  1. There has been rumors of a remake of Sonic Generations for a few days now, and they have only gotten more interesting as we found out that there's going to be some bonus Shadow content. Well, it's not a rumor anymore. SEGA has officially announced Sonic X Shadow Generations! The announcement, which was made in Sony's new State of Play presentation, didn't have anything shocking if you knew of the rumors. But there was still plenty of things that Shadow fans, and especially Sonic Adventure era fans, are able to gush over. In fact, Shadow, not Modern and Clasic Sonic, was the main star of this trailer. The vast majority of the trailer featured his campaign. And speaking of his campaign, "a brand-new story" awaits with Shadow. We didn't get to see many levels, but we did get some footage of what looks to be Final Chase. We also got to see the return of Black Doom and Biolizard, both of which seem to be bosses that Shadow will have to fight. However, SEGA didn't really reveal anything else, so we'll probably see more of Shadow's campaign in the coming months. So, when will we be able to play this? Well, SEGA confirmed that it will be releasing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC this autumn. It's more than likely that we will learn more about the game in the coming months, so make sure you stick with us as we cover what is very obviously going to be another busy year for Sonic fans! 3. After a whole week of rumors and speculation, Sonic X Shadow Generations has finally been announced to the world. And to coincide with the game's reveal, SEGA has released the first set of official images of the enhanced remaster in action. As you might expect from the title, Sonic X Shadow Generations is largely a modern remaster of the fan-favourite 20th Anniversary title that originally launched in 2011. In that game, Sonic the Hedgehog takes a trip through his own past and meets his 'Classic' self, as they both tackle 3D and 2D versions of old-school environments and bosses to take down Modern and Classic Dr. Eggman. However, this new release includes a whole new campaign dedicated to Sonic's doppelganger, Shadow. Introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 back in 2001, the angsty hedgehog arguably has just as storied a history as the blue blur himself, starring in his own game in 2005 and appearing in many action titles alongside Sonic since his debut. No doubt the slate of Shadow stages and bosses will be a trip down memory lane for all who remember his antics on the Dreamcast and beyond, with the official trailer teasing stages such as Final Chase and The Doom (or is it Lost Impact? We can never remember), alongside the iconic Biolizard face-off. Over on the PlayStation Blog, SEGA America's associate PR Thalia Piedra gave us some exciting spiel on what we can expect from the game. "Sonic X Shadow Generations combines Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic and Shadow gameplay, alongside a collection of beloved 2D and 3D stages from Sonic games over the past 20 years. Sonic Generations will now be modernized for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles, while Shadow goes on a standalone journey that explores his backstory and abilities in a way fans have never seen before. This ultimate celebration of Sonic gaming looks better than ever before with upgraded visuals." Sonic Team's Creative Officer, Takashi Iizuka, had something to say about the upcoming release. "With Sonic x Shadow Generations, we wanted to bring Sonic Generations to PS5 and PS4 while pairing a brand-new Shadow storyline to crossover with the original story. "With Shadow’s portion of the title, players will get to know him more as a character and understand his motivations. It will create the ultimate celebration of Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic, and Shadow gameplay that all fans will surely enjoy." Original Post Content: View full story

  5. The Sonic x Shadow Generations announcement has come and gone and it looks exciting! An HD version of the original Sonic Generations along with a brand new Shadow campaign. But what really excites us is some of the little things we noticed in the video. While little information was given, we know at least a few things making a comeback. BIO LIZARD RETURNS While he was in the 3DS game, Biolizard makes his HD debut. Just how tough will it be to smash the scales off this six-story salamander? BLACK DOOM Shadow's creepy co-creators return for more alien annihilation. This looks like it might be a boss battle similar to when Sonic fought Shadow and had to speed up to get close enough for an attack. Can you stick it out against this stinky starfish? FINAL CHASE This popular (if not frustrating) SA2 level returns for another go-around! Hopefully, Generations' tight controls will keep you from launching yourself into outer space again.... and again. SHADOW'S SWIRL LOGO RETURNS Since this game will likely focus on Shadow's most popular appearances, it only makes sense that his logo would return from the infamous "Shadow the Hedgehog" game of 2005. Fortunately, the Generations levels should fix many of the old issues with that game and any "Sonic '06" levels that might make a return. SONIC'S CAMPAIGN SHOWS LITTLE IMPROVEMENT IN VISUALS While there's definitely some improvement in its lighting (possible ray-tracing?), Sonic Generations seems to look identical to the upgraded version on Series X or PC. Even the tree branches have that flat, criss-cross effect still intact. At the very least, we should expect a 4K resolution and improved frame rate. Still, this trailer doesn't give us too much to go on, so we'll have to see more when Sonic X Shadow: Generations launches this Autumn on all current platforms.

  7. SEGA’s confirmed appearance at Gamescom 2023 has sent pockets of the Sonic fanbase into a frenzy, with many assuming that the publisher will announce a remaster of Sonic Heroes at the event. This particular rumour is based off of zero hard facts and information, of course. There have been no clues that SEGA will be bringing anything other than what it has already publicly announced to the Cologne game show. Which means, we assume, Sonic Superstars (although SEGA has not yet shared a list of games it will be bringing to the expo). But Sonic Twitter has taken it upon itself return to a recent TailsTube sketch on last month’s Sonic Central showcase, in an attempt to find some clues to support the latest rumour. The screenshot above, taken during the 23 June Sonic Central, shows a distorted screenshot of a cutscene from the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox classic. It was shared by Twitter user ‘DTBROS’, who highlighted the fact that SEGA’s Sonic social channels have a habit of hiding teasers of upcoming games in plain sight. To be honest, the TailsTube ’glitch’ is a pretty sound theory to support the idea that something is cooking at SEGA. But it’s not proof that anything will be announced at Gamescom - a show that has not traditionally been a venue for significant reveals by AAA publishers (with one or two exceptions). Of course, the vast majority of fans who are frenetically wishing for a Sonic Heroes remaster on Twitter just seem to be doing so at random. Which honestly sounds like Twitter in general, to us. All of this is to say that nobody truly knows what Sonic Team and SEGA have planned down the road. They may well surprise us all and announce a Sonic Heroes remaster - if that happens, you’ll be sure to find out about it first here. View full story

  9. Headcannon has returned to Sonic to remaster Sonic 3 & Knuckles for Sonic Origins. The developer, which in the past worked on the widescreen mobile remasters for Sonic 1 and 2 and co-developed Sonic Mania, confirmed on their Twitter that they also developed the enhanced, widescreen version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. This would also appear to confirm that the other versions are indeed ports of the Christian Whitehead remasters. For Stealth, who started Headcannon, this is the completion of something he has wanted to do for some time. He had this to say on Twitter: “Hey! Remember how I repeatedly said "If Sega wants me to remake Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) I'll do it"? Well, needing this game to complete their planned #SonicOrigins collection of remakes, Sega asked me to take on this huge task, and I recruited some of my Headcannon buddies to help!” Headcannon also confirmed that SEGA developed Origins’ menus, integration, and overall presentation. via Twitter
