Japanese pre-order bundles for Sonic X Shadow Generations bundle have been announced, and their contents will make you green with envy! Alongside the game itself, and various early purchase bonuses, you can grab a Collector's Edition that comes complete with an exclusive Shadow the Hedgehog 12cm figure bust, a Shoes keychain and an Art book.

Those who pre-order this hefty package now will also get a "Modern Sonic Legacy Skin" (which we assume to mean the Sonic Adventure classic skin that the Western release will also get) as well as a special sticker to promote the Sonic 3 movie. The Collector's Edition (only available for PS5 and Nintendo Switch) can be ordered from most Japanese retailers, but we've linked the Amazon JP pages above as you should be able to order internationally if you would like to import.

If the Collector's Edition is a little too pricey for your needs, Japanese retailer Ebten are also offering an alternative "DX Pack" that includes the above trinkets: a Shadow acrylic coaster, a themed mug (design TBC), an acrylic figure set and an awesome-looking Japanese print of Shadow in his recently-revealed winged form.

Unfortunately, at time of writing if you're keen on the DX Pack, you may have to wait a few days as Ebten announced that its parent group Kadokawa had been hit by a cyber attack and all of its sites are down for investigation (SEGA Japan has an official shop through Ebten, but the store itself is owned and operated by Kadokawa).

I already preordered the US version for Gerald's notebook but I hope I can find that statue secondhand for a decent price.

Will preordering the Collectors Edition still have the Gerald's Diary bonus? Because I'd really love to read that.

Also, DAMN you, SEGA. I REALLY was gonna try to hold out on buying this one and then you go and hit me with Shadow with wings and all this cool shit. "Next time I won't buy their games" said me, after Superstars. Oh how wrong and stupid I was.

Edit: It's already out of stock????

The JP Collector's Edition? Shouldn't be - check the links in the OP to Amazon JP, the links are to pre-order so there are no 'buy' buttons active. But there should be a pre-order one.

Maybe it's just for the PS5, I haven't tried it for NSwitch. But when I clicked on the PS5 preorder it said "check other listings as this item is currently out of stock". Maybe it's just an error.

Typically speaking, Ebten will also offer both as a "Collector's Edition plus DX Pack". This is what they be previously done for Frontiers, Superstars and Colours Ultimate. For any mad collectors out there, I highly recommend these packs. The goodies that they come with are always really special, particularly the wall scrolls. Keep your eyes peeled for when Ebten is back up to following their emergency maintenance.

FWIW, the DX Pack is just an extra assortment of items that gets thrown into the parcel. They don't come boxed up with the Collector's Edition.

Unfortunately, this is anything but new. SEGA have been doing these Asia-only special editions for a long time. You can always import, although that obviously means that you'll be waiting for longer to get the game and you'll be paying extra. SEGA America and Europe don't seem to be very interested in creating special packages anything close to what SEGA Japan does anymore. It's a real shame.

Does anyone know if this comes with the digital or physical version of the game? Unfortunately I would guess it's digital, since the notebook seems to be absent, but I can't tell.

It's the physical game, not a digital one. Gerald's notebook appears not to be part of the Japanese release.

I'll be in Japan a few months after it drops. Hopefully there's enough supply for me to pick up a box.

Can't say for sure right now obviously, but in the past it's usually come with the game. IIRC I imported a copy of Sonic Toon (Boom) Fire & Ice JP on 3DS that was a DX Pack and it came with the game + acrylic figures and a bunch of other stuff.

Do I need to use a proxy service to get it?😭😿

Amazon Japan is usually very good, you can order it to deliver to you just like you would via a normal Amazon account. Just make sure to check your country/address is defined in the site header so that if you see a "pre-order" button, you know it's available for where you live. :)

If you want the Collector's Edition plus DX Pack from ebten, then yes you'll have to use a proxy service. I've done it for Colors Ultimate, Frontiers, Superstars, Origins Plus. Its costly, but I want my rare Sonic swag!

Someone on reddit said that the Japanese version comes with Gerald's notebook, but I've looked around many websites and haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on a JP store. So is this guy wrong, or is there a JP store that offers Gerald's book?

If anyone is interested, various editions can now be pre-ordered through Ebten's temporary setup on Chara-ani.com. You'll need to use a proxy service to get delivery outside of Japan, and I would recommend using Zen Market if you're interested.

The Collector's Edition and DX set are available as outlined in the OP, and as a collective package. But more interestingly, there's also an option to include laser-cut glass LED crystals; you can opt for Sonic, Shadow or even a double set of both. Only a concept image is available so far.

For the low, low price of ¥27819/£135/$172 (plus P&P), the most expensive package includes:

  • "Sonic x Shadow Generations" "Shadow" figure
  • "Sonic x Shadow Generations" shoe key chain
  • "Sonic x Shadow Generations" art book
  • Sumi-e Supersonic Hedgehog "Power of Darkness" Scroll-style Tapestry
  • Original mug
  • Acrylic coaster
  • Acrylic figure set
  • 3D Crystal (Sonic)
  • 3D Crystal (Shadow)
  • DLC "Modern Sonic Legacy Skin"
  • Special logo sticker for the movie "SONIC 3
