Every main anniversary Sonic has had in recent years has been commemorated with some form of limited collectible figurine, and now First 4 Figures is asking us for ideas for what the all-important 25th anniversary piece should be.
The company reached out on Facebook asking fans for ideas and suggestions for what the should be implemented into the 25th anniversary statue:
So… About that 25th anniversary of Sonic.
The F4F ‘veterans’ amongst you will remember that SEGA commissioned us to produce a run of limited figurines for the 20th anniversary nearly 5 years ago, and now our creative cogs are turning once again for next year.
What would your ideal 25th anniversary statue look like? Throw your ideas/wish lists our way! There’s only a few things you need to keep in mind:
-Classic Sonic is to be the main focus, but don’t let that stop you from including other things from his history such as classic items.
-The statue needs to be as all-encompassing as possible
Unlike last time, SEGA will allow us to sell these to Sonic fans the world over, so let’s hear you!
My favourite part of this: We’ll actually be able to buy this one without having to pay small fortunes on eBay! Hurray!
Interestingly, First 4 Figures has requested to keep this piece as a Classic Sonic focussed piece… Interesting.
SEGA has just shared the above image on their official SEGA and Sonic Facebook pages along with the message “Get ready for the ultimate challenge!”. The teaser suggests the publisher could soon be announcing that Shadow the Hedgehog will be appearing in iOS title Sonic Dash in some form. Whether he’ll be playable or not, though, is anyone’s guess. We’ll update you when more is revealed.
SEGA has this evening opened a Facebook tab for all things Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on their official Sonic the Hedgehog Facebook page. It appears this will be in place of an official website for the game, as Sumo Digital confirmed a while back on the SSMB that their won’t be an official site this time. The Facebook tab has all of the features of a game website such as trailers, screenshots, features etc, but right now there isn’t anything new. We’ll keep our eyes open for any updates in the run up to launch, though.
Something we did notice is a SEGA rep answering fans questioning why Sonic is in vehicles and thought we would share it with you.
Now can we put an end to this question at long last, please? Pretty please?
The official Sonic the Hedgehog Facebook page has gained over two million fans, and as a thank you, SEGA has released two never-before-seen sketches of Classic and Modern Sonic, which are drawn by their original artists Naoto Oshima and Yuji Uekawa. You can view them in our gallery below.
There’s good news tonight for Sonic fans going to this year’s Gamescom event, with the announcement that Takashi Iizuka will be attending. The Sonic Team head disclosed the news of his attendance just 4 hours ago on his Facebook page with the short message you see below.
I’m going to Germany for Gamescom!
Iizuka has been very busy attending events around the world all year celebrating Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary and it doesn’t look like he’s going to stop anytime soon. We told you last week that SEGA will be going to Gamescom and will be designing their booth in the style of Green Hill Zone from the first Sonic the Hedgehog game on Mega Drive/Genesis. Attendees will be able to go hands-on with both console and handheld versions of Sonic Generations and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games at the event, too.
Now we have to wonder if Iizuka is attending just to help SEGA with the Sonic 20th Anniversary celebrations and to do the usual interview rounds, or does he have some Sonic announcements to make? I guess we’ll find out this week.
Gamescom will run from 17th-21st August at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany.
SEGA’s RubyEclipse said yesterday that more questions and information regarding the new PS3 and Xbox 360 Sonic title were on the way to the official Sonic Facebook page, and today the page updated with one of those things; a question. A poll is now available at the page for you to take part in asking “Which version of Sonic is your favourite?”, with the answers “Classic Sonic” and “Modern Sonic” to pick from. Whether this poll is just for fun or will hold a significance to the game or anything else in Sonic’s future is unclear, but whatever it’s for, Classic Sonic currently has a very large lead of about 4,500 votes over Modern Sonic.
The day everyone’s been waiting for is here. SEGA’s just posted their much anticipated trailer on the official Sonic Facebook page and it’s one that will please classic and modern Sonic fans alike. The trailer is for a new game that will launch in 2011 on Xbox 360 and PS3, but what the game is called is currently unknown. No gameplay footage is shown in the new video, but we do see plenty of CG animation of Sonic in both classic and modern forms running around what looks like Green Hill Zone from Sonic’s first outing on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis. Could the rumours about old zones returning be true? We’ll keep tabs on this exciting new game and bring you new details as soon as they’re released.
UPDATE: SEGA’s revealed via their Twitter account that the trailer will hit the official Sonic Facebook page tomorrow at 14:00 BST / 6:00 am PST. Thanks to Shaddix Croft at the SSMB for the heads up! /UPDATE END
SEGA’s just made another post on their official Sonic Facebook wall, which brings news that a new trailer will be hitting the page tomorrow. What this trailer is of though is anyone’s guess for now.
The post reads:
BRAND NEW TRAILER COMING TOMORROW ONLY ON SONIC’S FACEBOOK! Be sure to come back tomorrow to check it out!
Could it be a new game? An event? We’ll keep an eye open tomorrow and report back.
SEGA has made two posts on their official Sonic the Hedgehog Facebook wall this afternoon informing Sonic fans that news is on the way. One post teases that “something big” will be coming to the page this week and the other says SEGA will start celebrating Sonic’s 20th Anniversary this Thursday April 7th. Rumours at Sonic Paradise state that a game called “Sonic Generations” is in the works according to a website domain registration and a snippet of a magazine interview.
We’ll keep an eye on the official Sonic Facebook wall and report back.
Thanks to Kjeldo and sonfan1984 at the SSMB for the heads up on both Facebook posts!
In amongst the influx of 20th Anniversary news, particularly surrounding music, it appears that we most certainly have not seen the last of reworkings of classic soundtracks, even after the announcement of a special edition of the Sonic Adventure Soundtrack! Tony Harnell, ex-TNT frontman and of course the legendary vocalist from “We Can” and “It Doesn’t Matter”, has confirmed via his facebook page that he will be shortly be visiting the studio to record a new version of the Sonic Adventure 2 track “Escape From The City”. Fans will no doubt be pleased by the prospect of hearing a reworked version of their favourite track, along with the prospect of what might further be in store!
If you haven’t added Tony’s new band Tony Harnell and the Mercury Train to your likes on your facebook account, head over there and show your support for one of our favourite singers – and check out his new material too (10,000 lovers is fantastic). Oh…and don’t forget to say that T-Bird sent you on his most recent status update, amongst telling him how excited you are about hearing the new version!
Looking forward to hearing the new version of Escape from the City? Hoping for any other remastered tracks? Let us know in the comments!
SEGA have updated the SEGA and Sonic Facebook pages with round 2 of the Project Needlemouse Challenge. Todays names to be cut off are Charmy and Chip, as revealed at the SEGA of America Blog and Sonic City Blognik. Today’s questions are below –
Sonic The Hedgehog The Needlemouse Challenge has arrived on Facebook! The trivia questions for today are: 1: What was the general name for the robot enemies in the early Sonic games? 2: 50 Rings is always nice, but 100 is even nicer – why so? 3: In Sonic 2 for the Genesis / Mega Drive, how many lives was a ‘continue’ worth?
We’ve just gotten word from Steve Lycett under his S0L tag that the staff behind the ASR Facebook page have got the wrong end of the stick, there is in in fact no custom vehicle option in the game.
That Custom Vehicle comment is a cock-up by whoever does the Facebook page, I can absolutely confirm that the game doesn’t support that feature, you’ll be seeing that vanish shortly. I’ll let AAUK double confirm this.
Beleive me, it would be a cool feature, but it’d take us another two years to add it!
SEGA have revealed via the Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing Facebook page that players will be able to make their own custom vehicles in the game but no details are revealed as to what extent you can customize or whether the feature is available on all five platforms.
We’ll update you when more information is made available.
If you’re a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog on Facebook, you can now vote in a new poll that may or may not determine the outcome of the next entry in the “Storybook Series” and the shameless gimmick that comes with it (that half of us will more than likely complain about 😉 ). Here are your options for this “just for fun” poll:
Greek Myths & Legends
Those who are on Facebook, but are not friends of Sonic should visit this link and “become a fan.” Not only will you get updates about Sonic from SEGA themselves, but you can vote in the poll above and chat with even more Sonic fans.
As for my opinion on the choices, horror could be the well along the lines of “Scooby Doo Meets Addams Family” from the old Scooby-Doo Movies or a playable version of a game with “Night of the Werehog” vibes. Film Noir would be all kinds of odd, in my opinion, as it’s not really a “setting,” but rather, a style of filmmaking that does not lend itself to action. Picturing Sonic and friends as the cast of The Big Sleep would certainly melt my brain. Western would be a fun setting to bounce about. Although, it probably comes with a six-shooter, so that choice is also a hesitant one. Sci-Fi and Greek Myths are fantasy settings, so like the two games that came before them, are more appropriate for the next Storybook game. That sutibleness is probably a good indication as to why they are the top two choices in the poll at this time. I can see it now: play Sonic as Gilgamesh and Shadow as Enkidu and try to take down the nasty Humbaba. The best part about the story of Gilgamesh is that Shadow, as Enkidu, dies. I’d pay to see that one.
That’s my two cents. We want to hear your takes on each of these settings! Sound off in the comment box.
EDIT: AAUK has informed us in the comments below that the three best wall posts on the poll’s page will win a bag full of SEGA goodies! Well, now you just have to go vote now. 😉
If you’re one of these hip, cool people who loiters on the Global Networking / Distraction from work site facebook, you can have yourself an opportunity to snag yourself a nice bit of SEGA Megadrive history. Many of you will know that SEGA have produced a limited run SEGA Megadrive Ultimate Collection LP, featuring 6 tracks from SEGA titles such as Ristar and Golden Axe (for those of you who are too young, an LP is one of those big black disc things that your Mums and Dads have at home in the dusty cabinet – usually featuring Barbera Streisand’s hits and ABBA Gold).
Anyway, if you fancy having a crack at winning one of these, for purely aesthetic purposes or not, head over to the SEGA facebook page, and vote in the current poll that is going: “What is your favourite SEGA Megadrive/Genesis series?” To increase your chances, let the peeps at SEGA know WHY the series is your favourite in the comment box.
If you’re reading this, you are now by law required to vote Sonic…not that he’ll need any help mind you…
SEGA have released quite a snazzy little teaser flash game for all of you people who just can’t wait to get your grubby little mittens on a copy of Sonic Chronicles at the end of this month!
Apparently, Sonic is having visions of his up-and-coming adventure, and the idea of the minigame is for you to help make sense of these premonitions to see who Sonic will meet, what items he will need etc… Confused? Yeah, it confused the heck out of me; it’s got to be played to be understood!!!
First off you need an account on a social networking site such Windows Live, facebook, myspace (the rest are listed on the site). I’ve stuck it on my facebook account. From there you can play a number of different puzzle games, as well as point and click games, from which you collect points to go up Bronze, Silver and Gold rankings. There’s also a “Dark” rank – wonder what that’s for! A more comprehensive explaination is given on the site itself:
As you go up ranks you’ll be rewarded with access to exclusive downloadable packs, which contain desktops, bebo and myspace skins, and instant messaging icons to show off to your mates. Not only that, there is a Chao Garden in which you can collect up to 20 different Chao, upon fulfilling specific criteria – such as having a friend grab the game from your social networking page!
A perfect solution for what looks to be a rainy weekend!
