  • Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Becomes a High-Speed Sonic Experience With These Mods

Character skins and custom maps of old-school Sonic stages!

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a Jet Set Radio-inspired action game created by Team Reptile that released in August 2023, but it didn't take long for SEGA fans to shape it into a high-speed Sonic the Hedgehog experience. A newly-launched mod introduces classic character skins of the blue blur and friends, while players can now enjoy skating through custom maps of Emerald Coast, Grand Metropolis and Metal City.

Starting with the most recent addition to the Bomb Rush Cyberfunk mod scene, this impressive package - titled 'SEGA SONIC CYBERFUNK' - was created by 'Zaobro4959' and allows you to blast around New Amsterdam with a range of Sonic character skins as playable characters.

The mod contains Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Metal Sonic models with a range of skins to choose from: default; a 'Mega Drive' 16-bit palette; a 'Saturn' look that mimics Yuji Uekawa's Sonic Jam; a 'Modern-era' style that takes the characters up to present day; and a special 'red flashing' Powered Up mode exclusively for Metal Sonic.

You can download the mod via the Game Banana website here.

Meanwhile, if you want to skate through some familiar 2000-era Sonic stages, then you're in luck because as recently as a few weeks ago, custom maps have been introduced to the Bomb Rush Cyberfunk game. And as you'd expect, the floodgates have opened for modders to create some fantastic reproductions of Sonic stages of yesteryear.

A lot of these maps can be found on the Thunderstore website, but a video from TikTok user 'gecko0031' highlights the cream of the crop - a skate-tastic version of Emerald Coast from Sonic Adventure, complete with loop-de-loops, a wall-riding port of Sonic Heroes' Grand Metropolis and the complete Metal City circuit from Sonic Riders.

I have to say that I didn't have the time to really engage in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk until now, but these mods are tempting me to give the game a try! Are you playing Bomb Rush Cyberfunk? What are your thoughts on these retro remakes? Let us know in the comments section below!

If anyone is still sleeping on Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, know that it's good enough that I decided to get the game twice. These mods will only make it better!
