What if Square Enix made a Sonic RPG?

Sonic's fighting style is pretty straightforward, so a super nuanced action RPG combat system is kind of hard to imagine unless they gave him a weapon of some kind.

You mean like in Sonic and the Black Knight? Sure, but I distinctly recall tons of Final Fantasy characters fighting with their bare hands. (Tifa from FFVII comes to mind)

Tifa has a fairly straightfoward fighting style but I guess that fits Sonic fine. It's just weird to imagine because like...half of his attacks are just him slamming into his opponents in different ways lol. I guess other characters could be more complex.

Knuckles is pretty much Zell from FF8. Could be fun if he could use bits of the environment in attacks too (slamming a rock into group of robots).
