Close your eyes and think back to a time when the console wars were coming to a close, Big Blue hit the 10 year mark, and SEGA had released their final bid in keeping the Dreamcast alive – Sonic Adventure 2.
Ooooor you could think back to a time when SEGA fell apart as a first party company, and then went on to port this game onto the Nintendo Gamecube as a third party developer – Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. Either or!
After a case of mistaken identity, wrongful arrest, escaping imprisonment, and breezing through the prison island’s metal harbour, Sonic breaks free into the military patrolled greenery and confronts the doppelgänger hedgehog behind his string of misfortunes. Enter Shadow, the Ultimate Lifeform.
Remember that particular clash? Where blows were finally being dealt, and words were being eaten? Now imagine it in high def.
Hypo, who first recreated the Giant Talking Egg scene from Sonic Adventure, gave the sequel’s Faker scene the Source Filmmaker treatment. Everything from the initial encounter to the brawl itself, as well as the aftermath, has been remastered for your viewing pleasure – perfect for a nostalgia fix!

Itching to see more of Sonic Adventure 2 HD in action? Well, hold on to your party hats, because the footage you’re about to see is absolutely brilliant!
Courtesy of SEGA of Japan (if the Japanese language and text weren’t a dead giveaway), a near 3 minute montage went online yesterday showcasing the upcoming rerelease in high definition action. The video demonstrates cutscenes, multiplayer, the Chao Karate, and bits of the bonus documentary that will accompany the highly anticipated classic, and I have to say: the entire package looks gorgeous.
Eager fans of this game will find SA2HD, as well as NiGHTS into Dreams HD, available on their consoles as early as next week!
Can I just take a minute to add how beautiful that game looks right now? Because I would just love to say how beautiful that game looks right now. It’s so beautiful!
A few weeks back we reported on several Sonic Adventure 2 items scheduled for release on the XBox Live Marketplace and a Harmonix list of future releases, both hinting at the release of the second Sonic Adventure title for download. We can now confirm that Sonic Adventure 2 will be hitting XBLA in the near future, with the game having now been listed on the Marketplace website [EDIT: Link is now dead – T].
From the details given, it looks likely that this HD version of the game will be the Sonic Adventure 2: Battle release with the listing of a “1-2 players” feature (with Chao Karate featured and the XBLA Sonic Adventure being the DX release), along with downloadable content likely to be composed of the avatar items reported earlier this month.
The current scheduled release date is the 3rd of October 2012.
At the moment there are no details as to the cost of this download – we will keep you updated as further infor becomes available.
EDIT: Thanks to Damnhedge’s eagle eyes, he’s spotted a tell-tale hint this will also be making it’s way to the PSN!

Just a quicky for you guys here on a chill Sunday. I stumbled upon this Green Hill mash-up earlier and I thought that it sounded like the greatest thing ever. YouTube user, Akuago220, combines the original Green Hill orchestration on the Genesis and lays it over the updated version found in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
It’s ear sex, man.
