Everybody by now knows the story, the so near yet so far Sonic game which never was. Since November, a user by the name of JollyRodger managed to acquire a build of the game and since then has been trying to get it running on modern stand alone PC’s. The news came with a warning that this process may take months if not years to complete. Continue reading Sonic X-Treme is Finally Playable
Negative Nancies and Debbie Downers need not speak ill of the lack of Sonic Dash on Android devices as of today, for SEGA and Hardlight Studios have finally released the endless runner onto the Google Play store for free!
The app’s surprise release follows the tease SEGA had spread from its social media networks just yesterday, and players will be pleased to know that they won’t be missing out on certain events that went down on the iOS version of the game any longer, such as the ongoing Zazz boss battle event tying in with the recent Wii U/3DS release of Sonic Lost World.
If you are reading this from your Android phone, I think you know what you have to do!
“About time!”, a good number of you would say!
The official Sonic the Hedgehog Facebook page has confirmed today that the long awaited PC Digital Download version of Sonic Adventure 2 will finally be distributed online as early as this coming Monday, the 19th of November.
The updated Dreamcast classic will be accompanied by the Battle Mode DLC, which unlocks additional content within the game – additional multiplayer stages and characters, and Chao Karate being noteworthy – the DLC of course being sold separately.
No word yet on the PC port of NiGHTS into dreams… HD.
Special thanks to Danielius on the SSMB for the tip!
And I honestly hope your wallets are ready for them.
The folks at SEGA are working on double time as of late. From the North American premiere of Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph last weekend, where the blue blur made numerous cameos, and with Sumo Digital’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on the way this month, some would expect that that would be all from SEGA for the upcoming holidays. With everyone’s attention elsewhere, SEGA has quietly released numerous soundtracks onto the iTunes market.
Available for select regions, specifically the US, Japan, and most of Europe, the onslaught of soundtrack releases began last week with Sonic the Hedgehog Original Soundtrack and Sonic Unleashed Original Soundtrack: Planetary Pieces. Eager fans of Sonic Unleashed and Sonic 2006‘s music may now procure the complete soundtrack to both games!
And today (by EST standards, mind you!), I was notified by TRiPPY of NightsintoDreams.com that NiGHTS into dreams… Perfect Album and NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams Original Soundtrack have both snuck onto the digital music marketplace as well! The timing is perfect, considering that NiGHTS into Dreams saw an upgraded rerelease onto XBLA and PSN worldwide just last month (which, if you haven’t bought and played already, you should)!
After a tech demo over three-and-a-half years ago and a teaser trailer last year, the team behind Sonic 2 HD has now made a playable alpha demo available to the community. Eager players can experience the entirety of Emerald Hill Zone in high definition, complete with Sonic 3 & Knuckles-style act transitions and upgraded music.
As of now, the demo can only run on Windows operating systems ranging between Windows XP and Windows 7. Download links are available on the Sonic 2 HD homepage, as well as 1080p screenshots and beautiful desktop wallpapers. Further project details are available on Sonic Retro.
Check out some footage after the jump!
Sonic Robo Blast 2 has been in development for 11 years. To think that we’d be playing a “version 2.0” makes me feel old, despite me only recently turning 22 years old. A day before the 2009 Sonic Amateur Games Expo opens, Sonic Team Jr., the game’s developers, have released this new version, three years after the last demo.
Version 2.0 has a completable, polished, yet unfinished single player campaign. The team’s leader, AJ Freda, has assured that there are so many improvements to the game that “to list them would be exhausting.” With this release, however, AJ will be leaving the team and turning over control to his other members. He is expecting a child soon, so we in the community wish him well on fatherhood and his future endeavors. It certainly is the end of an era.
Fans of Jun Senoue and Johnny Gioeli’s rock band Crush 40 will be delighted to hear that, confirming hints Senoue made on his website, there will two new records hitting Japan this Autumn.
An interview with Famitsu online has revealed the nature of the two CDs – one will be a sequel to their self-titled album with new non-Sonic material, while another will be a 10th Anniversary compilation of modern Sonic themes.
Additionally, Senoue has hinted that the Anniversary CD release may be released on multiple discs – although Deviantart user manaita translated the Japanese interview and suggests that there will be multiple releases over the course of three months, which leaves the possibility of a two-disc collection being sold in ‘parts’.
Jun Senoue has been trying to release his domestic works to the Western market, but so far success has been limited. If you’re after a copy of these CDs when they hit Japan, your best bet as always is to import.
Cheers to Snatcher2047 for the heads up!

Just like clockwork, the latest Sonic the Hedgehog title is to get an original soundtrack release in Japan. Called ‘Sonic World Adventure Original Soundtrack: Planetary Pieces’, no doubt it will be a pretty comprehensive collection of tunes from all the stages, bosses and events found in Sonic Unleashed. If you’ve yet to hear the sublime music so far, you can catch a preview at the official Sega website. That Chun-Nan track sure is tight. Those wanting to sit patiently until the release date can file behind T-Bird for the 29th January 2009. Bring some crisps. And 4000 Yen.
Sonic World Adventure Original Soundtrack Planetary Pieces – CDJapan (thanks, Rob!)
The newest issue of Sonic the Hedgehog has just hit newstands, and this time, every Sonic fan has a reason to take notice. The back up story is a prologue for the upcoming BioWare RPG, Sonic Chronicles.
Starting with this issue, Sonic Stadium will be regularly featuring news regarding comic book releases in the world of Sonic. This news usually comes complete with a seven page preview of the issue, as well as an (often misleading) synopsis of what lies within. Provided I’ve read the issue, I may also drop some opinion into the mix.

Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is shipping for the Wii and PS2 today in the US, for an MSRP of $49.99.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is the sequel to original Sonic Riders from 2006. This game, like the last, features a variety of characters from the Sonic-verse (as well as a few from other Sonic Team franchises) racing each other on upgradeable airboards called “Extreme Gear”. This game changes things up, by replacing the air gauge from the original game with Gravity control. This new ability allows you to change the center of gravity on the course, turning what had once been a wall into a new track. This can be used to find shortcuts and get an edge on your opponent. The game features twice as many courses, 16 in all, as well as 18 character and sixty vehicles. It has three multiplayer modes: Free race, World Grand Prix, and survival. The Wii version also comes with a “ghost mode” which allows you to download ghosts of other players online that you can race on the course.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity should arrive in Europe sometime next month. We’ll let you know when it ships.

It looks like we are set to see a compilation album due out early next year which will include a selection of the best vocal tracks from Sonic the hedgehog games, past and present.
Here’s what CD Japan have to say:
“Look back on fifteen years of “Sonic the Hedgehog” with the best vocal songs from each of the previously released “Sonic” games. Includes unreleased tracks, CD debuts, the latest remixes, and even bonus tracks from some of today’s hottest artists!”
I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing more exciting than a CD of unreleased material and remixes!

In Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic sails around an archipelago in various water craft. If you’ve been paying attention to Sonic News at all, you’ll have noticed this article that we posted not too long ago. It said that a Sonic X-Treme prototype would be released on July 18th, available for anyone to take a look at.
Well, as it turns out, someone attempted to leak it early, and this prompted ASSEMbler to make a formal release earlier on. So, today, July 16th, 2007, the developmental Sonic X-Treme release has finally been shown the light of day!
A big thanks to ASSEMbler for making this public! Enjoy and all that. It isn’t much, admittedly, but come on – what would your friends say if you told them you played an unreleased game? You’d be the top bloke in your group of mates. Or something.
Here’s the download links again, just in case you’re lazy (like me):
NOTE: You’ll need a Sega Saturn emulator to run this. SSF runs it perfectly, but you’ll need a high-end machine to run it well.
Once again the cornerstone titles of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise have been made available with the recent release of SEGA Mega Drive Collection in the UK. SEGA of Japan is pre-ordering a CD on their SEGA DIRECT site with all 7 SONIC the Hedgehog ’06 vocal songs. The CD, temporarily titled “SONIC THE HEDGEHOG VOCAL TRAX” is selling for 1,905 yen. The pre-order ends November 30th, so get it while you can.
Although the exact track list is undecided, is it said that Zebrahead will be on the CD for sure, with their song “His World”. It’s also safe to assume that Sweet Sweet Sweet remix by Dreams Come True and Akon and the other vocal songs in SONIC the Hedgehog ’06 will be added on.
If you can buy off of SEGA DIRECT, here’s a great addition to your Sonic soundtrack library, or maybe a stocking stuffer. 😉 Stay tuned for more SONIC the Hedgehog news coming soon.
While we can do nothing but wonder why the US omits their ‘u’ in words like honour and release video games on the Tuesday of every week (bit random), lucky Americans will be waking up to find that the next generation Sonic the Hedgehog is released today.
The press release we got sent this morning pretty much alludes what we already know, but humorously includes such continuity gems such as this: “For the first time in the franchise’s history, Sonic and the rest of the cast will also enter the human realm.”
Indeed. Early birds that pre-ordered the game over the pond will be able to grab some limited edition postcards, in a deal that appears to be mirrored in GAME stores across the UK. EB Games are also promising a free 15th Anniversary figurine with purchases of Sonic the Hedgehog in their stores. Continue reading Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 Released in US
After taunting us with barrages of screens and trailers, SEGA has finally come good with a playable demo of the much anticipated upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog title. Available now via the Xbox 360 Marketplace in the US and Japan, the demo weighs in at 315MB including a short playable Sonic stage and a trailer for Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, included as part of Microsoft’s current “Bring it Home” campaign for the upcoming X06 event.
Given that it’s one of the smallest downloadable demos available, there’s no excuse why any Xbox 360 owner or Sonic fan shouldn’t grab it immediately. As first comments about the demo are just beginning to slowly trickle in, check back later today for some early impressions.
Over the next few days TSS will too be overhauling a major content update, make sure you check out the TSS Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic And The Secret Rings pages later this week for the much overdue but well worth the wait updates.
Following news of GameTrailers leaking a new Shadow the Hedgehog Trailer on April 1, SEGA have now allowed the showcasing of the trailer on all media and fan websites.
SONIC NEWS reported the leak, which had GameTrailers adding a sequence of the new game involving Shadow facing the Egg Fleet and more moves available at the player’s disposal. The trailer was removed some hours later, yet many fansites had already obtained a copy of the trailer and offered it for download.
We contacted both SEGA and GameTrailers for comment, and it appears that the leaked trailer was not to be unveiled to the public until SEGA’s Pre-E3 Conference next month. SEGA consequently retracted their copies of the trailer, and requested all other websites to remove the movie from their sites.
Sonic Team’s Project Rub hit European shores today as the Nintendo DS was released to the public.
The Nintendo DS has 15 launch titles; Sonic Team develops one of which. Project Rub (known also as Feel the Magic XX/XY in America) is an off-the-wall series of mini-games that revolve around pleasing the “girl of your dreams”. It has a wacky sense of humour and is full of Sonic Team’s trademark innovations.
Christmas has come, in more ways than one! Not only is it literally Christmas in a couple days time, but Sonic Team has also figuratively brought the festivities to Japanese fans by releasing not one, not two, but three games this past week!
