  1. Some new information about Sonic Heroes' storyline has been unveiled in a new Japanese gaming magazine. Thanks to Nintendo Dream, we now know why each of the teams in the game are trying to stop Eggman from taking over the world, as well as the name of a brand new Chao character. The magazine article includes five new screenshots of the game in action, too. Sonic HQ forum user manaita has translated the text to reveal the basic storylines behind each Sonic Heroes team. Team Sonic, for example, receives a letter from Eggman threatening to conquer the world with a new weapon. Sonic accepts the challenge and runs to danger. Eggman's letter reads: For Team Rose, Amy sees a photo of Sonic in a newspaper and decides to follow him, but Big and Cream are also looking for their friends. Big the Cat, of course, is looking for Froggy, and Cream is looking for the older brother of Cheese the Chao. 'Manaita' later revealed that the brother's name was called Chocolate. As for Team Dark, Rouge enters Eggman's base and discovers Shadow in a containment chamber. Shadow has lost his memories, and he teams up with Rouge and a robot called Omega who also holds a grudge against Eggman. So they go after the mad scientist for revenge. Finally, Team Chaotix are a detective agency in this game, and "receive any request if there is an ample reward." A suspicious caller send a package with a request to complete a job. Although the request was anonymous, there was a big reward offered, so Vector, Espio and Charmy accept. Literally Dollar signs in their eyes. Now we know the main stories behind all the characters, hopefully we get to learn more about the journeys each team takes along the way soon as well. Via Sonic HQ / South Island Forum
  2. Sonic Team's Yuji Naka and Takashi Iizuka sat down for an interview with the official Xbox website at E3 2003, and revealed some more details about how the different teams in Sonic Heroes will play - including how each set of characters will have their own storylines in the game as well. The game's director, Iizuka, said that Sonic Team intentionally only showed gameplay of the Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails and Knuckles) at E3 to focus attention on the action side of the game. But when you play as the other Teams, each will have their own play style. Iizuka-san also talked about the game's overall story, and how each Team's adventure crosses over with one another: Iizuka was very keen to stress the importance of gamer choice in Sonic Heroes as well - not just in terms of choosing your Team but in choosing your path during levels and deciding which character skill you want to rely on the most. Finally, Iizuka was asked about the Xbox itself and he said, "through 12 years of Sonic history, our themes have been speed and cool gameplay. The Xbox is a very high-performance console. I would like Xbox users who have never experienced Sonic to experience two things: the speed, and the cool comfortable feeling you get when you really catch [how to play] the game." Naka-san, for his part, talked mostly about the Sonic franchise as a whole, saying, "we want to make this year the year of Sonic... For Sonic's twelfth anniversary, we've decided to release an animated series and a new game. We really want to extend our audience for Sonic to the Xbox and multiple platforms."
