Fallout New Vegas

So last year the dudes behind Fallout announced that Mothership Zeta would be the final expansion pack for Fallout 3 and that all focus would be behind Fallout 4, Fallout MMO, and quietly there was a mention of Fallout Vegas.

Fallout 4 is... god knows...

Fallout MMO... has that ever been a serious thing.

And Fallout Vegas had a lot of talk... and then nothing. Then something came out that it might be cancelled due to a legal problem...

Suddenly.... last week I think it was Namco said they were distributing it in the west... suddenly it looked alive... today... we got a teaser trailer.

Click to set the world on fire again

This isn't a direct sequel to Fallout 3, so in terms of continuity, there won't be much. But because it's set in Vegas during a 50's era, you can bet that there will be a lot of very nasty people there, this was before it became a tourist friendly kind of place, crime, corruption, sex, gangsters, you name it.

Trailer doesn't give much away other than there will be new robots, and it looks like Vegas didn't get hit much, or it's been very quickly rebuilt, hence the strange logo and all the lights.

Oh and it's on the Xbox 360 PS3, and PC.

Will it contain as many bugs as the last Fallout 3 and expansion packs.... OF COURSE IT WILL!

Have to list them like that because of that other sites stupid method of uploading junk.

So what do they show... well in case they get taken down. It looks like you start off in a place called Vault 23

It's set 3 years after Fallout 3 and should be considered an extension of Fallout 3, not a new revamp game.... so it'll look and play quite similar to Fallout 3.

Theres a new difficulty mode called Hardcore. It's basically the hardest mode from Fallout 3, only the player will suffer from dehydration if he doesn't drink enough water during the game.

VATS is back, as are Super Mutants.

One of the more interesting notes is that unlike Fallout 3, you're actions this time really will have lasting consequences, you'll notice changes in the environment (I bet this doesn't reach final cut) and by the end of the game you'll see how you've shaped the world through your actions good or evil.

The rest is story and slightly spoiler so I'll leave it to you if you decide to go looking.

I'm pretty happy Obsidian's doing this one. They strike me as a team that can bring the classic Fallout vibe back to the series (which isn't to say Bethesda made anything short of a great game with Fallout 3). And Geckos are back? That's just awesome. I hope the Gecko Skinning perk is brought back too.

Oblivion With Guns 2?!

In all seriousness though; I'm excited to see another, and for a while now I've been wanting to start a new file in Fallout 3. The gun-play could use some improvement though, and the obvious glitches need ironing out(despite many of them being hilarious).

And I hope Bethesda gets to work on Elder Scrolls 5 sometime in the future.

I think that my favourite bug in Fallout 3... correction... my two favourite bugs from Fallout 3 would be the following.

* Once I went to the ship and a Braham caravan spawned on the flight deck... because they have a route to follow the cow thing decided it would walk off the end of the flight deck, only to get stuck just on the edge.

So I decided to take some photos of it.

Mad cow 1

Mad cow 2

mad cow 3

* The second bug which was my all time favourite, was during the Big trouble in Big Town quest I picked the robots option at the end... low and behold... the robots vanish from the rubbish yard... making the quest impossible to complete... So later in the game I'm wandering the wasteland when all of a sudden.... a protection falls from the sky!

I've had problems with this happening to NPCs that are supposed to follow me. I forget the particular mission, but it involves the player and some random woman infiltrating a robot-infested building. She needed to examine a room or computer or something along the way(memory's a bit fuzzy on this one), and when she was done with it, she tried to leave the room by means of the DESK, instead of the DOOR. She was just walking against it, and I tried absolutely everything I could to get her to stop, but it was hopeless. I was unprepared for the mission anyway, and decided to reload from an earlier save point, but I didn't have one from before I accepted the mission, so if I had wanted to stock-up on supplies before retrying, she would have gone in without me.

So I did what anyone else would have done; left her to rot. I raged so hard.

To me, the funnier ones involve NPCs killing themselves, which they're quite good at thanks to their inability to navigate the terrain. I actually used a console command that stopped Dogmeat from getting killed just because he would keep hurting himself walking down inclines.

On an unrelated note though, is there any other way to get lockpicks/hairpins besides randomly looking in chests and dumpsters? It seems that if you're reckless, the game just kind of runs out of them- even the salesmen that have them don't seem to ever resupply their stuff. They just hold whatever I've used to barter with them FOREVER.

We have a collectors edition.

falloutce511.jpg

This toot contains a set of seven casino chips representing casinos from the game, a special "Lucky 38 platinum chip," a deck of cards with New Vegas character imagery, a making of DVD and a hardcover graphic novel entitled, "All Roads."

And it all comes in a box. Yes a box. A big big box. A box that is cardboard. And is a box.

Gamespot lists it as being $79.99 on PS3 and Xbox, and $69.99 on PC. No word yet if there will be any other special editions, since the last game had several.

So a new trailer has been released, it shows a lot of gameplay footage. It's doesn't look very different to Fallout 3 if you ask me. Everything looks the same, annimations, weapons (they're different, but they seem to do the same things).

See what you think.
