Bountiful Big's Brazen Bonus Beginnings

I don't get the obsession of using Big in jokes. Heck, I'm not sure if some of them are even jokes, but regardless, this one did encourage me to finally get around to finishing The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog, so that was nice. I know I didn't have to complete the game for the bonus, but I was already playing it and Big appears around the halfway point so I might as well.

New Additions

16. The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog

To prove that the screenshot I took was of my playthrough, he has the most evil sounding name in the world. Dave!! The only reason I'm saying that is so I can reference a movie.

Their is no real reason why it took me so long to finish this game. I'm just easily distracted and it slipped into my back catalogue like so many other games do. Even though it's a year old and free, I'm still reluctant to go into details about the game. It was just well written and wholesome with it's characters and themes. It's a shame. Blaze mentions escape room attractions the gang could check out. That sounds like the perfect setting for a sequel.

17. Grim Guardians: Demon Purge

Spoiler

IMG20240407011759.jpg.8f572e9b0cea5300795213a16d411abd.jpg

Two things I should mention before going into the game. Number one, having just come from March-O-Vania, I didn't plan my first major April game to basically be a Castlevania clone. Number two, it's a matter of debate if I 100% completed this game or not. After completing the game, you unlock collectables dotted around the levels. I got them all excepts one. However, their is no prize upon completion. It has Achievements but I'm always playing the Switch version so generally don't care, but I did fail to get 5 Achievements. (One of the tied to the collectables.)

Meanwhile, I found all the upgrades, strengthened all sub-weapons, rescued all lost students and faculty and earned the three different endings that each change the difficulty of the final boss. But I'm not fishing for the 100% completion like you might think. I'm actually disappointed that I failed to get all the post game collectables and feel I shouldn't get the 100% Completion because of it. The game has a compass function but it only tells you about the main power up items, missing people and boss fight locations. The post game collectables aren't tracked and due to their random nature, finding the 1 out of 40 that I missed would take significant time.

Also, I haven't played much Castlevania before. Is it common for boss characters to try and perform one final attack on you before they die? The bosses in this game don't mess around, even though the game is pretty much a parody and not taking itself too seriously. One interesting mechanic that might be unique for this game is the duo protagonists. We're playing as Demon Hunting sisters who each specialize in different equipment. If one sister falls, you'll be sent back to the last checkpoint as the other sister. Return to the place the first sister fell and you can revive her. Keeping both sisters alive means you aren't losing lives. Once you get the Ōnusa sub-weapon, staying alive does become a little easier. Unless you fall into pits a lot. The game will put the sister on a safe platform if that happens so she can still be revived.

Hiya, heard about this whole thing and I'm interested in joining! Just have a quick question, can games you've already beaten this year prior to starting the challenge count towards it, and can you recomplete games you've beaten in the past this year for it to count?

As long as it was completed in this year, it's eligible to be submitted. Just make sure you show evidence to prove the game was finished/completed.

Games finished in the past can also be refinished/recompleted for submission too.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.2f3dc9111b462c2d838cee5d05be1afe.png

I've always been fascinated by this game. Even as I was warned by the not exactly ringing endorsement from Clint:

This was nonetheless a game that I'd had since I could remember anything and had only really tried to play a few times since I was little.

Because it was fucking scary. You have this starting area that enemies can't go into and won't spawn at, but if you step outside of it they almost immediately spawn. And the music abruptly changes from a cheerful, uplifting ditty:

To this fucking insanely intense, harsh battle theme:

With skeletons and wraiths attacking you usually.

So young me thought I was so fucking clever that I would kite enemies into the town and kill them, which worked for a while. Except this open world RPG with the massive Skyrim-sized world (in 1987) also had a day night cycle. And as the world turned nearly pitch black, this kinda haunting song would begin to play:

And at night, those fuckers would come right into the town and go after you. They didn't give a fuck. And the first time it happened when I was like 6 years old it scared me so much that I didn't touch the game again for 8 years.

But enough of that. This game is known for it's massive open world. How massive?

image.thumb.png.b7297a85809f0f33022e1003fa9c5bba.png

Pretty fucking big. Here's the starting town, on the map:

image.png.abf5e984f54d2fb1cc321fa166c36f36.png

And here's how it looks in practice:

image.thumb.png.b08f485d9c880d9f1df25a6f5eac6a47.png

Now to be fair the manual for all versions of the game, including the Genesis one, came with a map with some obvious landmarks to seek out:

image.thumb.png.8bcba4014bfd708ce43f0171de229365.png

To take some of that praise away, you have situations like this, where you walk for like 10 minutes in real life to come across a guard outpost:

image.thumb.png.412ba521d6ac2b25cd0faed22ce7955b.png

To add to some praise back, the game does have an in-game map that does give you a good lay of the land:

image.thumb.png.02f7edfebabfd4b5b73d736fa0b727b7.png

But it is through single-use items (that granted you get a shitload of). And you can't use it in caves. The game essentially seems to want you to wander around aimlessly to just explore shit, but even that is handcuffed by the fact that it has a hunger and sleep system and is constantly spawning enemies at you; but more importantly:

image.thumb.png.6df894dfff495ca9004ea767592ed8fa.png

You could be wandering around and find some interesting place and then you're fucked if you don't have a (single use) specific color (of 6) key for the door (that relocks as soon as you leave). I was cheesing this with a walkthrough, but even I was growing frustrated with just how nasty the game was with this stuff even as it didn't affect me at all.

To the game's final credit, it does have a fast travel system:

image.thumb.png.b06175f7f979293e228e19777a3cea19.png

And even though they are single-use items to activate those items are common as shit. To take that praise away, they aren't signposted or really anywhere near where they should be:

image.png.cb6d3f7baa9eb7a7022172e5fa46d9d6.png

guess if you had your eyes glued to the supplied map you'd be able to find them kinda easily by making your own reference points but the normal view is a bit too zoomed in to make even that easy. And to wit, if you wanted to just speedrun this, the in-game map is basically just this in terms of critical path:

image.thumb.png.893419542d4ca630c821680d0b8f5a60.png

I power-leveled the shit out of this and effectively couldn't be harmed by anyone but archers and boss characters, but the lack of any direction and basically telling you to fuck off for exploring without being prepared (without you knowing you could be) was making me mad anyway. Like it's funny that you can basically just stand in place and get attacked from all sides:

image.thumb.png.86f01be43d9c3f6f020c89d1ab16db74.png

And the only way you'd be killed is if you literally starved to death.

image.thumb.png.bf723f03b5d2f28adab2a7e309222993.png

image.thumb.png.39fea45a4106e71817ba4e2d1fee10e1.png

Like it's Disgaea broken. Bravery also influences the attack range of your sword, so when you max it out:

image.thumb.png.23995e28c9acb7453daf44a5667ea476.png

You can attack shit through walls.

The other thing though, is how horrendous the mazes are to traverse. Like look at this shit:

image.png.c37c3b53be05eff3de10720bdd3bc6a5.png

If you started in the bottom left:

image.png.0326e7098d5343de1293df90b26122c2.png

Congratulations. If you don't have the bird totem you could wander around for 20 minutes before you realize that even entering on that side is a dead end. But that's not the worst one. It's honestly not even that bad if you're using the in-game map, nevermind if your face is glued to a really good walkthrough like mine was (because the game expects you to explore the whole ass world and talk to random NPCs to find out what you need to do through cryptic hints; and to be frank I only had a week to play this and this game is no Skyrim). The solution is just this:

image.png.1cc87e50c0376532720e9b0fa55ff6b2.png

Its not cereal box maze easy, but it's not terrible. Even though you have to retrace your steps out, that's whatever. It's not great but I can deal.

Nah, the bad one is this one:

image.png.63cbfaa79271f50b0dd9112f8481211c.png

Which is located here:

image.png.95e5af9df88dd4b63d89caedafbec1ee.png

image.thumb.png.ddd772eae2e73a12bd17de03a595cb9c.png

Like holy fuck this is the worst dungeon I've ever seen in a game. You need one time use-keys to traverse each room, all of them gold. When you get to a certain point the game starts re-locking the ones you opened on you (luckily at least it starts doing so with a door that you can see it close again). This itself is terrible because the fact you have to backtrack through the maze to leave and now you don't know what rooms you came through; but moreso because you need over 30 fucking gold keys to get all the way through the maze and get back out; and that's if you know exactly what doors to open and no more. On top of that, one of the doors you need to open is hidden, and you either need to use another single-use item (the orb) to make it visible or you need to wall hump until the game told you that the door (that you can't see) is locked. You know how many keys the inventory screen shows you?

image.thumb.png.99d560bbe19d70997ba528d70841bf97.png

Only 16. So you have no way of knowing how many keys you have because the inventory screen only shows you half the amount you need. So at this point the question I was asking myself was (even though I know I wouldn't since I knew I had a fuckton of keys) could you softlock yourself in this dungeon after getting the two Macguffins located inside it? I decided no, since the game is constantly spawning enemies in the crypt while you're in it so you could technically eventually get enough keys to get back out. Maybe even before you die in real life of old age.

Am I done with issues with it? Of course not. The game also is lousy with moon logic puzzles.

image.png.a0d76dd56911cf64255123944d94ebb8.png

image.png.ca5bdee93cc07458ebaf9e3cc2925068.png

"Walk all the way to this point on the map"

image.thumb.png.58b2cb2f8dc4cd270a3c460c37ebd389.png

"Kill these three snakes attacking these eggs."

image.thumb.png.54b3851b1a9d57fdc4e1fa1fd934c46b.png

"And the turtle will thank you and give you an item to summon her at any time."

Unless the turtle doesn't do that and you need to walk all the way the fuck to the lighthouse over here:

image.thumb.png.e44e14be1bb97c162b5990818a9ca413.png

To actually summon the turtle again after the first encounter.

Or maybe:

image.png.693bde9e06aa366a7b1e313b4525acff.png

image.png.8b1d0cacfc5a313cf89ff9e383573691.png

"Go to this graveyard, and go into the crypt."

image.thumb.png.0e1113278387e9616629a2b0e545358b.png

"Wait until midnight for this ghost to spawn and talk to him to know what to do. Don't worry about finding this out, because a homeless guy on the other side of the fucking map will tell you this in a hint."

At one point you fight a witch (she's in the castle in the fucking forest) and at some point I picked up something that made it so she "is defenseless":

image.thumb.png.5419e8aa25cb516f6a321243253d4156.png

Except I get near her and she starts hurting me anyway, so you hear this riveting combat dialog:

image.thumb.png.bc5c265f6818780b0793c333c0392c0d.png

Whatever. Hit her with the sword and she explodes:

image.thumb.png.4cba240b4c88fb6d2150737cad691d97.png

And you get the lasso. The lasso is important, because once you get the lasso and travel to literally the opposite corner of the map (which is why I needed to get the other turtle shell since it bugged out and didn't give it to me the first time), you find this:

image.thumb.png.3e3bb60690492e8b7c4797b2a73da5ce.png

image.thumb.png.1e321b95a4c6d43cdd529f407f3a6c8c.png

Now you can fly. Now traversing the massive open world is fun. And fast. Now you can go rescue the princess:

image.thumb.png.fb818d8020806156ef8c00af41ed75a1.png

image.thumb.png.189d405d56e32d0bbf03449e3b8a5c2a.png

Now you can get laid:

image.thumb.png.83cddf917492d8d6b8e0fd3169db2db4.png

And you get paid:

image.thumb.png.a7ba2b445f3c955f090fe4483f2be4fc.png

Really, wow:

image.thumb.png.6f6b6339e1b3f7ddbce122abeee2b501.png

You can land the swan almost anywhere, and enemies won't spawn anymore if you're flying on it. It's amazing, and fully opens the game up to be more easily traveled without any hassle whatsoever. It sure would be fucking ridiculous if you (at least following this walkthrough but I'm not sure how many shortcuts can be taken) basically just had the final boss to deal with after spending ton of hours traversing this unnecessarily huge game world on slow ass foot, huh?

Anyway, let's go fuck up the final boss!

image.thumb.png.423922f3ca479e1027cc6f8976add3f0.png

image.thumb.png.99d560bbe19d70997ba528d70841bf97.png

I've got all the items. I've got 999 Bravery points. This should be fine to fuck him up.

With a brief respite where I'm attacked by the old Electronic Arts logo:

The night vision item makes everything look like the Virtual Boy, amusingly.

image.thumb.png.a20549ead0f0976c5191cec0c72c771d.png

The dragon, prominently featured on the game cover, nonetheless loses some of its luster in comparson even if it's technically drawn very accurately:

image.thumb.png.8f0de6c3f506d1a7f06f31df68560c29.png

Plus it's a punk-ass midboss that goes out like a bitch.

A 3/10 game wrapped in 10/10 insanely-ahead-of-its-time ambition, allowing some leeway for the fact that the whole thing was mostly made by one guy. I'm glad regardless I finally got around to really playing it. Also, thank fucking God for emulator fast forward.

That's not a Castlevania thing, it's an IntiCreates thing; the bosses do that in the Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon duology, which GGDP is sort of a spiritual sequel to.  (And I'd have played it, too, but I can no longer deal with how IntiCreates tends to portray women in its games.)

So, we finished Sonic before the Sequel this week over on YouTube.

I say finished, because I found out in post that there is a follow up boss if you beat the game in a specific time. Which I've not had time to return to attempt, maybe in the future though...

I will say that I feel my playthrough was hampered by no cutscenes, as the very original version of the game does not support them on current hardware. While I am aware of updated versions available that give those cutscenes, there are so many it's hard to find one which is just what you're after, so decided to stick with the barebones original.

However, I had a lot of fun in a game from 2012, and it's very obvious to see where a lot of newer or later released fangames received a lot of their inspiration.

So, a new finished game, brings us to the next one. There were a lot of things we wanted to attempt that were slightly different, unfortunately as it was near impossible to get them working, we moved to being fashionably late with Sonic Superstars...

I think I make my thoughts pretty clear with the title of this first video, but it is slowly growing on me. But I do not get the gimmick of the Emerald chases. I feel I've just been super lucky in grabbing the emeralds so far. We'll see, still got several levels to go as of writing, and from what I've seen in this thread alone, a fair amount of post game.

Game 7 - Lego Jurassic World (PSN) - 100%

This brings me back. Why don't they make more games about the stories in the Jurassic movies? The fact a Lego game is the best non park builder game shows they really need to up their game and stop making park builder games. I believe in you Jurassic Park Survivor! Also a shame they never added a Fallen Kingdom DLC to this, the Lockwood estate was begging for a level or two!

Really quick status update.

image.thumb.png.c0b5e3fda93849597c414ee4c95a84be.pngSince you all insist on making me play a game about a wanted criminal, here he is. As much as I love Sonic Adventure, I wasn't really in the mood to replay it. Thankfully, Big was just standing here in Station Square so I didn't have to do too much.

Maybe if I'm back in an Adventure 1 kind of a mood then I'll fire it up again since it runs excellently at 1080p on my laptop (unlike a lot of games which really need my desktop's dedicated graphics card) and . But if there's anything this game could really benefit from it's being able to control the camera with the mouse. Heck, make it possible to jump and spindash with the left and right click buttons respectively. Balan Wonderworld does that for its... jump and jump buttons and that makes the game a lot more enjoyable for me on account of not needing to get out a controller.

Other than that, I decided to skip ahead and start playing Ys: The Oath in Felghana on my laptop (which it also runs excellently at 1080p) and I am loving it so far. The action feels a lot more satisfying than in Ys 6 and it even seems like they brought the magic system back from Ys 2. I'll have to boot up Ys Origin again to get a better idea of what's changed from a mechanical standpoint, but also Ys 3 to see how they've adapted content from it into this new reimagining.

God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC – 100% Complete

Spoiler

Screenshot_20240406-175032.thumb.png.8f7d8f4aeae9bed5b9457864eec58482.png

The free rogue-like update that was rolled out late last year, it serves to reconcile the end of the main game with Greek origins of the series. It further explores the character of Kratos and shows how far he has come from the rage monster of the PS2. From a gameplay point of view...its ok.

I don’t really play rogue likes and this hasn’t converted me to the idea. The base combat is still fun, but there are only a limited amount of arenas and whilst the encounters escalate as you make your repeat runs, it gets repetitive. I don’t want to shit on this as it was free and I did get a few hours out of it, but I don’t see myself replaying this.

Star Wars Squadrons – Finished

Spoiler

Screenshot_20240406-175056.thumb.png.c3d3455681628dc3b221068123b03eae.png

I earned some PSN Credit through the PS Stars campaign, and by fluke saw that this had been heavily discounted, so essentially got to play this for free too! I played it all through VR and being able to sit in an X-Wing or Tie Fighter hits that childhood wish fulfilment. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very good at the game. Again, don’t really play flight or space stuff so in combat I was frequently losing my targets. Each mission has 5 medals you be awarded with for 100% but I think that’s beyond me.

Star Tropics – 100% Completed

Another retro title I’ve heard about but had never played previously. This has an odd control scheme in the dungeons – you have to press once to turn direction, and a second time to actually move. This makes movement pretty stilted, but using the analogue stick does mitigate it somewhat. Boss battles are extra difficult though, because you can’t react to projectile attacks quick enough! The whole game is tough, and would be pretty frustrating without save states or the rewind features. The game itself kinda reminds me of kid’s adventure movies like The Goonies, a manic whimsy that keeps adding more layers as you progress. I can see why it gathered a cult following.

For 100% Completion I got all health upgrades, so had maximum health.

Haven't played a lot of games recently, but I can safely say I made some good progress on two.

Starting with Super Mario 3D Land, I finished every level with Mario and am making my way to finish every level with Luigi to unlock the true final level of the game.

In regards to Crash Bash, I'm about 90% of the way there, the gold relics proving to be extra pain in the ass to obtain. Considering there are extra mini-games after completing the main campaign, let's just say I'm not too optimistic about completing it this upcoming week.

Also, since the shutdown of the Nintendo Network services is coming soon, I played a bit of everything to have some last memories from using the service. I especially played a lot of Smash 4, both on 3DS and Wii U. I'm mentioning that especially, because I know the 3DS version has Big The Cat being represented in the form of an unlockable trophy. These two games, even as lackluster they may in some aspects, still hold a special place in my heart, and I'm glad I could enjoy their official servers one final time this week. And with Pretendo Network being right around the corner, you bet I'm gonna continue playing these games online once Pretendo opens their servers for these games.

For the Big statue, while it would count, you still need to show a screenshot/evidence of finding him in-game.

Today is the last day for the Big challenge, so don't miss out!

Update time!

This will just be a quick update for this week as I haven’t finished or completed any more games yet. I have made more progress in what I was able to salvage from my Super Mario 64 run through, and I have almost got to the point where I was when I accidentally replaced the save state, so it hopefully shouldn’t take me that much longer to reach my goal of getting all 120 Stars. Additionally, this week I plan on completing some of the other Mario related game playthroughs, alongside some other titles on my XBOX, plus there may also be a little surprise here and there too, so stay tuned for that.

HOWEVER!!

Remember the check-in that I made yesterday for posting my progress in relation to the Big the Cat bonus challenge? Well, guess what? I can confirm that I have gone one better, and have managed to complete Big’s  story in Sonic Adventure DX!

IMG_7152.thumb.jpeg.de1580b30da2cafb601a733025f16169.jpeg

Yes, as promised, I managed to complete Big’s story before the weekend was over. Admittedly, coming back to play through his levels had me experiencing a little bit of trepidation, given that some players have often said how bad Big’s gameplay can be. However, much to my surprise, I actually found that it actually wasn’t as bad as I’d feared. It turned out to be a rather enjoyable experience, albeit a little short, but after familiarising myself with the fishing mechanic tied to the constant search for Froggy, I was actually able to find it quite easy to control the lure in an attempt to reel in Big’s friend, a big fish, etc. (Sorry.) I did find it slightly more difficult to move the control stick into a position that would allow less strain to be taken on the pole, but it wasn’t too bad from my experience. As long as you keep the stick in the sweet spot, you shouldn’t really have too many problems.

Ultimately, I think that the bad reputation that Big gets as a result of these levels is somewhat undeserved, and if you have the patience for something that isn’t quite as fast-paced as some of the other characters’ stories in SA1, you might find some elements that are quite enjoyable when playing as Big the Cat.

Best friends, back together, safe and sound…

Again, I just want to remind everyone that I am not currently counting Sonic Adventure DX as part of my finished/completed games list just yet, as I have yet to complete the other stories with the rest of the characters - I plan on playing through Tails’ story next, followed by Knuckles. I will hopefully add SA1 to the list of games soon, but I need to make more progress before I can confirm that the game is finished/completed.

That’s it from me for now. Until the next update - see you around!

Was hoping to get a update finished tonight but I'm still behind with some games since a lot of time this week was spent doing co-op/multiplayer games.

That said, I did start Sonic Heroes this week, so...

Game 11 Finished / Game 4 Completed - It Takes Two (XSX)

Been wanting to play this with Mena, my other half, for a long time and we finally got it installed last weekend and have just now finished it.

This is perhaps one of my favourite Co-Op experiences in video games - the LEGO games are fun (I can't remember the last time I finished one solo), but this is built with co-op in mind, and it's very, very good.

Game 1 - Fortnite Season 5 Part 1

Oh my God I can't believe this is technically the first and only game I've beaten this year so far...

IMG_7965.thumb.jpg.002da45bd39b6c5adeb0e0ff7ff7c9b0.jpg

Near the end of December last yer I decided to check out the game out of morbid curiosity (and also the Cell skin being announced as part of the Dragon Ball collab). It had been years since I touched the game (last time I played they still had the original map and there weren't really collabs yet) and I was kinda interested in trying a battle royale game that wasn't something like Tetris 99, Fall Guys, or F-Zero 99, so here we are. I actually enjoyed myself more than I thought I would considering I'm not really into shooters for the most part. Managed to complete the main pass around January, although I didn't get all of the bonus rewards, only got up to Prismatic Terrazo Hope, so I think that locks me out of 100% for this permanently. Either way, it was surprisingly fun, but I don't think I'll get back into it any time soon, barring any other sort of appealing collab events or game modes.

In terms of other check-in stuff, I have been playing Persona 3 Reload for the past few months, and I'm currently at 11/16, so getting close to the end. And I guess in terms of games from last year that I haven't beaten yet that could count towards the total, I was playing through Yakuza 3, Ghost Trick, and Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, so hoping to get back to those once my course work isn't as hectic (or when summer break begins). Might play through a shorter game to contribute to the total at some point, perhaps one of the NES Mega Man titles.

Finished: 1

Completed: 0

You did better than me in terms of join timing. I joined for the DB collab only to find out I joined the day it literally left. Still waiting on a rerun.

Anyways, unfortunately it does only count for being finished since the bonus pass wasn't finished up.

Addendum to my last post, I just remembered that I actually did beat Pokemon Violet's main campaign this January, so that would technically be the first game I beat this year. However I don't have any pics of my playthrough or my Switch at the moment, so I'll hold off on actually adding that to the list for now.  What I can unambiguously comment on is...

Here's my entry for the bonus April Fool's challenge. This screenshot I took today is from my finished older SA1 file from two years ago, so that's not counting towards the main total, but hope this pleases the funny cat man.

Didn't have a lot of time to play many games this week, or at least nothing new... but I have plenty of time to make for our beloved purple cat, Big!

The game is Sonic Dash. It's a fun little time waster nothing really fancy, and I have most of the characters I want. There really isn't much to say about it, it's an endless runner game starring sonic and the gang... And of course who could forget good old Big with his stylish poses and immense power?

Surely an S-tier character if I'm ever seen one, 10/10.

In all seriousness, a decent time waster, and I like Big. 'Nuff said.

Weekly Check-In:

Been progressing through my games per usual this week. Sadly I couldn't do anything for the Big challenge, but I was able to start a new game with friends.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League - Since some of my other friends have been playing this game, I decided to get it so that we could all play together as a full squad. As a fan of the Arkham series, I've been curious about this game since launch. It's been fun getting to experience it while playing with friends. The combat system definitely takes some getting used to, but I've had a lot of fun with it so far. The story is engaging and the graphics are impressive. The characters are funny and engaging since they're all sort of begrudging heroes who have no other choice but to save the day. It leads to some funny moments and dynamics. It may be different from the rest of the Arkham series, but I think that works in its favor. I'm excited to see where it goes and how things will be by the end.

Other than that, I'm still progressing through Baldur's Gate 3, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Midnight Suns, and Virtue's Last Reward. Been trying to disperse my time with each of them so I don't fall terribly behind on any of them. And it's nice to have a variety of games to play so I don't get sick of one of them. Though my backlog is definitely getting bigger as I discover more games and pick things up that interest me. But hopefully I'll be able to knock some of these out sooner rather than later so that I can move on to new things. Then I can pick up the other games that have been on my wish list... Well, at least I won't run out of things to play.

This is another post I did later than I wanted, but here we go. I didn't make anymore progress in Pikmin 1 or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth since I had a pretty busy week, but I did finish one other thing.

GAME #18 - Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League - Finished

spacer.png

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is a very controversial game, and while I was a bit iffy on trying it out, I bought it when it was on sale for a decent price and decided to give it a play in co-op with Ryan. While it is most certainly not my favorite game in the Arkhamverse, it is a fun one nonetheless. I don't really understand the people calling this game awful, or terrible. Like yeah, it doesn't reach the highs of the Batman games, but it gets somewhat close at points. I'd rather play those, but I'm still playing through this one for a second time with some more friends, so it speaks to how this game isn't that bad.

Of course, this game isn't for everyone. Some people just don't like these types of games, and this one gets rid of a lot of the stealth stuff from the Arkham series in turn for some gunplay. Not much of a focus on melee combat in general like those games, it's gunplay. The live service stuff isn't too bad though in my opinion, at least from what I've played so far. I've only done the campaign, so maybe it'll get worse once I go beyond that, but it's not as bad as Crash Team Rumble was with it's extra content. It actually has stuff to do and quite a bit of levels to reach for the characters that actually matter.

The story is probably the biggest point of division, and while I wouldn't say it's the greatest story ever, it's good for what it is. Once you dig in, you start to realize why the Justice League now exists, and how they ended up where they did in the game. The dialogue is absolutely great too, along with the character interactions among the squad. I played as Captain Boomerang, who is my favorite Squad member in general, but he does not disappoint here in my opinion. The story is also not anywhere near done, and I don't want to spoil leaks, but I think some people in the end will lighten up on some of the issues here with how things are going.

For a game I got on sale, and a fun online co-op game with a fully explorable Metropolis filled with tons of easter eggs, I can't say I'm disappointed. It's a good game, and especially fun with friends. I recommend picking it up on sale.

Sonic Adventure - BIG THE CAT

spacer.png

I was trying to beat the whole game before submitting this, but I just wasn't able to sadly. But it will be done soon! Sonic Adventure is a game that's easy for me to finish, but I just wanted the Big the Cat prize. So here it is, Big the Cat, in all his glory! I actually like this character quite a bit. I know he's controversial but I don't know, I like purple, and he's a well meaning and chill dude.

But yeah, here's the end of my post! I really do want to get more games done and I can't wait to put FF7 Rebirth here, along with the new Fortnite season (hoopefully). This is it for now though, and I look forward to getting more done. Pikmin 1, you are going to be completed soon, I feel it.

So I'd actually beaten Mega Man 6, and was going to do a write-up for it for this week, but then the Big thing happened. And, between my current lack of easy means to play any other game with him in it and me being in game dev hell for for the past month or two, I finally downloaded The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog - arriving to the joke one year late, as I am wont to do. Haven't beaten it yet because again, busy A.F., but I'll hopefully get back to it eventually and not keep putting it off for years like certain other games in my life.

But hey, he's here! Here he is!

20240408054850_1.thumb.jpg.e116563f4dc8b5cfb5f5fbcccc4d46d6.jpg

(Side note, by this point I was getting worried I'd somehow missed him, and would have to replay a bunch of stuff to get back to him.)

Expect the Mega Man 6 write up next week!
