch Base Act 2. That triple boss action, combined with the cut-scene halfway through really eats quite a few minutes. Death sentence if you took over 6 or 7 minutes getting there.

Cannon's Core

mainly because I played it when I was 9 and was a total noob at that game. Friggin hated Knuckles and Rouge's parts though.
