Well look how huge Just Cause 2's world is. How many discs does that have?
Not quite the same thing. A lot of JC2 is procedurally generated - just as a random example, the game makes up forests as it goes based on areas which the devs designated as forest areas. As such, the game doesn't store the location of every individual tree hard-coded as a coordinate or any such thing so much as the game just placing them randomly whenever you visit the area. It also means the forests themselves have a tendency to be completely inconsistent between multiple visits, but that's besides the point.

What also helps in JC2's favour is that there's relatively little in the way of urbanization going, which means a lot of the geometry between key locations could be summed up essentially as relatively un-intricate polygons with a tiled texture slapped onto them. Hell, even when cities do start showing up, they recycle resources like crazy, and it's not uncommon to start getting sick of seeing the exact same models from the buildings right down to every individual fence segment over and over. Point is, JC2 gets away with it pretty easy because yes, there's a lot of featureless terrain in it and it benefits from a lot of smoke-and-mirrors to keep its filesize down. In a game that's almost exclusively set in cities, however, there's very little to gain from facades like that without a very noticable drop in visual quality to show for it.

And honestly? Who the fuck needs a world that big, anyway? It just makes travel more of a pain in exchange for more unmemorable landmarks that don't serve any actual gameplay purpose whatsoever.

The graphics look AMAZING! Not so sure about the location being Los Santos again, since I was hoping it would be somewhere new. =[ I just hope this game doesn't go all realistic and dark like GTA IV either!

As for that map...it seems legit? O.o

Tons of rumors going on for this game. Some claiming leaks, while others are saying they got an exclusive with Rockstar. *Coughbullshitcough* But they are pretty interesting to read, so here are most of the rumors going around.

  • The game world is absolutely massive and will push both xbox and PS3 to the very limit in terms of what it has accomplished. Yes, the main city is simply Los Santos however is it AT LEAST 4 times bigger than Liberty City in GTA 4 and that is just Los Santos. The surrounding country side, beaches, etc are massive. For instance, we saw the main character ( an African/American, early 30's) travel by car from the center of Los Santos into the wildnerness and it took over 15 minutes. The views were incredible from farmhouses with cattle, huge wind farms, an oil refinery which appeared to be living and breathing with nearly 100 NPCs working on machinery, operating vehicles, lifting and loaded, etc, unlike the gas works in GTA 4 which seemed to only house a few NPC at a time. The forests are more beautiful than those in RDR and featured people camping, young NPC drinking and dancing around campfires, people riding dirt bikes and jumping over logs, streams, etc. The water effects, forna, plants, trees all looked beautiful.
  • The shooting mechanics have been greatly improved with animations for diving, climbing, rolling and crawling all added for better realism. The re-loading animations for new ammo also look cooler, less cdn.static.
  • There is much more climbable elements in the world such as ladders, overhand climbing, etc.
  • There are animals in the game from dogs to cattle but at this time it is not confirmed if you will be able to harm the animals. Rockstar were able to get away with it in RDR as it was a true depiction of the world in which the game was set. Allowing dogs/cattle to die in a game sent in current times may cause headaches with PETA. Its unclear if Rockstar were joking here.
  • There are planes to pilot and they can be crashed into buildings if you choose to do so....
  • Rockstar have included many, many more interior locations such as a shopping mall, college campus, police station, a huge hospital and there is also a vast underground sewer network which one mission later in the game involves a jet ski chase that culminates in a Fugitive-esque waterfall jump ( there are nods to the ridiculous but awesome Ballad Of Gay Tony missions)
  • The city is full of NPCs jogging, weight-lifting, hitting on women, being chased on foot by cops, shopping, washing cars, fixing fences, moving home, filling up their cars, etc.

    REAL JUICY INFO:

Cars can be upgraded/repaired and it has been considered to have a car have fuel forcing the player to fill her up.
The dating aspect of the game is gone. You still have a cell-phone but only people you will meet in the game will call you to ask you to do a mission or to ask you to do something else before the mission.
Weapons include the usual arsenal you'd aspect but the flamethrowers, remote mines, laxer trip mines and claymores are included. It is possible now to pick up random objects in a street/buidling to use as a weapon. There is also a museam where it is possible to steal old age swords, axes, etc.
It is possible to rupture a fuel line and if you shot at the trail of gasoline it will lead straight back to the car blowing it up.
mini games such as bowling, darts, etc have all gone. You can play basketball, weight train, arm wrestle, gamble and cage fight, enter triatholons, water races, cannoing, ab-saling, rock climbing, base jumping, ski diving. More to be confirmed.
Character customisation is back but only in terms of clothing, body weight, etc. The player you start off which, much like CJ, can't be altered by race, age, height, etc.
Rockstar said burglary missions may return but only as part of missions and not on neigbourhood houses.
No children NPC at all. Ever.
There is now an ability to grab people and use as sheilds or in "hostage" situations.
The cops are much, much, much more realistic. If you kill somebody when you know there are no cops around you will not run the risk of a one star as often as you would in GTA4. The cops will use smoke and tear gas, dogs, riot gear and rams to knock down the doors of buildings you are hiding in.
You can enter some buildings and lock doors, push objects in the way to barricade.
You become better at things as the game progresses. If you only ride motorbikes then you will increase your skills, same as individual weapons.
Certain weapons can be customisable and some even home-made.
One mission involves breaking out a very familiar GTA icon from a previous game...
Torrential rain fall and sunshine and even tremors will appear in the game.

I don't care about text rumours any more, it's all so much bullshit to me now. They used to get me hyped but no longer. Christ alive, why do people even bother? Pictures are where it's at.

Flying planes around sounds fun, but can you play multiplayer and have someone stand on top of the plane like Sonic and Tails? That was really awesome in San Andreas.

I don't care about text rumours any more, it's all so much bullshit to me now. They used to get me hyped but no longer. Christ alive, why do people even bother? Pictures are where it's at.

I think written rumors are more interesting than screens since you can get a lot more of the supposed details from text than you can by just looking at pictures. It facilitates more discussion too, I think, even if it all ends up being fake in the end.

But since you like pictures so much I made one just for you got one from my secret reliable source from Rockstar.

Edit, months later: ALRIGHT. THAT'S NOT THE PICTURE I UPLOADED.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS? IS IT ONE OF YOU CHUCKLENUTS?

Bump

No info about this game for awhile huh? Rockstar must be getting something ready for E3, can't wait.

Anyways, about 2 weeks ago GTAV Character Animator Alex O'Dwyer (Employee at Rockstar North), posted his CV or Resume saying that the game would be coming out this October

gtavheaderimgodwyercv530px.jpg

Rockstar quickly moved in and pulled down the Resume, and have not yet commented on the matter at hand.

Not confirmed or anything, but it's not too unbelievable taking in account of Rockstar releasing GTA games during the holiday (Minus GTAIV, which was going to be released in 2007 when they pulled back because they didn't want to compete with Halo 3)

But, it's also worth noting that Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive, may not be so fond of them releasing GTAV the same month as Bioshock Inifite. Plus back in Feburary, Take-Two said Rockstar was making incredible progress with the game.

Like I said, nothing been confirmed so don't hold your heart on it coming out this year. Besides, at least we'll have some more information at E3 (I hope).

Finally, another rumor that I just think isn't going to happen, but someone says Rockstar is trying to put the game on the Vita as well. No way it can happen without too much of a downgrade, it'd be like the Wii port compared to the 360 and PS3 versions.

Rockstar reveals what it wants, when it wants; it is beholden to no industry events where that sort of thing is concerned.

And it wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to hop onto the Vita bandwagon. I can't comment on whether the full game could fit onto it, but I do know that if it can't, a Liberty City Stories-style equivalent would be eminently doable, and would perhaps even be more desirable than GTA V itself as it could launch a bit later on and keep the GTA awareness alive while (or even after) expansion content for V is prepared.

Yep.

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1401705/gta_5_rockstar_not_at_e3_2012_report.html

GTA 5 developer Rockstar is not set to reveal more on the game at E3, as no representatives of the studio are planning to attend the Los Angeles event next week, according to reports.

Despite speculation linking an upcoming GTA 5 re-reveal to E3, CVG reckons no executive or development staff from Rockstar will be in L.A. next week.

Rockstar doesn't traditionally attend E3, but with GTA 5 widely expected to launch before April 2013, it would make sense for the developer to show off the game sometime soon.

That said, GTA 5 was announced with very little fanfare via a debut trailer back in November.

Wonder when they're gonna show off.

ESRB rates GTA III and GTA Vice City for Playstation 3

This happened a few months ago, but it was removed a day or two after it was posted. But now it's been re-listed.

Meh. Shittiest versions of those two, and GTA III has aged so poorly that it's almost unplayable. It's nice that people can play them, but if they own a computer made at any time in the past 5 years than they can play them in much better form.

Well being a huge GTA Fan. I can't wait for 5. I think everyone's fav is San Andreas (Which is mine). Anyways I really want to see gameplay. GTA IV was not bad; I understood Rockstar's approach at being more realistic, they are great developers who make fantastic games so I am sure they learned from GTA IV and it's feedback. Hopefully right? ph34r.png

I doubt we will hear anything about this game until next year. Surely they are not releasing it later this year, as there has been no confirmation or date given. Then again, the same thing happened with GTA IV. Damn Rockstar why you so secretive? X(

I just wanna see some footage,or even a new trailer.

Rumor: GTA V to be present at Gamescon?

http://www.gamesrada...v-release-date/

The first proper details surrounding the most anticipated game of 2012, Grand Theft Auto V, may finally emerge at Europe's biggest video game trade fair - Gamescom 2012.

Of course it is only rumours and speculation at the moment, but the evidence does suggest that we are likely to see details surface about GTA V at Gamescom, including a release date.

The rumours spawn from the Gamescom 2012 official trailer, which shows a glimpse - albeit very brief glimpse - of GTA V footage, and the fact that Rockstar's parent company Take-Two is listed as an exhibitor at the event.

Rockstar themselves haven't been specifically listed as an exhibitor, but it seems safe to assume that the presence of Take-Two and the GTA V footage in the trailer, suggests some big news is on its way.

I doubt we would get a release date, but it isn't too far above them to show some footage or a new trailer at Gamescon. Gamescon 2012 trailer in the link.

The ones at 1:23 and 3:31 are from Black Ops 2, actually. Also from my limited German the video description seems to say that the game footage are taken from their own trailers, so technically there's nothing new.

But hopefully they do show something at Gamescom.
