Glitches/bugs/oversights that you actually like.

Discuss problems with Sonic games that you actually enjoy, for one reason or another. Could be a glitch, could be some other unintentional screw up in a Sonic game.

Throughout playing the classic Sonic games I've always actually enjoyed the slowdown that occurs when you get damaged while holding lots of rings. The rings go all over the screen and Sonic falls back in slow motion. Something about the slowdown seems more dramatic than just losing a handful of rings. I find it funny.

Another thing that comes to mind is in Sonic Adventure 2, how some of the characters talk over each other in cutscenes. For example Shadow saying "You're not even good enough to be my fake" while Sonic starts his line "I'll make you eat those words!" before Shadow finishes speaking. I know it's not technically a good aspect and could be kind of confusing to understand at first, but if the two characters were arguing with each other, it's realistic that they would cut each other off.

Thoughts?

SA(DX)'s collision may be flaky, but it lets you do some interesting things. Like playing levels out of order; as Sonic, you can get to Casinopolis, Twinkle Park, and Speed Highway before you even go to Emerald Coast for the first time. It's also possible to bug the level select for a character (if I remember right, by glitching into and finishing their second level before you beat their first level) so that it doesn't have any levels listed. If you try to pick the not-level, it seems to grab some temporary variable based on who you last played as, which can get you into other characters' first levels (though not necessarily in a place that'll allow you to actually play it) or an empty version of the Hedgehog Hammer minigame (if you haven't played as anyone else, this is the default).

Older games had a sort of weird stable instability sometimes, where you could break them in just the right way to work wrong. I kind of miss that about newer games with "safer" programming.

I always thought that jump glitch in Ice Cap that would get you into Knuckles' area was the coolest thing.

(from 50 second mark to the end). In itself, I think the scene is funny that Sonic and Knuckles are arguing with each other. But the fact that the dialogue overlaps each other I think actually makes it even funnier happy.png

(edit: Marble Zone secret path is not a glitch. Never mind).

I wasn't complaining :)
That Marble Zone glitch is really just another secret path, I'm afraid.

There is this one part in Scrap Brain zone act 1 where you can grab a set of speed shoes,

and with a correct amount of speed you can run over the level and take a huge shortcut.

I on occasion quite enjoy 06's complete fail of a game.

Perhaps I'm just a glutton for punishment but every few months I'll load it up just to see how far I can get through before throwing my controller down in frustration.

There are almost none as famous as Chemical Plant Zone's camera bug. Too fast for the TV!
The one in Sonic 2 where he runs off the screen? I always thought that one was awesome.

I always liked the glitch in Sonic Adventure where you could get Tails and Knuckles into Emerald Coast. I perform the glitch almost every time I play the game.

Not having the HD version of Sonic Adventure 2 (only the GC Version), the only way I can enter the test level is to do that precise death in Crazy Gadget, but I've never been able to pull it off right. Not having an Action Replay or anything, this is the only way I can enter the test level, and I want to play around with it so much, but can never perform the glitch right. One time I almost performed the glitch but somehow I entered the goal ring instead, and since then I haven't attempted the glitch.

The "walking through walls" glitch in Unleashed as the Werehog. Specifically the one that utilizes the X X Y combo. This glitch actually allowed us to see unused areas of certain levels some of which didn't even make it into DLC like one part of a Skyscaper Scamper Night act.

I also love the Chao glitch which allows you to keep giving a Chao the same item over and over again. It saves so much time raising Chao and prevents the monotony of playing levels over and over again for the sake of collecting certain items.

I always love when graphics glitch out so a portion of the playable game world turns invisible or you get to see behind it.  I love seeing how levels are structured physically, what is solid, what isn't, what things are only built to be viewable from one angle, what background elements are just 3D skybox and what things I took for granted as legit scenery are actually just 2D cardboard cut-outs when you view them in a way not intended.

I like the Sonic Adventure broken collision, because you can glitch characters into levels they should not be tongue.png

That's always actually really creeped me out for some reason. I remember that glitch in Vice City where you could fly a helicopter under the city if you flew it out from under the mansion, and I could never do it more than a few minutes because it was too unsettling seeing all that stuff that you weren't supposed to interact with (like the sunken boats) that closely.

The one that is really hard to pull off in 06 but awesome if you do - there's one with Knuckles and Rouge where you glide towards the ground and let go literally just as you hit it, and go flying absurdly high into the air.

When I was younger, I actually thought the overlapping dialogue was supposed to convey that Knuckles and Sonic were attempting to talk over each other.  Knuckles was fretting over the Master Emerald pieces but Sonic didn't see the problem presented... but now of course, I know it was just poor editing.

As for me, I uh... I mean... Sonic '06 gets a lot of admittedly much-deserved hate, but...

Come on, guys.  You can WALK up the loops in the game.  That is literally worth buying in itself.  I mean, that is so... awesome.  Sure, you're supposed to RUN and physics-based platforming and stuff, but come on.  Walking up the loop.

LOL I'M SONIC... WALKING UP THE LOOPS... LIKE A BOSS.

Definitely the glitch that allowed Omega to fly. One of the only parts of 06 I liked.

That was one of my favorite glitches too.

Anyway I like so many glitches on Sonic 06. Because the games was so badly rushed, you expect a lot of them.

There's one where you can finish Casinopolis without needing to get 400 rings. Level A could kiss itself if I knew how to do it in SADX.

I'm not sure if it's a glitch, but in the Rush games you can do a spin dash followed by a quick hop and gain an INSANE burst of speed when you land, it's really useful in boss battles. If it is a glitch, at least it's consistent in how it works and it actually helpful.

I swear that's possible in the Adventure games too.

In Sonic 1, you can glitch yourself so you're above Eggbotnik's Eggmobile thus repeatedly hitting him and winning.

Wasn't that only possible with Sonic Genesis? The bug-ridden GBA port of Sonic 1?
