Most overhyped sonic game

It seems odd to make a thread dedicated to calling out "overhyped" games. Like seriously, of course a company is going to overhype their products to see that they sell well.

I can't fathom how people LOVE Sonic CD. I mean, it's ok. Fun for a bit but I find the level design to be all over the place and the bosses are underwhelming. Metal Sonic was fun but the only boss that gave me trouble was the treadmill. Sure, the music is great (JP more so) but I only can remember one or two off the top of my head. Sonic CD is fine but I just can't imagine what about it leaps out to people "Oh yes! Best Sonic game!". 

It gave us Metal Sonic though so that's worth something.

Sonic Mania; I can understand the game looks beautiful and the colors make me happy. But it don't look like it will be the best Sonic game ever persay

I have to agree with those saying there hasn't really been a game too over hyped in my opinion, I think people get excited for it and SEGA tries to bring that out more, but I don't think there's really any that have stood out.
