I know that we often joke about how we should reign really creative writers especially if they are "auteurs" like Geroge Lucas or Quentin Tarantino. The question I have is, how much control should editors have writers to prevent them from going too far? I know that it might be more complex than that but what I want to know is how much control do they have over weiters?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23043116 The man was a great storyteller - I Am Legend (1954) to me remains the best, most original take on the Vampire genre. Matheson was a fantastic writer, a visionary even, so it stands to reason that I absolutely cannot recommend I Am Legend enough to anyone here who still hasn't read it. Probably closer to being a short story than a fully fledged novel, it's a truly compelling page-turner, and can arguably lay claim to being the father of all that followed in supernatural apocalypse films and books. A great debt is owed by so many authors and others to this man. All that said, I must admit that I did think that he had already died some time ago. I'm glad that he hadn't, except now he has... Rest in peace.
