Obviously since it's been a couple months since this topic has been active, we can see that in some ways the status updates have settled down as a whole. Of course in these times of lulls, it's important that we don't become too lax and start letting bad habits seep back in slowly, and start to drag down the feature as a whole.

 

There's been a concern in the staff team about a seemingly growing number of status updates crossing a line, that while may be somewhat hazy and not concretely spelled out, still seems to violate some of our standards for content we want here.

 

Some generalized premises of specific updates I can think of in my head were an instance referring to porn containing both incest and pedophilia, a link to comic of a general sexual nature, and multiple updates about the pornography and masturbatory habits of members.

 

Now I get the fact that when spelled out here in terms like these, it may overstate the context of the original updates, whether they were posted in disgust or in a more comedic manor. Despite this, the basic point still stands, that these statuses are starting to cross a line with what we want posted on the forum.

 

We have to keep in mind that the statuses are displayed right on the forum's main page, which is the first thing that anyone visiting this forum is going to be presented with. While like I said things at this moment are not especially bad, and these instances both somewhat minor and fleeting, we would like to cut back on these statuses and keep things from progressing further.

 

So from now on, if a staff member thinks that your status is crossing a line of appropriateness for the forums, we are going to start trying to crack down on locking them and hopefully establishing a bit more a clear line of what we would like to keep off the updates.

Yeah Gotcha, Not like I made those statuses (well no, truthfully I did make 1 but its gone now, I personally got a bad taste about it afterwards. I'm excessive and an ass on there, but not crude.) but I won't pertisipate in them any longer.

Other then the porn statuses what else is getting on your guys' nerves?

Quick question though.

TV Tropes are sure popular yes? But now with more to the added updates so we can't talk about porn, are we still allowed to talk about tropes like Scenery porn? I mean it has an entire index called "Its not porn, its an index". So I was wondering if its alright if we can about those tropes.

I'm probably asking a dumb question though.

Goku, number refers to the number of status updates, not the number of differentiated concerns we have about them.

 

And it's not a ban on the word porn, it's a notice on keeping the content of the updates above a certain threshold....which hopefully is some common sense, and some help along the way from mods just locking/deleting things if they're not ok.

I personally felt uncomfortable with the more pervy status updates as well. As Pelly put it, it crossed the line with some.

Thanks for bringing this up.  I didn't think the staff was so very keen on some of the statuses I've seen, so I thought it was a little weird they went without repercussions aside from the obvious one that sort of started the whole trend.  I didn't want to PM anyone about it though, because I didn't know how to word it and didn't want anyone to be offended.

 

I don't mind a "pervy" status here and there as long as doesn't go blatantly too far, but I have noticed some really... cumbersome statuses over the past few weeks.

I really tried to get into status updates, but I guess it's not for me. And no, I don't do perverted updates.

 

If someone can tell me why status updates are better than just posting, I would appreciate it, but it sounds like it's more trouble than it is worth.
