Because it makes sense. People want, they make, its an industry like any other.

Back in the day there were platformers, then there were Action/Adventures and now its FPS/war-games. The industry follows the trends set by its customer base.

I know that. I'm not bashing genres. I'm saying why are the most advanced engines using the shittest environments.

Take a look at Halo, it's a war shooter that isn't the most technically advanced in terms of power, yet it's still filled with colour and good visual design.
