  1. The first footage from Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 3 debuted behind closed doors at their Cinemacon panel earlier today. So far, they haven't released it publicly, but its contents have been described by press who attended the event. The trailer shows Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik in his lab. He's gained weight from binging carbohydrates, meaning cinematic Robotnik will finally get to be fat. Someone is quoted as saying "we found him," presumably referring to Shadow. The trailer also shows Robotnik recruiting Shadow, Shadow facing off against Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, and Sonic and Shadow fighting in the New York City skyline. Shadow also gets a motorbike. As of this writing, I'm still a little unsure how it all fits together, as these details are taken from multiple sources. Hopefully Paramount will show the footage soon. The sourced for this info can be found here, here, here, and here. No casting for Shadow was revealed, who apparently didn't talk in the trailer. Original Post Content: View full story

  3. Really feels like we can't go a few weeks without some sort of leak anymore. This latest leak involves the long-rumored Sonic Fall Guys-alike, Sonic Toy Racers, a multiplayer Sonic game being made for mobile devices. Sonic Youtuber "The Sonic Show" was able to get their hands on a Japanese trailer of the game and upload it, finally giving us our first proper look at it. You can check it out below: UPDATE [25 Mar 2024]: Since publication of this article, we have been granted permission from an anonymous source to share a 'clean' version of the leaked trailer without watermarks, alongside TailsChannel which originally sourced this rendition of the video. We have replaced the original Twitter embed from yesterday with this 'clean' version below. Check out Tails Channel's on-site report of this news here, too. The game was initially leaked by Midori, who stated that a "Fall Guys" Sonic game would be debuting this summer on iOS and Android. Further details leaked via Tails Channel and Inside Gaming, which confirmed that the game would have 32 players competing with each other as they ran through obstacle courses, with game types including racing to the finish, collect rings, and survival. The trailer itself seems to confirm some additional details, including cosmetic items (we can see a Sonic in a top hat) and Chao companions. The trailer also seems to show multiple currencies, including rings and blue gems, and there are different sections that appear to be for a store front, settings, chao and "premium," which is presumably connected to in-game purchases. Much like Fall Guys, players need to place at a certain threshold to quality for the next round, with thresholds of 16 and 8 shown. In addition to races, we can also see a red vs blue team mode, some sort of points-centric mode, and some sort of elimination mode that seems to involve a Death Egg Robot. Levels seen include Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Silent Forest, Lava Mountain, and Ocean Palace. A variety of enemies can be seen, including Aquarium Park's Egg Pawns, Buzz Bombers, and Motobugs. Finally, Midori has confirmed that this footage is beta footage. They confirmed to us that the footage was meant for internal use only, and was captured last summer, roughly a year ahead of its expected release. With the game expected to launch this summer, this means this footage was caught roughly a year away from its release. Midori reached out to us, and was able to confirm some additional details: The game is developed SEGA's Division 4, aka SEGA Networks, the same team responsible for SEGA Pocket Club Manager and are working on a "super game." Sonic Toys Party is meant to be a pillar mobile title that SEGA can use to experiment with mobile online games and other concepts. Could release in June or July Collaborations with SEGA and third party franchises are planned, including Saint Seiya and Persona. There have been multiple playtests in Japan and America since October. Cosmetics are a focus, and skins will be based around modern Sonic. The Chao are more than just cosmetic items, they also have helpful bobuses for players in the stages. With the game expected to release in the summer, we'll likely be getting more details soon. Stay tuned to Sonic Stadium for all the latest! Original Post Content: View full story

  5. SEGA has released brand new trailers for Sonic Heroes and Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, showcasing a whole new range of gameplay for both upcoming Sonic Team titles. The videos come from Gametrailers' "GT Vault", with the names "Sonic Heroes - Trailer 2" and "Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg - Trailer 3". The Sonic Heroes video in particular shows off all of the different team combinations and formations, including Chaotix and Team Rose. You can watch these two videos by going to the GT Vault website, links below: Sonic Heroes - Trailer 2 Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg - Trailer 3 Source: Gametrailers
  6. Sonic Adventure DX is releasing soon, and to celebrate SEGA of America has published a new video showing the game off on Nintendo's Gamecube. Watch it below. As you can see, there's a lot of action familiar to anyone who's played the Dreamcast original, but there's also some footage of the new Mission Mode along with a glimpse of the Game Gear games you'll be able to play. With this new trailer and IGN's recent dump of screenshots from the game, we can't be far away from the launch of the game in the US. Looks like there will be a lot of happy Sonic fans in the States this summer!
  7. If you needed another reason to get excited for SEGA HARDlight's upcoming Apple Arcade title, Sonic Dream Team, then why not check out this latest trailer for the game? It features an incredible animated intro directed by Tyson Hesse and produced by Powerhouse Animation, with music composed by Tee Lopes. The intro illustrates the slightly crazy premise of Sonic's new adventure - with the blue blur and his friends being pulled into a nightmarish dreamspace operated by Dr. Eggman. The villainous dictator is even seen morphing into various monsters and creatures as he tries to smush Sonic and pals to pieces. But wait! Cream, Cheese and new character Ariem appear to offer the Sonic Heroes some assistance! It's the usual top-drawer animation that we've come to expect from Hesse and his team, and this one certainly doesn't disappoint with vibrant colours and lots of character. Let us know what you think of the intro in the comments below! Sonic News Tips Credit: Thankful Gems Original Post Content: View full story

  9. Sonic Prime's third season will be launching on Netflix on 11th January 2024, offering a new slate of episodes continuing the blue blur's journey through the Shatterverse. During Netflix's Geeked Week Saturday Showcase earlier today, a new teaser from the upcoming third season was also shared, in which Sonic and Shadow team up to fight an evil robot that... kind of looks a little similar to both of them? Metal Sonic? Metal Shadow? Who knows? All we do know is that it leads to a rather killer battle sequence. It's all in aid to get to Tails Nine, who is leading the charge in this third chapter as the main antagonist of the series. Sonic and Shadow desperately need to reach the rogue variant of the two-tailed hero and help fix the crumbling Shatterverse before it's too late... Who's excited? Let us know in the comments section below!

  11. Netflix debuted a new trailer for what is, at the moment, the final batch of episodes of Sonic Prime (barring a renewal). In it, we get to see the results of Nine's betrayal, and where this whole thing is going: Green Hill is disintegrating, Nine is seeking to build a new world in The Grim, Sonic's trying to stabilize the shatter spaces, and there are new robot versions of some of Sonic's friends! Oh, and Shadow is there, since he has some how managed to get into the Grim himself. Check out screens from the trailer below: The trailer does have not have a release date beyond "coming soon," though it's probably safe to assume this thing isn't dropping in October. 13. Today's the day! Sonic Frontiers' third content expansion finally becomes available to all players at 5pm PT today (which is an eye-watering 1am tomorrow morning in the UK). Check out the new launch trailer that SEGA has released below! The trailer itself reveals Sonic issuing commands to Tails, Amy and Knuckles in order to help his plight on the Starfall Islands - the Chaos Emeralds appear to be the key, and it's up to the blue blur's pals to venture across the open zones to tackle new challenges. We don't need to be asking you guys if you're going to be playing it at all - I think I know you all are! So let's just spend the comments section getting relatively excited instead! REMEMBER: We will be plotting out some new Sonic Stadium Achievements to go with this new DLC pack, so once we've had a chance to play it, be on the lookout for some community challenges of your own right here! 15. SEGA has released a new trailer for the upcoming third DLC pack for Sonic Frontiers, in the form of a series of animated comic panels that highlight the expansion's new story and playable characters. The "Final Horizons" DLC was first teased last year as part of a series of free content developed to support the post-launch of Sonic Frontiers. In it, we can expect to be able to play as Knuckles, Tails and Amy Rose alongside Sonic as they face one last test on the Starfall Islands. UPDATE Sep/13: Here's the official description of the trailer, straight from the official Sonic the Hedgehog website: The official Sonic US social media channel also shared the following new promotional render for the Final Horizons DLC. Many thanks to @castell-neath and @ZinogreVoltfor sharing this new info. Rest of original story follows. The trailer does a great job of telling us the particular challenges that each character will encounter - both physically and mentally. It's also packed full of fantastic artwork, so definitely give it a watch. Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon will be releasing on September 28th.

  17. With April 8th rapidly approaching, Paramount has released their "Final Trailer" for Sonic 2, featuring loads of previously unseen footage, a super-powered Jim Carrey, and lots of Sonic vs. Knuckles action. The trailer links the previously shown scenes of Tom at the wedding in Hawaii, and Sonic snowboarding during an avalanche and robot attack. It's also the first major interaction we've seen between the speedy and headstrong Sonic and the serious and... astoundingly physically strong Knuckles. Tails still has minimal appearance, no dialog, and spends most of the trailer unconscious, so we don't yet have a sense of how the movie portrays his dynamic with Sonic. There's also slightly more pop culture references that will assuredly not age well, and a simple and direct game reference early on that will pique fans' interests. At the same time, a new movie poster has surfaced, featuring a recreation of the famous Sonic 2 North American and European box art (you'll notice Knuckles' reflection in the 2 itself). Leading up to this reveal, Paramount released two short trailers, including a March Madness-centered trailer titled "Madness," and a gag trailer they've pitched as the "Sonic Cut." And yeah, the "Sonic Cut" trailer is actually a series of one-frame shots with several gag images thrown in, including... With this new trailer, we finally have a stronger sense of what the movie will actually be about, a more thorough look at the owl temple that possibly links Sonic, Knuckles, and Long Claw, and further confirmation that the Master Emerald will play a central role. All that's left is the slightly-less-than-one-month wait until its release date! Thanks to Josiahblaze, Mr. Needlemouse and all the folks over at our news tips Discord channel!
  18. After the past few days of leaks around the edges, the official Sonic YouTube channel has revealed the trailer for Sonic Origins. The game will be released on June 23, and will hit all major platforms (Switch/PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Series X|S/Epic/Steam). Gematsu reports the game to launch at $39.99 for the standard edition, and $44.99 for Digital Deluxe (more on that below). UPDATE: The game's official website states that Spain, France, Germany, and Italy will be getting the game on the 12th whenever you change the language. Seems that all dates have been changed to June 23rd now. Thanks to alexizaki for the news tip! The trailer features gorgeous animation in a similar style to the Sonic Mania animated sequences and explicitly promising even more animation. The trailer also confirms the replacement of Lives with a "Medallion" system in the game's Anniversary mode (as you'll notice in the UI). The game will include features both within and beyond previous HD remakes of the games, such as the ability to play as Tails and Knuckles in other games (with the exception that Knuckles won't be in CD, per Famitsu), and the Hidden Palace boss from the Sonic 2 iOS/Android remake. Famitsu reports further special features in the game, such as a Boss Rush mode, a "Mirror Mode" that flips the entire stage left to right, a "story mode" (unclear if this just refers to the animation sequences, or if it actually connects the four games), a mission mode, a museum collection, and leaderboards. We don't know much about the Mission mode yet, however screenshots of it show off a menu with the Veg-O-Fortress from Sonic Spinball, and a screenshot of Knuckles in S&K's Death Egg Zone (which he normally does not appear in) with a unique level layout, a timer, and a letter grade. Following Sega's recent releases, Origins will have a "Digital Deluxe" version, which is set to include an additional 11 "hard" missions, 73 extra music tracks in the museum from other Genesis and 32X games, bonus menu animations, 10 Classic mode backgrounds for the letterbox, and an "Island Camera." Gematsu confirms these Digital Deluxe features will also be available as DLC under the "Premium Fun Pack" at $3.99, with further music tracks available via the "Premium & Classic Sound Pack" for $3.99. Pre-orders will also get a "Start Dash Pack" unlocking Mirror mode, a Mega Drive background for Classic mode, and 100 coins. Be sure to stay with us as further details unfold.
  19. If you were tapping your toe during the Sonic Origins trailer, then do I have good news for you! The Hyper Potions have released the full clean version of it to YouTube for your listening pleasure: This is the latest of many collaborations between SEGA and Hyper Potions, from the iconic "Friends" and "Time Trials" themes in Sonic Mania, to the theme of the Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania trailer, to multiple remixes in Team Sonic Racing. Many of their previous collaboration tracks are available on digital music storefronts such as Amazon and iTunes. Here's hoping this Origins theme joins the others soon!
  20. One fan project I’ve been quietly following for a while has been Team Sea3on’s fan-made third season of Sonic SatAM. I’ve long felt confident they’d eventually deliver something, as the Sonic SatAM community, while small, has been consistently delivering solid fan efforts for years, including the long running web comic this show is based on. Regardless, it’s pretty awesome finally getting to see what they’ve been working on, and as I’d hoped, it’s way past cool. What’s even cooler is who they got to sing Sonic SatAM’s iconic theme song, The Fastest Thing Alive: Crush 40’s Johnny Gioeli! You can check out the trailer, as well as a clean version of Gioeli’s song, below: For direct MP3/FLAC download of The Fastest Thing Alive, or for more information on the project and how to support it, or for the Season 3 web comic this is based on, head to their website here.
  21. Today’s Sonic Central gave us a look at another one of the game’s massive bosses, which is giving off serious Starlight Carnival vibes. This new boss appears to move through the environment, leaving a path made out of energy in its wake. Eventually the path becomes an arena. You can check out the 30 seconds of footage below:
  22. Somewhere among the many farming games, the 3000 hours of Persona games, and revisionist history PAC-MAN, we got a few more details on Sonic Frontiers during today's Nintendo Direct showcase. The Nintendo Partner Showcase featured about 20 seconds of new Sonic Frontiers footage, and our first look at the game's linear Cyber Space stages, a new character, and its general Switch performance. Image from Official Press Release While all of Sonic's combat tricks here had been revealed in previous videos, the absolute highlight was two of the game's Cyber Space stages, including a wild spaghetti-tangle of highways with glitched-out road signs, and the familiar Green Hill landscape (yes, internet, we all know you have strong opinions about where Green Hill is and isn't used, you don't need to remind us). Image from Official Press Release Sonic enters the stages via stone portals, and as the Summer Game Fest impressions state, they're in the format of forward-running boost-style platforming. In the Green Hill section, Sonic isn't beholden to his open world combat mechanics. One hit is enough to dispatch each of the Motobugs. The stages shown take place on an abstract geometric backdrop while wavy and twisted trails decorate the sky. The foreground is stylized with chromatic aberration in Green Hill and vertical scanlines in the highway environment. Upon leaving the level, Sonic is awarded a key. Image from YouTube Video We've also got our first... vaguely-story-related cutscene, introducing "Sage," a strange girl associated with Starfall Islands' overarching mystery. At the end of the footage, she's seen emanating a red "cyber" glow and hovering just above a geometric metal Palkia. Image from YouTube Video "Kronos Island," according to the official press release, is the first island of the game, and likely the one we've seen exclusively in the promotional footage thus far. Sonic arrives there upon escaping a cyberspace portal that engulfed him and his friends. Image from Official Press Release For those looking to get a glimpse of the game actually running on Switch (or within general Switch parameters), the compromises are in line with other open world games on the platform. Landscape fidelity drops at a bit closer distance, the visual effects are a little less flashy, and textures can be blurry up close. If Switch is your primary platform, these are the sacrifices that you've come to expect. The footage shown ran at 30fps in spite of the 60fps feed, but for better or worse, the same could be said about the majority of other titles in the Showcase. I'm hesitant to judge certain aspects of the visuals too harshly, since YouTube compression tends to add artifacting and blur, but if graphics are your priority over portability, just expect to go for the PS5, Series X, or PC versions regardless. Image from YouTube Video We have a number of screenshots throughout the article, differentiated between official press release shots, and those taken from the YouTube video. The press release shots were provided in 4K, so it's safe to assume they're not from the Switch version. Recent hands-on impressions vary wildly, from the absolutely positive to the utterly dire, and everything in between. Suffice to say this new footage will be controversial (as was the previous footage, and the footage before that), but we'll all be able to check the game out for ourselves when it launches this Winter.
  23. While not quite headlining the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation, Sonic was promised and delivered. The game is set to release on November 8 to all major platforms, and while we'll put together a full breakdown of details, features, and speculation later, you can catch the trailer now: The new trailer shows off the linear Sonic levels including Green Hill, Sky Sanctuary, and the new twisted road stage, as well as two new bioms of open world, desert and tropical beach. Dialog is light from Sonic himself, but the previously revealed Sage sets an intimidating tone as Sonic is unable to fight her. She sees Sonic as a threat and commands him to leave the islands; however, Sonic encounters a giant sphere holding Amy (and presumably his other friends) captive. The trailer also highlights the Koco, cute little stone creatures on the island that are absolutely cuter than Chao in my opinion and absolutely no one else's on staff. Frontiers is expected to be available for hands-on play at Gamescom, so be on the look out for impressions soon from your favorite game news sites (including us, hopefully!)
