Million Seller Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Gets Gamecube 'Players' Choice' Branding in the US
Andrew P posted a story in Games
It looks like Sonic has been performing very well on non-SEGA hardware! The blue blur's debut appearance on the Nintendo Gamecube, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, has entered the "Players' Choice" hall of fame after selling over a million copies on the system in the US. Because of this, there will be new packaging produced for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle that will highlight its popularity. It'll have the special 'Players' Choice' design on the case, and the price of the game will also be reduced. The new version will be $10 cheaper than the original Gamecube launch release. What do you think of this awesome achievement? Let us know in the comments section below.- 7 comments

Good news! Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog #127 is out now... if you live in Canada! For everyone else, you'll need to wait until tomorrow. But for fans who are based in Canada, go out now and buy that sucker! The information on the short delay comes from Diamond Comics, who sent out this notice: Don't worry guys, it's only a day. If you're keen on learning more about what Sonic #127 is all about, check out our older news story about it which has official solicitation and cover art for the new issue.

Toys & Figures New Classic Sonic Easter Assortment Figures Officially Available at Target
Dreadknux posted a topic in Merch
Jakks Pacific has announced that a new line of classic Sonic the Hedgehog figures are now on sale in Target stores across the US. The seasonal series features Classic Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Eggman, Amy and more in Easter wear and bright pastel colours. The set was originally leaked back in January thanks to a snafu on Target's own retail listing system (per Sonic City), and was actually spotted in stores as far back as February (thanks @Failinhearts!) but as we get closer to Easter it makes sense that Jakks decided to make their availability official. The lineup includes Sonic (with bunny ears), Tails (wearing a cute green top), Knuckles (who's gone Hyper for the occasion), Amy Rose, Dr. Eggman (both with snazzy seasonal outfits) and Pocky (with accessory egg basket). Reports from fans online suggest that the figures are available in-store at various Targets across the US, but currently there appears to be no way to order these online. We also have no idea if these will make it outside the US, so if you're in the UK like me you may be in for a bit of a wait (if they arrive at all). Check out the individual figures below, and let us know if you manage to get yourself a fig! Via Twitter Original Post Content: View full story -

Dubbing Fans Take to Letter Campaign in Protest of 4Kids' Sonic X Music
Dreadknux posted a story in Fandom
The first episode of the US version of Sonic X aired over the last weekend on Fox Box, and since then there's been some negative reaction from American fans over the dubbing and editing choices that localisation company 4Kids has made. Now, there is an organised plan from pockets of the fanbase to send feedback on the music choices in the anime. Many fans have compared the US Sonic X dub with the Japanese-language original, and found a number of significant audio and script changes. The biggest of these is the music, of which the Japanese soundtrack has apparently been replaced entirely with a set of music seemingly picked or produced by 4Kids. A Sonic HQ post links to a forum topic on MoogleMB about the campaign, and how fans should approach it. Kulock writes: You can read the text in full below, but the idea from Kulock and other fans is to make sure that the feedback is submitted to 4Kids in a professional and respectful manner, without resorting to insults or immature threats. Hopefully this campaign can get its voice heard and in a polite and respectful manner. We'll let you know how this goes. -
Ryan Drummond, Sonic the Hedgehog's video game voice actor since Sonic Adventure, has confirmed that he is not lending his talents to the English dub of Sonic X. On his official website, Drummond explains the reasons for this as a means to end any rumours about his involvement in the new show. It's a real shame, but not unexpected - voice files leaked ahead of the Episode 1 Fox Box premiere that suggested that Drummond was not the man behind Sonic this time around. It's now been fully confirmed that a new actor has taken his place. His full statement, found on his official website, can be found below.

Consoles Sonic's New Home, the Nintendo Gamecube, Gets A Price Drop
Andrew P posted a story in Sonic
This is one of those rare moments where I post non-Sonic news, but it might get some Sonic fans who have yet to buy the Gamecube to buy it. Nintendo has announced that it'll be dropping the price of the Gamecube from $150 to $99 next month in North America. As you may know already, since SEGA left the hardware console business, Sonic Team very quickly found a home on Nintendo's square console. It's the place to play almost all of Sonic the Hedgehog's adventures to date, with the release of Sonic Mega Collection and both Sonic Adventure games. So, if you're a Sonic fan and have yet to buy the console, go out and buy it now!- 10 comments

Voice Actors English Sonic X Voice Files Discovered - No Ryan Drummond?
Andrew P posted a story in Media
For those of you interested in knowing more about the voice acting cast for the US dub of Sonic X, it seems there's now a way to find out exactly what the characters sound like. Voice files for Sonic, Eggman, Amy and Tails appear to have leaked, and you can listen to them now. The voice files were posted, strangely enough, on the website of the Sam & Fuzzy web comic. Click here to listen to them - there are samples for Sonic and Eggman together, Eggman solo, and Amy and Tails together. Personally, after listening to them a few times, I wasn't very impressed with any of them. And it seems that Ryan Drummond isn't in fact the voice of Sonic this time, but we haven't heard any confirmation on that front as of yet. We'll let you know if we find out more. -
SNK discontinued their Neo Geo Pocket Color handheld a while back and had quite a bit unopened consoles and games in warehouses, so instead of letting them go to waste, they're re-releasing them in bundles. Below are the bundles, the second one includes Sonic Pocket Adventure. First Bundle: Console and six games (Pac-man, Turf Masters, King of Fighters R2, Samurai Showdown 2, Metal Slug First Mission, and Fatal Fury F-Contact) for $79.99. Second Bundle: Sonic Pocket Adventure and Puzzle Bobble, SNK vs. Capcom with Last Blade for $39.99. Get yourself a good bargain while you can!

Sneak Peek Sonic X 'Sneak Peek' is Entire First Episode, Airing August
Andrew P posted a story in Media
We have some more information on the supposed 'Sneak Peek' of Sonic X that we reported on earlier this week, and it's a very good surprise! Because the special preview on Fox Box airing on August 23 is in fact the entire first episode of the series! A synopsis of the first episode is below, courtesy of Animation Insider: Two other shows will be getting the same treatment on Fox Box; Funky Cops and Shaman King will all get similar Sneak Peeks throughout August. But it's Sonic X we all really care about, isn't it? Sonic X will start airing fully on Fox Box after the Sneak Peek from September 1. -
Fox Box has revealed that a special Sneak Peek of the US dub of Sonic X will air later this year, ahead of the Season Premiere of the series. The specific dates were published on the Fox Box website. The Sneak Peek will happen on August 23rd, and the Season Premiere will launch on Fox Box on September 6. Below is some detail from the site: Who's excited!?

If you don't have a copy of Sonic Adventure DX yet, and you live in the US, there's a good incentive to keep your eyes peeled to the Fox Box this weekend, as the channel is giving away copies of the game. As part of a promotion for Sonic X, which is coming this Autumn to the US kids' programming block, fans must enter a contest to be in with a chance of winning the Gamecube platformer. Viewers have to pay attention all morning during the block, watching all the programmes, and count the number of times Sonic runs across the screen. It's a pretty crafty way of getting kids to continually watch your channel, we have to admit. But if you want to take part, you need to submit your answer and info to the Fox Box website - 100 winners will receive a copy of SADX. Good luck! Via Sonic HQ

Everybody talks about how great the original Japanese/European soundtrack of Sonic CD is, but I actually prefer the American soundtrack and feel like it doesn't get the praise it deserves. The bad future themes are my favorites because they're so atmospheric and fitting for the settings. So, I've compiled all of the bad future themes from the American soundtrack, including both boss themes as well as the Game Over theme. I do not own Sonic CD or any of its music or imagery. Sonic is owned by Sega. This compilation qualifies as Fair Use. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoAkeIDDZPw

Similar to his contemporaries, Sonic has explored some other genres other than usual platform games. While Sonic has been in most genres before, there are some genres that Sonic has yet to explore. What are those genres? And how do you think they could work with the Sonic universe?

To anyone out there that has a DC and a copy of phantasy star online, who wants to open a server and play online? If you already have a server and a team I would love to join as long as you don't feel like your absorbing me, I'd rather have a partnership, an equal exchange of energy.

I know Sonic has been portrayed differently in most media all over the world but I wonder if our cultural values and norms affect how he is portrayed?
-
You may or may not had heard this sentiment in regards to some Sonic games, they sentiment being that some games do not 'feel' a proper Sonic game. I know that how a game 'feels' is relative to to the player but I learned that there are some elements of the Sonic franchise that are immutable. The question I have is, what those elements that are immutable? And what is a Sonic game supposed to 'feel' like?

I don't know if this has been documented at all, but have there ever been comments/discussions by Japanese Sonic fans/developers on the Western redesigns of Eggman to Robotnik? I've always wondered what they thought of these different interpretations of the mustachioed madman. Also there's that SA1 concept art of Eggman that seemed to have some SatAM vibes; so its possible that some at SOJ must've seen these designs at some point. Any dug up or recent info would be appreciated!

I am sure most of us heard once in our lives, "This piece of Sonic media goes against Sonic's tone and style". With that said however what is Sonic's tone and style? What is about the rest of the non Sonic Team Sonic media that they fail to capture that style and tone?

Fan Game Mockups and Art In General (I do Accept Criticism)
davethesodaguy posted a topic in Fan Showcase
It's been a very long time since I posted something on the forum, and I really wanted to go back to the community, been kinda off for some time, just doing my stuff without a care in the world... From that time on, a lot of stuff happened... but... I'm posting this on the forum because last time posted it over here I got some heavy criticism, Not that that's a negative thing. In fact, I'd like to see what some people think of my latest abiliites and share their thoughts on my art and help me get better, simple as that. If you have something constructive or would just like to troll me or just ignore me, go ahead. It's more of a "asking for criticism because I got nowhere else to go but don't wanna be rude to the community for having no place else to take honest criticism" kinda thing. I'm pretty sure a lot of you know of my art and that's great... so... As usual... Enjoy- 2 replies
