Surprise! A new set of Sonic the Hedgehog kids meal toys have found their way to select Burger King restaurants in Spain, suggesting that a new global promotion with the fast food chain is imminent. According to reports, the Spanish promotion will run from January 24th and feature five separate toys to collect.

Hungry and eagle-eyed Sonic fans in Spain have taken to social media to share photos of a promotion that has already begun in various Burger King outlets. The following image, shared by 'Tanillo', shows the full set of toys on offer - which seem to be a selection of interesting gadgets and puzzle blocks. Interestingly, the characters featured include Sonic, Tails and... Super Shadow, for some reason.

A report from Spanish YouTuber Yuluga confirms the promotion further, discovering imagery that points to a January 24 start date for the rollout. Popular Twitter account 'Tails Channel' also found a video that suggests a global push, although no specifics on countries or dates were given. Finally, various fans have managed to get a hold of some of the toys early, with 'EmmilyHatzu' sharing a photo of the Sonic head toy fresh in its bag.

Hopefully we'll see this promotion make its way to the UK and US very soon! If the international video is anything to go by, it's possible that we will see a formal reveal of this new series of toys via Burger King's social media accounts early next week. We'll keep you updated!

Something to note about this: In the ad, you can see electricity go around Sonic as he runs. This would mark the second (or third assuming it's in Prime, and fourth counting Colors Ultimate's Movie Pre-Order Bonus) time this element appeared in something outside of the Sonic Movie, it seems like they're really trying to incorporate it into the Modern Sonic branch, which I think is neat.

Wouldn't be surprised if they incorporate more Movie elements into it as time passes considering the popularity of the Movies.

That's odd. This doesn't even appear to be timed to promote anything in particular. Its just here for the brand awareness angle.

That's a different marketing strat then we've seen out of Sega in the past.

Also worth noting that both Sonic and Tails leap out of movie style Ring Portals. Not 100% original to the movie, but you gotta think that's the approach used for this animation.

I don't know who bothers with Fast Food restaurant toys anymore, i never seen my two nieces with them, it's something that became irrelevent after the mid-2000s i think?

Through i consider this an kind of tactic to take people's attention from the Mario Film maybe? i don't know if that Mcdonalds promotion has worked in the Mario Film's favor so far - reallly early to confuse film goers when they expect the film to came out

The Mario movie tie-in was likely solidified prior to the delay of the film. Deals like this can't change hence why Sonic Boom Fire & Ice had that uh.. was it Hardee's.. kids meal promo like a year before the game actually released. I think it's cool Sonic is getting more fast food deals with bigger brands but yeah I don't know of many kids who care much. When I worked in fast food, it was more the parents who cared to get whatever was supposed to be included, since they were paying and it was part of the meal so to speak.

But yeah I don't think there's inherently a rivalry going on here just probably part of a bigger push by Sega to make Sonic that household name again? They said something about that, right? Either way I think it's cool and tbh I wouldn't mind getting a Sonic fidget spinner lol
