Welcome to the weekend! Time for another Sonic Game Challenge! Let's do something a little ridiculous.

  

First-time participants will be eligible for the Blue badge above. If this is your second week taking part, you'll get a Bronze badge for playing today. If you've taken part in all three weeks including this one, you'll be in for a Silver badge.

Too Many Rings

Earn 999 Rings in Sonic Forces. It is possible, trust us. You're just going to need the use of the Avatar character and a decent enough build in order to do it. Take a screenshot at any time in the stage after maxxing out your Ring counter and post it here for all to see!

I'm off to find my PS4 and get this done. You have until the end of the month to complete the task!

I don't suppose there's any way we could be allowed to get 999 rings in a different Sonic game? Does it have to be Forces? 

I really liked how the secret passage challenge gave us a little leeway to choose which game we used, and I feel like there are some really creative (but still challenging) ways to get 999 rings in other games. Why, I think it'd be a broader celebration of Sonic to see how different fans achieve this challenge across different eras of the series! 

However, if it's set in stone and can't be changed, I'll respect that and will see what I can do. Maybe I can see if a friend has the game and just borrow it for a bit, since I don't own and will not be buying Forces.

Had plenty of experience with this one back when I was going for the platinum trophy when the game released - using the Float Wispon on Imperial Tower to soar through the stage gave one of the best payouts in the entire game, giving you 999 rings long before you get close to the sky beam sequence lol, although it was pretty annoying since Imperial Tower is actually one of the more trickier stages in the game, so getting to the end with your payout could take a few tries.

Ah, god bess Arsenal Pyramid and the lightning wisp. 999 rings is always on the cards with a perfect run. Even if it is only done at the very, very end of the stage

I had to remind myself of the benefits of the Void Wispon for this challenge - my first attempt using Burst only got me to 950, but my memory of Prison Hall being the best ring farming stage for 100% completion held true.

Even though some species of Avatar have better ring-acquiring capabilities if I recall, I stuck with my original doggo from my first playthrough for authenticity!

If you can find another officially-released game that lets you get 999 rings without mods, I’ll allow it. I’ll only allow it for those who want to participate but don’t have (and don’t plan on getting) Forces. Which, you know, it’s five years old and dirt cheap these days, so on a Sonic forum like this that exemption is only gonna count for like, three people here.

Funny thing is, I probably could've reinstalled Forces briefly to give this a go... if I didn't opt to cancel my PS Plus subscription this month. Oh well.

That would just make it more impressive, Eggman would rig the slots to always land on Eggman symbols!

Anyway I suppose I can allow Sonic 2’s method as that seems to be a god hard mode version of doing it anyway

Okay how the heck did you get that many rings in Studiopolis??

Tons of rings scattered around the level, pinball minigame in the checkpoints, and replaying the tumbler lotto machines a bunch. It's a bit tedious, but doable!

It's less that I don't own it, but more that I don't want to spend the time to redownload it lol.

Anyways, I'll figure out something later.

I did it, and it was a traumatic experience. I reinstalled Forces only for this, and uninstalled it right after. It just sucks hard, it's a pain to control, really one of the worst Sonic games ever made.

Just in case, I did this as well. It's not easy at all.

99999 rings in the Tiny Chao Garden (sadly I didn't spend much time on this Chao Garden, I spent the most time on my cousin's cartridge and on some emulated versions of the game)

plus I got all the 113 rings in this minigame without losing any life, it doesn't count but I'm still proud of it.

It's one of the perks of the wispon, it's the one which lets you go faster as you collect rings (I had it as well and understand your pain). I don't know who's the genius designer who thought it was a good idea to make something like that in a game which already controls very bad. Sonic's gameplay isn't much better anyway, this game's controls and physics are just bad.
