Zone Ideas!

Recommended Posts

So this topic is about any ideas you might have for a Sonic game. Any, you can discuss them here.

I'll start things off:

EPIC EPICENTRE ZONE

The zone starts off with an on-rails segment running up the face of the volcano, dodging falling rocks. It's a brief section, and after a brief skydive section into the volcano itself, the level begins for real. The level itself is a very dangerous one, as you weave your way around falling rocks, lava streams, and the like. The gimmick is that you can raise the lava (but not lower it) by knocking out certain rocks blocking lava tunnels. Raising the lava may grant you access to one path (as in floating platforms on the lava raise with the lava), but cut of other ones. As you get deeper into it, you enter more narrow caverns, but they branch out a lot more, kind of like a labyrinth.

Monochrome Maze Zone (title pending)

Being one for all kinds of tastes, Robotnik has decided to design his latest fortress with the always classic chess motif. The majority of the place is nothing but black metallic walls and not much else, not unlike Castle Bleck in Super Paper Mario. The floors are, predictably, checkered black and white. The outside areas are - strangely enough - also colourless, the ground being almost snow-white, and the sky being pitch black, with no stars in sight. The music would ideally be something akin to an inverted Tricky Maze for Lost World.

However, there are other thematics and loads of traps, giant dominos attempting to crush you and cyber sharks infesting the waters being two of them. Badniks in this zone take the form of game devices such as dice, and Egg Pawns would look like upperclass gentlemen with top hats and canes. Bizarrely, there would also be creepy neon Robotnik heads (think Sigma's final form in MMX2, but smaller) trying to eat you.

Going with the "Negative Lost World" feel, there would be a segment in which you have to solve a puzzle whilst repeatedly hopping on and off a fellow snake-like chap. But this is Robotnik's mechanical snake, so saying it's less than friendly would be an understatement. Unless you consider wacky Chain Chomp-esque chases friendly. In that case, I have just the fetish fansite just for you.

Speaking of which, water works the same as usual, but with the presence of the aforementioned cyber sharks (and you can't kill them, just like the beetle robot in Egg Quarters), you'd rather not be in there. It doesn't help that the underwater sections are just as dark and gloomy as above, being reminiscenet of the DKC3 underwater levels. And on top of that, no air bubbles. Because Robotnik finally got savvy and realised that having air bubbles in his base and trying to kill cute anthropomorphic creatures don't normally mix. (Still plenty of rings around though...)

Near the end, there'd be a section reminiscent of a hedge maze, only with thin metal walls, all with specific colours of the rainbow. The walls would be constantly moving at certain paces, speeds, and orders... mostly.

This would be a finale - or close-to-finale - zone, so the boss would have to be a grand one. I've not completely thought it out yet, but of course the arena would be a giant chess board, and of course there'd be giant pawn/knight/etc statues trying to kill you in various ways depending on which type it is. Robotnik, unsurprisingly, would be manning the king, and the board itself would also be determined to end Sonic/Tails/whoever, with flamethrowers, spiked pillars, and all other sorts of sneaky tricks.

There would then be a second part involving a colossal, Egg Emperor-like machine. And, just like in Sonic 1 & 2, both of them must be beaten without rings. Final battles should be David VS Goliath, not Goliath 1 VS Goliath 2. (...well, for me personally anyways...)

Also, for harmless cameo purposes, some of the giant statues would slightly resemble some of Robotnik's notable creations. For example. the pawns would look like a more medieval Johnny.

You know, the name and the level description might have fit really well in Unleashed, kinda like Eggmanland, but not Eggmanland.

Deadly Classroom Zone

I had idea for this zone back when I was in elementary school. Eggman somehow shrunk Sonic and trapped him inside school filled with mini versions of his robot and different deadly traps aka mini-spikes. Just imagine running on a blackboard, dodging gigantic pupils, sliding down stairs. jumping inside huge water pool!! Besides that's fresh concept. I don't think any Sonic game before used this idea.

You know, the name and the level description might have fit really well in Unleashed, kinda like Eggmanland, but not Eggmanland.

Maybe it's ROBOTNIKLAND THE ULTIMATE CITY OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHHOH!!!!

Robotnik Ruins

Basically, the Robotnik family's old massive mansion/castle built into the side of a massive mountain. The outside looks like an enormous ruined castle in the vain of Hang Castle, devastated by missle strikes by GUN to destroy evidence of it. Previously owned by Gerald Robotnik but abandoned since he was imprisoned and executed. Interior for the castle section are essentially in ruins. As you get deeper inside, you see fortifications that protected the remainder of the interior from the missile strikes by GUN. This area is the underground safe-house, intially designed for natural disaster but extended further into the mountain and repurposed into research labs, complete with easily visible (to the player) pictures of expedition locations, including maybe Hidden Palace being the largest and most prominent. Secret rooms and hallways with hidden collecitbles containing diary entries of Project Ark and Project Shadow and about Maria and her cure. Interior in the living quarters should resemble Mystic Mansion. The research areas should look like Aquatic Base, vast and empty and a cold blue colour scheme (like Aquatic Base) to give a sense of abadonment and isolation.

Act 1 takes place outside and Act 2 and/or 3 on the inside.

Very complex but spacious level design both on the inside and out. Easy to know where to go, but there should be pleny of routes and hidden passages and as mentioned earlier plenty of hidden areas with collectibles. In the abandoned research lab parts of the level there should be really large, easily visible 'photos' of locations visited on various research expeditions, maybe even one of the mural in Hidden Palace as mentioned earlier. Traps would pretty much be hazards you'd expect from a crumbling old mansion on the outside. The inside should have rusted prototype robots alongside a few Eggman bots.

Music should have a centralised theme of creepiness and lonliness/isolation, echoing piano. Contains a high-octave piano reprisal of the main 'theme' of "Supporting Me" which plays as the main backing music quietens and echoes eerily.

Act 1 would have a slower pace with not many references to "Supporting Me". Generally, castle-like music that's similar to Hang Castle #2, but made to sound a bit creepier and less thumping bass. Act 2 and/or 3 would be a bit more fast-paced and should sound similar to Aquatic base in terms of feel to the music.

Robotnik Ruins sounds good. Hmmhmmhmm, yes.

Sentiment Sanctuary Zone

Somehow, someway, Sonic's/Tails'/whoever's egg-beating adventures have brought them to a technicolor landscape that appears to manifest as emotions... on the outside it seems like nothing more than just a mesh of colours and ideas, but in reality, there is far more to it than even that. Exactly how does this place exist, and how does it work? Who made it? And what does Robotnik plan to do here? There's only one way to find out.

Unfortunately, as I just said, Robotnik is here, and his current plan involves something to do with it, so it's to be expected that he's "remodified" the place a little.

The idea is for this to work a little like End of the World, that in it's single act (yes, there's only one act, like Wing Fortress/Sky Sanctuary/etc), there are sections based on certain kinds of feelings, and you must jump, spin, and bust your way through each and every one of them (the emotions all being in seperate parts, incidentally, is Robotnik's work, and normally the place is more... "combined"). They each resemble "tunnels" like the water section in Kingdom Valley, only they come with their own thematics and traps, and are made with some sort of liquidy light energy rather than water. Also like EotW, the music would change depending on what part of the level it is you're in. Here's how it would go (maybe):

You start off on a single technicolor road along a black void. And I mean, black. As in, there is literally nothing apart from the road you're standing on, almost exactly like the SMK Rainbow Road. There is no music. Aside from a 1-Up at the very back, there's nothing here, so all you can do is march forward. Suddenly - inexplicably - a portal appears. It is in the shape of a phantom mask, and it looks like it's laughing. Jump in it.

The first sector would be based around fun and laughter, the tunnel being yellow. The scenery will remind you of zones like Toy Kingdom, Sweet Mountain and Music Plant, with many harmless and innocuous things to play around with. That is, if it weren't for the Badniks, which in this part take the form of things like bouncing balls, jack-in-the-boxes, ice cream, and more.

At the end, another one of those phantom mask portals appear, this time with a look of shock. Jump on in.

The second sector would be based around surprises and the unexpected, the tunnel being green. The scenery looks like it'd belong in Knuckles Chaotix, with the likes of clown and rubix cube Badniks on your tail as you guess what nonsensical metaphorical meaning this part is meant to secretly be about.

Yep, the end harbors a phantom mask portal. But rather than laughing or being shocked, this one looks puzzled.

The third sector would be based around confusion and mystery (sadly, I haven't thought of what colour could fit the tunnel that hasn't already been used). Despite still being in these "tunnels", this one feels slightly more subterranean, with things like crashed U.F.Os and dinosaur bones all over the place. The Badniks would include question marks and abstract paintings.

You'd be right if you suspected a phantom mask portal near the end. This one looks... rather mad.

The fourth sector would be based around anger and hatred, the tunnel being red. This is one of the most difficult parts, and it takes the form of a charred wasteland. Lava's erupting all over as if the place itself was sentient, and if that's not keeping you on your toes, the spontaneous earthquakes will. The Badniks would resemble rather creepy (but still Sonicy of course) and demonic creatures, and the place overall represents Robotnik's undying desire to see the primary source of 95% of his anxiety die a painful and humiliating death.

Can you tell what it is yet? Yep, phantom mask portal, now with a look that implies it would have lost all colour in it's face if it wasn't already pale to begin with

The fifth sector would be based around fear and frights, the tunnel being purple. This isn't messing around with it's idea of fears. The ghosts may be robots as well, but they sure are convincing. But it's not just all about the paranormal, as there's also more traditional "fears" - heights, for example. And don't forget the Badniks, which have been kind enough to look like such things as giant spiders just for you.

Oh hey, it's Mephiles! Just kidding, it's only another phantom mask portal. But this one... well, you can't help but feel sorry for it a little...

The penultimate sector would be based around sadness and despair, the tunnel being dark blue. You appear to be in a graveyard... all sporting the names of Sonic characters old and new on the tombstones. This is of course one of Robotnik's petty attempts at playing with the player character's own emotions, but you'll be having none of that. The snow is gently falling from the foggy sky, and despite all the crying teddy bear and teardrop Badniks rampaging around, the whole place feels abandoned.

What ho, phantom mask portal! This one's thankfully far more humble looking than his previous peers.

The final sector would be based around happiness and joy, the tunnel being cyan. To put it simply, it's a giant goddamn flower field, just like in Mother 3 or Paper Mario. There may be a few flower-themed Badniks hiding within in an attempt to ambush you, but this is the easiest part in the whole zone. Enjoy the scenery, enjoy the music, just enjoy yourself... but you will eventually have to make it out obviously.

After this, one final mask portal awaits. But this one has a moustache, is grinning, and has a somewhat Roosevelt-esque appearance. Wonder why.

You're back at the technicolor road in the black void. The music has stopped, and once again, all you can do is run, run, and run some more, as you spot Robotnik's core within this domain in the distance.

The penultimate boss before fighting Robotnik would be the Tails Doll, in an attempt to make him actually worthy of praise. As with Monochrome Maze, I don't have a clear idea just yet, but it'd probably take a few cues from Arkham-Scarecrow.

(Cant think of a name, I'm open to suggestions though)

The zone is actually inspired by World 6 from New Super Mario Bros. Wii. it's the zone with the grey mountains. Think of that but over water and there you go! It sounds pretty dull, but I picture it pretty nicely. It isn't high in the sky like NSMBW, it is generally low to the water level. This adds for water running sections.

The first act doesn't do anything fancy. It is very shady and a sky cluttered with clouds. Act two on the other hand is during a rainstorm. It has allot of ground that is on sea level, or collapses down to it! Rocks break all around and you occasionaly enter a cave depending on what route you use. The third act has a bright sky, and the sun is shining. In addition to the rocky landscapes there are some small grass areas, though very few (To keep the same feeling of the zone).

Bubbly Panic Zone

This level takes place inside of Eggman's personal washing machine, and yes this level concept is partially inspired by Super Monkey Ball 2's

The story that would go along with this zone would be that Eggman has ingeniously shrunken his speedy blue nemasis and sealed him in a small capsule. So afterwards he returns to his base, and freshens up for the day that he would finally destroy his nemesis, so in front of a stadium filled with various of his robotic creations from throughout the years, he presents to them the destruction of Sonic the Hedgehog, in the form of a machine specifically made to crush him and the capsule he was trapped in. Though when he reaches in his pocket to retrieve the hog of the hour, he soon realizes that he literally left Sonic in his other pair of pants, and the screen fades and the level begins...

The level starts out with a minor scene of Orbot and Cubot loading the washing machine with several Eggman outfits, and the camera will soon zoom in on Sonic falling out of the pocket of one of them and the gameplay beginning. It starts off with a small free fall section mainly for ring collection, and once Sonic hits the water the capsule splits in half, thus allowing Sonic to jump out and run across the platforms formed by various pieces of Eggman's attire. The level has 3 basic parts to it:

The first part focuses on the water level rising as the washing machine fills up with water. Here it's basically a mad dash to get as high as possible (impossible to reach the top) before being caught underwater. Though luckily for you there is plenty of oxygen caught inside of Eggman's clothing to keep you safe for quite some time. Also as the water rises, Eggman's clothing and items from his pocket will begin to form various layers throughout the machine, which happen to be a key factor in the level.

The second part focuses on the actual washing stage of a washing machine, where the water begins to churn, causing both the platforms and the water current to shift about, thus creating several different paths every minute and making the stage geometry a bit more unpredictable. Plus other small items such as pens, bolts, screws, and what not could also be floating through the water , possibly being used as extra platforms or grind rails to help Sonic get through (as well as not injestible bubbles for an extra boost upward). Though your goal still stands that you must get to the highest level of the clothing as possible, though being at a low level will not really hinder you until later on

The third and final part involves the spin cycle, in which the clothing will clinge to the walls of the machine as they begin swirling around at blistering speeds. Thus creating more stable platforms, rails, and so on, though at the same time Sonic will also be slowed down by the force of the spin. Also the time for the spin cycle is not infinite, and as the spinning begins to end, the clothes will drop down to the bottom of the machine, crushing Sonic if he is on anything but the top level (insta death, will bring you back to your latest check point and automatically reset to the beginning of the spin cycle). Due to this, there are three possible ways to finish the level: 1. If you reach the top before the spin cycle ends, Sonic will grab a pair of Eggman's underwear and use the wind created by the machine's spin to fly into the air towards the goal ring (on the thingy in the center of a washing machine). 2. If you finish after the spin cycle has ended, you'll find a convenient spring in the place where the stray piece of underwear should have been (though its now resting on a mound of clothing near by) and you'll bounce your way over to the goal ring as the machine puts on a fantastic show of dancing water as the light above creates a variety of colors in them. and 3. A combination of the two, that occurs when you reach the piece of underwear as the spin cycle begins to end, s it doesn't make it all the way to the goal, and you end up dropping back to the pile of clothes and the spring.

As for the main enemies, I 'd say they could use near microscopic badniks specially made in Eggman's secret laundry detergent formula, will use various sanitation equipment such as sprays and sponges for attacks, and come in various forms such as Scrub Pawns, or Klagen like robots with scrub brushes at the ends of their tentacles.

And finally, the boss could be Orbot & Cubot, though due to Sonic's minuscule stature, they turn out to be far greater enemies than they would be when Sonic is at normal height

Roman Emporium Zone (Modern Style Zone with 2D and 3D elements)

Set in a desert, Sonic will first encounter many ruins and pillars that have fallen apart. In the distance he will spot a Colosseum. Snake like enemies will burst out from under the sand and try to land on Sonic upon there re-entry. Around the middle of the stage he will enter the colosseum.

Although this idea was used in Sonic Riders and Sonic 06, In this level he will actually run round the indoor passage ways quick stepping to dodge Pillars and walls. After this he will emerge into the centre of the Colosseum where he will be greeted by one of Eggmans creations. A huge mechanical gladiator.

The Gladiator will swing his sword in a circle around the Colosseum (Much like the heavy mechs in Final Fortress) and Sonic must outrun and jump/slide when it comes too close. The Gladiator will eventually become dizzy and fall to the ground allowing you to attack his head (Again like the heavy mechs in FF) after repeating this a few times the Gladiator will plunge his sword into the ground and the ground will slowly start revolving and turning into quick sand.

Sonic must run back through the passages as the Colosseum starts to implode and slowly get sucked into the quick sand. Sonic gets to the top of the Colosseum and jumps on a spring to send him shooting away from the scene. The camera will turn backwards and show the Colosseum turning into nothing but rubble. He will then fall down to the goal ring.

This may be more of a Boss Stage then an actuall full level but I thought it was a cool idea smile.png

Name: Zooland

Trope: Amuesment park/Savannah/Jungle/Underwater

Act 1: sonic runs under a huge glowing welcome sign then enters a jungle like area. This area of the zoo is similar to past jungle levels such as Green Forest, Lost Jungle, and Tropical Jungle. The animals you will see in the back ground are a troop of Gorillas making their way through the jungle, leopards sleeping in the trees, tigers eating their meat, and lemurs swinging on vines. You can also see visitors to the zoo in the background taking pictures of the animals and you as you blast through the jungle at high speeds. The giant jungle exhibit also has some large artificial ruins. The enemies of this level are coconuts, buzz bomber, newtron, Slicer, and Egg Pawns that look like tribesmen who will jab at sonic with their spears if he gets to close.

Act 2: Act 2 is a huge savannah like level. The level starts off with sonic running from a stampede of wildebeests. When sonic eventually escapes from the stampede, he then comes across a large river where a herd of hippos are resting. Sonic can bounce on the hippos like springs to avoid going underwater, but if he does go underwater there will be some crocodile badniks waiting for him. During the river section, you can see Elephants and zebras drinking water. When sonic gets past the river section, he will then get to the plains section of the level. There he will be able to briefly grind on the necks of Giraffes and see lions on rocks roaring in the background. The enemies in this level are crocodile badniks, motobugs, and egg pawns dressed as safari tour guides who will attack sonic with whips if he gets close.

Act 3: Act 3 Is a giant marine park. The level starts off with sonic going down a large water slide and into the enormous fish tank. There sonic will then get chased by a giant great white shark. After he escapes the shark, he will then have to run through an underwater paradise, with coral reef loops, tourist blasting through underwater slides in the background, and docile sea turtles that will help you to the surface, but be careful! Jawz, Jaws, Aquis, and Asteron will try and do everything in their power to make things miserable for you beneath the surface.

On the surface you will see dolphins jumping out of the water in the background. There are golden platforms of the surface that have egg pawns dressed as whale trainers you see at sea world. They will slap sonic with giant fish if he gets close. There is also a large palace in the back ground with a beach, but it is actually a water park for tourists.

In the final part of the level, sonic has to go underwater yet again, but then he gets chased by a pod of orcas. But when sonic gets to the end of his running path, one of the orcas flings him over a wall with it's tail. Sonic then lands straight onto a goal ring in the middle of a stadium filled with cheering people. During the results screen, the orcas that chased sonic will slide onto the podium with sonic and strike a pose.

Boss: Egg Lion. Similar to the egg Cerberus boss.

Music:

Act 1: A remix of aquatic ruins

Act 2: Waka Waka by Shakira

Act 3: The Child inside by Qkumba Zoo

Factory Farmland Zone.

It's exactly as the name implies! You're running on a farmland with tons of grass and cultivation fields. Of course, there's platforming, obstacles and enemies- in fact, this is a farm built by Eggman, so there's a factory and there are all sorts of traps, and the animals are all robots! Badniks include bulls, which charge at you, chickens, which jump and glide at you, horses, which try to trample you, a herd of sheep who can temporarily make you fall asleep (tapping a button will help Sonic wake up faster) so that it can ram you like a goat, and there's even a "hive" of bee robots with a powerful sting- though they can only sting you once, and after that they'll blow up! There's also Egg pawn farmers wearing farmer hats, using pitchforks, shovels and hoes as weapons!

The stage itself involves/includes gimmicks such as the previously mentioned cultivation fields, which slow Sonic down due to the unique, sticky plants which grow in them, and tractors which Sonic must jump on and spindash on to activate them, so that they'll bust down walls or other barricades such as fences! Each act progresses through the farmland, with Act 1 starting at the gate of the farm, leading to the wide open farmland field. Act 2 brings you to a greenhouse with lots of plants, which ends with a horse-racing track, where you have to beat a finely-tuned horse robot to the finish line! Act 3 brings you inside of a huge barn, which is actually a robot factory in disguise! At the end of it, you're met by Dr. Eggman, who has now built a robot known as the Egg Bulldozer, and as its name implies, is Eggman's Eggmobile built into a bulldozer machine! It'll try to ram into you! On its final hit, it'll attempt to completely flatten you, and if it succeeds, you die even with rings since crushing damage ignores rings (and even super/hyper forms).

Cinema Studio

Act 1: Act 1 starts off with sonic running through the opening gates of a movie studio. He then starts running along a street with stars on it that have the names of certain celebrities such as Ryan Drummond, Jaleel White, or Jason Griffith. Sonic then jumps off a ramp and lands in a city that is the set of the movie E-Morphers. This part of the level parodies movies like fast and the furious, Transformers, and various other Micheal Bay films. As soon as sonic starts running through the city, you'll hear a director scream "ACTION!". Then sonic takes off through the highways of the city and soon stunt cars race by his side with police motobugs that have machine guns on their shells not to far behind. After you escape the moto bugs, sonic will then run across the rooftops of buildings while avoiding jets and helicopters that shoot missiles at you. Sonic will then jump off the buildings and run through a highway, but soon a giant army vehicle will chase after him and it turns into a giant 30 ft tall robot! Sonic now has to outrun the robot and make it to the goal ring.

Act 2: The set in this part of the studio pays homage to Lord of the Rings and some Disney movies such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Looks a little bit similar to Sylvania Castle and Kingdom Valley

Act 3: This set in the studio pays homage to star wars. Has gravity gimmicks to accompany the space setting.

Hallucination Highway Zone

Eggman gasses Sonic, who must make his way through his own mind.

I was thinking along the lines of this level from this SpongeBob game, as far as the setpieces:

I had the idea for one section to be a giant chilidog that Sonic has to run along, while dodging falling saliva drops as a giant Sonic tries to eat him:

UWQXG.png

The boss of the level would be a giant Robotnik (not Eggman because I can't draw him) trying to use a chicken leg/drumstick to knock Sonic off of a giant Chaos Emerald:

MzgGo.png

There would be more to it, like the giant shoe seen in the first picture, but I just wanted to draw this stuff. The music would be really fast but psychadelicican'tfuckingspell.

Deep Trench Zone

Sonic (or whoever else is playable) was in pursuit of Eggman's submarine, let's call it The Egg Whale for now, in a little submarine of his own (probably made by Tails). However The Egg Whale shoots down the submarine with missiles but Sonic manages to jump out before the explosion. Sonic then lands firmly on the sea-floor below him and begins running towards The Egg Whale.

Act 1 will be filled with colourful illuminant flora and coral. As it's a complete underwater level Sonic will need to somehow breathe to keep him alive. The submarine he tried to pursuit The Egg Whale with has a breathing device which Sonic takes with him when escaping the submarine. The act will become darker as the stage progresses, as The Egg Whale goes deeper into the Sea Trench to try and ditch Sonic. Common enemies include various Sea Life. Fish will home in on Sonic but can easily be avoided or defeated. Puffer-fish will become covered in spikes which Sonic can not harm in any way possible. It will puff up after a few seconds of seeing Sonic so you have enough time to attack the foe before it puffs up. Sea Turtles roam above the Sea Floor but will not harm you. You can harm them but they will only goes back into their shells. While this happens Sonic can use the Shell as a platform to reach higher areas.

Act 2 will be alot more gimmickier. The Egg Whale will now start launching troops to attack Sonic in the Trench. These troops contain Egg Eels. Robotic Electric Eels which cast an invincible shield of lightning around itself for a few seconds. Egg Plankton, A swarm of tiny robots which all attack together. They can not be destroyed but they are slow so Sonic can easily evade them.

Act 2's main gimmick is it's lack of light. Visibility is hindered in this level so this is a level designed for the player to be a lot more careful than usual. As this level is all underwater it'll in fact help the player with timing jumps and obstacles.

Sonic will have only a small area of visibility around him. Rings too will have some area of visibility surrounding them. The enemies can be destroyed however it is not encouraged to, as the enemies provide an area of light around them too. Some obstacles to get to higher areas could involve Sonic destroying three Egg Eels in a row and landing on the platform above. If you succeed, good on you, move on, but if you destroy all three and miss the platform by mistake you'll find yourself at the bottom again with barely any light. To help tremendously with the light problem, Electric Shield will light up the majority of the screen, however the shields are uncommon in the Zone.

Act 3 will feature a rather eerie moment at the beginning. There is almost no light. There are no obstacles, no enemies, not even any music playing. It's nothing but Sonic running forward towards the darkness ahead of him. As Sonic progresses through the stage the area of visibility slowly decreases eventually to nothing. It is almost pitch black on screen. However Sonic continues to progress. After a few seconds a small light appears. As Sonic progresses the light gets bigger and brighter, revealing at the end is a Treasure Chest with and very bright light above is. Sonic jumps on the Treasure Chest, breaking it, and Rings explode out of the Chest. However the area of light surrounding the rings reveals that the light was a part of the Zone's Boss, The Egg Angler.

Once again this is a test of visibility. Rings are scattered throughout the stage, you can pick them up but you'll take the visibility surrounding them too. The Egg Angler too will have light surrounding it's attacks so you will still be able to see when it is attacking you. The Egg Angler will float above Sonic's jump reach.

One of The Egg Angler's attacks involves a target following Sonic for a few seconds then locking on him and shooting the light at Sonic. When the light impacts the ground it will discharge a small area of electricity around it. If it misses Sonic then he can run up the tether from the light to The Egg Angler and hit Eggman.

Another attack involves The Egg Angler Going deeper to fire Torpedoes at Sonic. These Torpedoes are fast but only travel in a straight line. Once fired The Egg Angler will pause for a few seconds which gives Sonic another chance to attack.

Once The Egg Angler is defeated Dr Eggman will try and escape back to The Egg Whale This does lead Sonic out of the Trenches. Dr Eggman appear to be goes a lot faster than Sonic but a friendly Sea Turtle appears. Sonic jumps on it's back and the turtle swims Sonic towards The Egg Whale at great speed.
