  • First Sonic 3 Trailer Shown By Paramount Behind Closed Doors At Cinemacon

    Jim Carrey is fat now.

The first footage from Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 3 debuted behind closed doors at their Cinemacon panel earlier today. So far, they haven't released it publicly, but its contents have been described by press who attended the event.

The trailer shows Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik in his lab. He's gained weight from binging carbohydrates, meaning cinematic Robotnik will finally get to be fat. Someone is quoted as saying "we found him," presumably referring to Shadow. The trailer also shows Robotnik recruiting Shadow, Shadow facing off against Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, and Sonic and Shadow fighting in the New York City skyline. Shadow also gets a motorbike. As of this writing, I'm still a little unsure how it all fits together, as these details are taken from multiple sources.

Hopefully Paramount will show the footage soon.

The sourced for this info can be found here, here, here, and here.

No casting for Shadow was revealed, who apparently didn't talk in the trailer.

Shadow's eventual VA reveal can turn into its own individual marketing stunt.

They really don't need to spill the beans now. Frankly, seeing him in action is more than enough.

The blue balling surrounding this movie is insane. Can't deny that it works though. I'm more excited than ever to see the first trailer for the movie because of this.

Excited to see fat Jim Eggman at last!

In the trailer description they say he's just let all his hair grow out, so I'm picturing him like this:

Also they mention that he'll get a "game-accurate mustache." So like, even MORE than how it looked in Sonic 2? How much closer can we get without it looking ridiculous? Eggman 06 style?

Why do I have this feeling...

Well, Shadow was riding a motorcycle in the trailer, right? Why do I feel that motorcycle may have been the one that appeared in the MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas?

    Just a thought.

EDIT: I speak of this, by the way.

So, how long does it usually take for movies shown at CinemaCon to be released to the public after they were shown at the event, if I may ask?

leaks aside, it differs (sometimes people sneak in cell phones and what not). You can never really say.

All you can do is take in the knowledge that the footage is in a state that the parent company is willing to show, which means the timetable for when they will release something to the public has probably already been mapped out.

Honestly, the longer we go, the harder it will be to keep Shadow's VA under wraps. If they want to get the most bang for their buck, they'll show us the first trailer when they are ready to announce his VA.

As a Shadow fan I'm really excited, just like for Jim Carrey's return that we already knew about. Yeah it's cool and all, but I'm really worried about Amy and especially Rouge, I want more than just Shadow in this movie. And the fact that they are ignoring female characters bothers me particularly at this point... In my opinion Rouge is important for the plot they chose to adapt, it won't be 1:1 but I need to see her, and Amy is iconic, she should have been introduced even earlier IMO.

I think it's fine as it is. In this movie series, every character comes from alien worlds, and you need to have a valid explanation for why said character arrived on Earth and interacted with the main characters. Rouge's role in the game was important, but in the movie's universe it may make more sense if that role is done by a human agent; same for Amy's role, it will probably be someone human, maybe Tom or someone from his family.

Adding more animal characters just for the sake of it would bloat the cast and take the spotlight away from Shadow, who's supposed to be the big gimmick of the movie, plus it would feel forced with weak reasons for them to appear. Tails was already kinda useless and shoehorned for the sake of being a main character in movie 2, his gadgets used by other people when he was unconscious impacted the plot more than the character himself.

If the series will get new entries after the third movie, and especially if that games list is real, then they better to slowly add the other characters in the next movies/series... I can see Metal Sonic and Amy being added in a movie/series that adapts Sonic CD, and all the other characters will be also introduced before or during the Sonic Heroes one.

Since they aren't adaptating the games 1:1, I think games such as CD and Colors will likely be mixed together as one single movie, as well as Riders and Heroes (the extreme gear competition might be the exploit to make everyone meet - probably a series instead of a movie I think, it fits better in that format given the context).
