One fan project I’ve been quietly following for awhile has been Team Sea3on’s fan-made third season of Sonic SatAM. I’ve long felt confident they’d eventually deliver something, as the Sonic SatAM community, while small, has been consistently delivering solid fan efforts for years, including the long running web comic this show is based on. Regardless, it’s pretty awesome finally getting to see what they’ve been working on, and as I’d hoped, it’s way past cool.
What’s even cooler is who they got to sing Sonic SatAM’s iconic theme song, The Fastest Thing Alive: Crush 40’s Johnny Gioeli! You can check out the trailer, as well as a clean version of Gioeli’s song, below:
For direct MP3/FLAC download of The Fastest Thing Alive, or for more information on the project and how to support it, or for the Season 3 web comic this is based on, head to their website here.
Back in the 90s, when Sonic was the newest, hottest video game property on the block, having a cartoon was always a telltale sign that a game series had truly made it. Mario had a series of them, Legend of Zelda had one, Earthworm Jim had one, and even Bubsy almosthad one.
It was all going so well. After releasing a couple of box sets in the US, DIC Entertainment has apparently told the SatAM fanbase that it is unable to release any more DVDs due to a refusal by SEGA to continue working with the license.
Ken Penders has revealed some more details on the Archie/SatAM-inspired Sonic the Hedgehog animation project he is reportedly working on. While the possibility of it being a third season of the SatAM cartoon was ruled out, Penders did let slip that he intends it to be a CGI feature film – one of several in fact – that will compare in quality to Pixar’s Monsters Inc.
Still feeling super-nostalgic for the 1993 Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon series? Well get ready, because it sounds like DiC is not quite done re-releasing the animation on DVD, with more box sets apparently on the way before the end of the year. A group of Sonic fans have started work on realising the long lost ‘third season’ of the SatAM cartoon series, by launching a comic called ‘Sea3on’. After a long hiatus after the release of Issue 2, the team behind the project has announced that its third issue is available for download. To celebrate the 100th issue of the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie comics, SEGA’s official web portal has written up a rather nice feature about the book’s history. Did you know that originally, the Sonic comic was meant to lean more heavily on Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog than the Saturday morning Sonic cartoon (SatAM)? More details have surfaced on the VHS and DVD home re-releases of Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) episodes. A pack containing four episodes will go on sale on February 26, 2002, according to Team Artail. The VHS will retail for $9.99 and the DVD for $14.99.
Well there’s a surprise! It looks like Amazon are selling old VHS tapes of the SatAM Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. They’re going for around $12 each, and there are only three to choose from, but if you’re needing an animated blue blur fix right now you can’t say fairer than this. Hooked on Sonics, Sonic Racer and Super Sonic are the three sets to choose from, check them out.
