The unofficial Sonic fact book “We Love Sonic!” is now being investiged by Carlton Publishing Group after fans noticed material was heavily plagiarized from fan art and fansites.
Eagle-eyed Badnik Mechanic Dave Luty on Twitter has spotted something amiss with an Unofficial Sonic the Hedgehog fact book “We Love Sonic”, set for release through Carlton Books this summer.
This is possibly proof that, unless your name is Tweaker or Scarred Sun, obtaining a Wiki script is about the worst thing that can happen to your Sonic website. SSMB eagles have noticed fansite “Sonic News Network” create a page dedicated to ‘Sonic Rush 3’. A page in which every single detail has been dreamed or fabricated. The Wiki has since been vandalised – an act that’s not cool no matter what the place (not only that but the vandaliser even gets confused in saying Rush Adventure is a spinoff – since when?) – but here’s what the original page stated:
Sonic Rush 3 (Sonic Rush Heroes) is a new Sonic video game that will be released nearly in 2009. It is a new Sequel of Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure. It says that Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Blaze the Cat, Marine the Raccoon, and the new character will be playable. Marine was pronounced to fly. Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega might appear in this game as villians. Sonic Nega and Blaze Nega also appear in the game. 6 characters will split into 2 teams. Like Sonic Heroes, you can change formations. Sonic and Blaze are speed types, Tails and Marine are fly types, and Knuckles and a new character are power type. Shadow the Hedgehog is a supporter for Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and Mighty the Armadillo is a supporter for Blaze, Marine, and the new character. Amy Rose, Rouge the Bat, and Vector the Crocodile (who only appear in Blaze’s story) are non-voiced characters. No further information available
I am of the belief that not even Takashi Iizuka could invent a game premise this poor. Move along people.
EDIT: Turns out Sonic Rush 3 isn’t the only page that has completely made-up information, including Sonic Rivals 3, Hornz the Fox, Berndette Hedgehog (who is apparently Queen Aleena’s sister but is somehow the mother of Sonic, Manic and Sonia [who is now male] as well) and – the best one – Pokemon & Sonic: Explorers of Time. Want a good laugh this afternoon?
In the last few days, third party behemoth Electronic Arts successfully acquired development studios Pandemic and BioWare. EA stated the reasons for the acquisition concerned the company’s attempts at creating more successful RPG and adventure titles.
News concerning most of the Sonic the Hedgehog fanbase is the involvement of BioWare – as many are aware, the developers of Mass Effect were reported to be creating a Sonic RPG exclusively for the Nintendo DS, in co-operation with SEGA. Continue reading BioWare Acquired by Electronic Arts
If you’ve been reading many gaming websites or magazines (here and here) lately, you’d be forgiven for thinking that SEGA/THQ and plenty of reputable magazines had confirmed a PC release of Sonic the Hedgehog 06.
Fan ‘theshadowofsonic’ wrote to SEGA Europe asking when the PC version may be released after realising it hadn’t hit store shelves. Both a Finnish magazine and Finnish store website had stated 28th Feb 2007 as the release date, with the former saying it was confirmed by SEGA.
The response received, as many SSMB’ers probably know by now, was as follows:
“I’m afraid that at this time there are no plans for a PC version of Sonic the Hedgehog. I have seen this advertised on a few sites but I’m afraid that the information is not accurate.” Continue reading Sonic ’06: PC Release Confusion
SEGA Europe has sensationally filed a lawsuit against humour website YTMND (You’re The Man Now Dog!) over jokes it contains involving Sonic the Hedgehog.
YTMND, for the uninitiated, is a website where users can create their own webpage consisting of only an image for a background and a voice clip as background music. Many trends are built on the back of this, where Star Trek’s ‘Epic Manoeuvres’ and Star Fox’s ‘Do A Barrel Roll’ being gags that has spawned countless YTMND joke pages.
The most popular of the Sonic jokes, a mickey take on the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon motto “That’s NO Good!”, involves editing the voice clip to include various random quotes from films and other cult references. Many different versions of this Sonic gag suggest furry rape or sex or some other kind of ‘NO Good!’ activity, which is likely the reason that SEGA have kicked off in such a way. I like to think that the Sega Sonic Message Board is good to all members here, in the fact that this place is a sanctuary for anyone to speak their mind about anything, be it Sonic, cheese or…. erm, stuff.
But, due to an event happening on another board (that I stopped going to, yet lurked for quite a bit…. rest assured I ain’t going back there anymore), something made my head whirr, and click something.
See, that board I visited claimed to be liberal, and it was, mostly. It offered freedom of speech, and one of it’s morals was to allow anyone the right to say what they want to, without getting lashed upon by other members. BUT, this principle turned on it’s head – as the supposedly liberal forum turned into an MB of arguments, as everyone had disagreeing thoughts with one another, and strong feelings that collided with each other’s own opinions.
Now, being only sliiiiightly involved (in backing a friend up), I come to check up on this place, and I see topics that are a bit…. well, ‘fanboy’-ee.
