The Classic Sonic game has now charted in Circana's top 20 US sales for three months in a row, landing at 12th place, charting one slot higher than November and four slots lower than its initial debut in October. Game Sales Sonic Frontiers Charts As the 18th Best Selling Game of 2023 in US

Sonic Frontiers may be a 2022 release, but it’s still managing to chart, as a top selling game in 2023! As of May, Sonic Frontiers amongst the year’s 20 best selling games, hanging on at the 18th spot, the same place it held back in April. This comes despite the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which instantly took the number two spot on the chart. This info comes courtesy of Circana Group, formerly NPD Group, which has long tracked US video game sales. The chart below was released by NPD analyst Matt Piscatella on his Twitter. While Sonic Frontiers has managed to stay in the top 20 for 2023, it did not manage to chart in May-only sales. via Twitter -

Today, the NPDs (via executive director Mat Piscatella’s Twitter) have released their January 2023 U.S. game sales ranking, and while Sonic Frontiers missed the top 10, it’s still hanging on at a respectable 12th place (down from 6th in December). In a prior report, NPD listed Sonic Frontiers as the 16th best selling game of 2022 in the U.S., while SEGA cited in their recent investor report that the game had sold 2.9 million copies worldwide by the end of December 2022. It’s difficult to say if Frontiers can maintain this pace through February’s packed release schedule, but its ability to hang on three months after release is yet another accomplishment in its impressive list. Sonic Frontiers NPD List Sonic Frontiers as 16th Best Selling Game of 2022

This morning, NPD’s Mat Piscatella shared a number of game sales statistics for December and 2022 on the whole, and as it turns out, Sonic Frontiers did quite well in a year with a successful Call of Duty remake, a new God of War, three Pokemon RPGs, and the eternal juggernaut Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The game ended 2022 as the 16th best selling title in dollar sales. While NPD doesn’t publicly give the exact sales numbers, Frontiers ranked 6th in December (previously 4th in November) in overall sales. When split by platform holder, Frontiers didn’t quite crack any 2022 top 10, but the game did hit the December platform-specific charts with #5 on Nintendo, #9 on Playstation, and #7 on Xbox.
