Anyone out there with shameful Sonic-related secrets?

I haven't completed a SINGLE main series Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 (Except Colours and Shadow). Either I (as a kid) struggled with the conditions to unlock Super Sonic and never got back round to it (Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed), found the level before too hard to be worth spending my time on (Sonic 06) or found the actual final stage too difficult (Sonic Generations, why I struggle with that but not beating Mega Man 2 without a single hit, I'll never know). So I just watch the final scenes on YouTube.

 

Ah, I'm that way with Zelda since Ocarina of Time. I buy each game but never get too far... I didn't even beat Skyward Sword's first boss.

 

Some games just are that way I guess. I never beat any of the mobile Sonic games, except Rivals 2...

 

I like to play Genre Roulette with Sonic and make crossovers that don't belong. Like Sonic characters in the Sims of Sonic-themed strategy games. I do it all the time and it's quite sad.

 

I recall those silly rumors about Shadow replacing Sonic as Sega's mascot as well.  I should have known better than to believe them, but I was actually quite worried that they would be true.  I didn't, and still don't, even hate Shadow; I just didn't want to see Sonic become as so degraded.

 

That'd be one hell of a reversal though. One-upped by a character YOU created. Not even Alex Kidd was that horribly shamed.

 

Fortunately Sega decided against it. Sonic may be a bit of a Gary Stu at times but at least he has a positive feel to him.

While making up my own level and boss choices for Generations that I'm still thinking about because there's so many good ones (I'll post it eventually, once I can find the topic), I randomly decided to make my own explanation about the Time Eater's origin, as well as why some bosses in my hypothetical version include other main villains like Black Doom and Erazor. Unfortunately, this boiled down to the somewhat common theory of it being none other than Mephiles, and I tried to explain why Iblis and Mephiles have unsubtle names (in short, it's the only names they've known or heard since they were never meant to exist seperately, and it's not like Iblis could object anyway) as well as retcon the whole Solaris backstory - and Mephiles as a whole - into being more sympathetic (almost mirroring Chaos... hey, Iblis was already as much a Chaos clone, might as well go the whole way) whilst - true to my fanboyism - making the Robotniks come off as even bigger dicks upon mechanizing Mephiles (even though, of course, they wouldn't know who Mephiles was), or as they named their new creation, "the Time Eater". The idea was that Mephiles escaped being wiped out at the last minute and retreated to outer space, and during that time his insanity (Freudian Excuse for Solaris going apeshit due to scientific experiments, as well as explaining why Mephiles' planning skills were so idiotic baffling) managed to cure itself, thus giving him time to reflect on all the horrible things he did when he was a Dan Green-voiced hedgehog thing, before eventually being discovered by Modern Robotnik years later after Colours (Mephiles had tried to attack him since he reminded him of the Soleanna scientists all those years ago, but Robotnik was crazy prepared this time). There was even a twist in that before the Sonics and Tailses find out that the Robotniks are the real villains and assume that the villain must be this "Mephiles" they keep hearing about, the obligatory helper character turns out to be Mephiles, as a Tikal-esque orb and wanting to atone for his sins when he was insane, disgraced as a sun god and all that. There was even an awkward and somewhat comical apology for killing Sonic back then.

 

Eventually I realised this was silly since it would be stupid to remind everyone of 06 over all the other games, and I figured Mephiles fans probably wouldn't like me pulling a Discord on him, as well as the slightly important factor of Iblis/Mephiles/Solaris not existing being taken into account. Then again, we still had Crisis City full of Iblis minions and Blaze's memories and Silver, but I'm easy to handwave stuff like that since I'm having too much fun with the game anyway.

I actually remember some really weird plot idea I had when I was younger. It involved Mephiles escaping destruction as well. He would do it by planting some essence of himself BEFORE Solaris' creation, so that even if Solaris was wiped out, he would still exist. Yes, that has its logical paradoxes, but time travel is generally crap to begin with. It goes one step further: I imagined he would take Sonic's form this time, starting off all deep and Dan Green-esque but then slowly turning to a Sonicy voice as he shifted into a Scourge lookalike.

 

Yes it was some masterful plan to combine the Archie and Sega continuities. I'll go hide in my shed now.

You mean like how Mario became the mascot for Nintendo despite originating from the Donkey Kong series? ;P

 

(Granted, that's a bit different since he was the player character in the first Donkey Kong game, so it still makes sense in the long run.)

Not sure it this is one but. I actually like Sonic 3D Blast.  Believe me, I can understand its reception but when I played it I did enjoy it overall.

Every fan shows their love for the franchise in some way or another. Some buy merchandise, others come up with plans for their own games. Lord knows I've brainstormed a handful of plots in my head more than once. It's just taking advantage of your natural imagination.

Lol, to tell you the truth, at the time I was interested in creating a title that wouldn't be as subject to criticism. Since then I've come to the realization that just nearly everything in life will be negitively judged by someone, and that's alright in my opinion.

Reminds me of how I once created a character named Darknite the Hedgehog.  He was Shadow's brother and could easily whoop one's ass with his Chaos abilities. He actually replaced Eggman as the main antagonist and quickly became Sonic's rival as much as enemy.

 

Oh. He also had the power to get pregnant if memory serves.

Indeed. I realised that as wonderful as the idea of an original character being pregnant with Tails was, it was kind of... what's the word for it... what?

Ahhh, this topic. I remember seeing this when I was a guest back mid-last year and quite frankly I was glad I wasn't the only weird Sonic fan.

So yup, I've got some of my own Sonic-relate shames. Here we go.

 

• I would rather play Sonic 4 over Sonic 3&K. I just really dislike every aspect of 3&K... apart from Sandopolis. I LOVE Sandopolis. I know, I'm weird.
• Like Twilight, nearly every single song my iPhone is a Sonic-relate tune. To be honest, it nearly takes up the whole space on my phone.
• I kinda enjoy Shadow the Hedgehog. I can definitely see why people dislike it, but there are those moments where I actually utter to myself "Y'know... this really isn't too bad."
• I'd rather play the Unleashed night-time acts over the 20-second Colours acts. At least the Werehog stages have at least a tiny little bit of flavor to them.
• And last but not least... I'm gonna get this off my chest after seeing it a lot in this topic. I find Amy kinda hot. Like, cute-hot. Don't get the wrong idea from this, I'm not a furry, I'd never do that over Sonic porn, there's just something to Amy that makes her kinda attractive to me. Can't put my finger on where though. *sigh* I'm gonna regret admitting that.

No really, I am truly ashamed that I ever shipped that. Truly. It was back in a time when I wasn't as receptive to bad, cringeworthy writing and such and didn't hold as much as an appreciation for characters. The game that started of my appreciation for characterization and stories in Sonic games was SatSR which released after '06, so I didn't apply the standards I hold now for such aspects when '06 released and presented me with it's narmtastic rubbish.

 

Yes. I'm guilty of writing crappy Sonic fanfics. Been some years now. No I'm not linking to them. They're an old shame.

 

I also look back on my old news reports on this very website in the archives during the time I was a TSS Staffer. I don't hold many of them in any real regard at all.

Well, in terms of any recent shames... there's the fact that I'm writing a fanfic as of now. Nothing much, just a Sonic & Tails adventure inside a Crocodile Isle-esque multi-tiered Robotnik fortress, but... argh, I don't expect it'll sell that well with most.

 

And when the time comes that I finally post it against all my fears... Well, at least people will be able to laugh at it.

- My toothbrush is white with BLUE accents;

- My 3DS was the teal one, and when the XL came out, I traded it for the BLUE one;

- I wanted the BLUE PSP that came as part of a sports bundle (never happened);

- My backpack is black AND BLUE;

- I want to buy a BLUE car someday;

- Even the binder that I take to college with is BLUE;

 

When trying something new, I look for the BLUEST option (cocktails, clothes, etc...)

• I've never got all the Chaos Emeralds in the classic games without using save states.
• I loved Sonic Underground as a young child, to the point where I would sing along to the songs.
• Sometimes I run like Sonic (arms behind back) when I'm going through my house. (Hey, it looks cool )
• As other people have already stated, the music on my phone is mostly Sonic OST's.
• On numerous occassions when I'm out with my friends at an amusement park or something, I always try to win a Sonic plushie from them UFO grabber machine things, to the expense of my friends laughing their arses off at me.

There's probably a lot more, but it's all I can think of now.

-I have a Sonic wallet that I use everyday

-Said wallet also has Sonic phone charms hanging off it
