Nokia's website has been updated with brand new screenshots of 'Sonic N', the port of Sonic Advance that is currently in development for the N-Gage gaming cell phone. As you can see from the images, it looks pretty faithful to the Game Boy Advance original, the only major difference being the screen format. Instead of a horizontal view, the N-Gage's dimensions means the play area is a lot more vertical in shape. Hopefully the game is tweaked so it factors this change in, so you don't go stumbling into enemies more easily! Check out the images above and visit the Sonic N page on the N-Gage.com website by clicking here.

Impressions are coming in of Nokia's part mobile phone, part game console N-Gage, and along with them some confirmation of the nature of SEGA's 'Sonic-N' project for the device. Turns out this will be a version of the Game Boy Advance game Sonic Advance, adapted for Nokia's screen in a few ways. First, here's what Computer and Video Games had to say about Sonic-N: Maybe the framerate issues have something to do with the fact that the game is probably still being worked on, so hopefully that will be fixed. It sounds like a lot of the adaptations mentioned earlier will come in the graphics department, as the N-Gage has a vertical screen. That means that any on-screen gimmicks and obstacles may have to be altered slightly to make it play better on Nokia's screen. Otherwise, from CVG's report it sounds like the N-Gage compares a lot to Nintendo's Game Boy Advance. Although there is a keypad on the right hand side, two buttons are raised to promote them as main gameplay inputs (so like the GBA's 'A' and 'B' buttons). There are no shoulder buttons, and CVG notes that the d-pad that comes with the mobile phone leaves a lot to be desired. You can read the rest of CVG's report here. Overall, it sounds like the writers weren't sure about how successful the Nokia N-Gage will be... but if it does become a success, SEGA being involved in game development this early will be a bonus to them, no doubt.

You might have heard about Nokia making a mobile phone that doubles as a handheld game console. It sounds like they're serious about making it a success, because SEGA has committed to making a Sonic game for the device. It will be called 'Sonic-N'. Not much is known about the project, following the report from Gamespot, but we do know that the game will "enable you to use Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy" as playable characters. SEGA has also confirmed that they are making Virtua Tennis, Puyo Puyo, Super Monkey Ball and Sega Rally games for the N-Gage. Sounds like the company's plan to make a big splash in the mobile gaming scene is starting to come to fruition.

Mobile Games Sonic N Box Art Published on Gamestop Retailer Listing
Andrew P posted a story in Games
The box art for Sonic N, the port of Sonic Advance being made for Nokia's N-Gage gaming mobile phone, has been revealed thanks to a listing on retailer Gamestop. Check it out below. We recently posted screenshots of the game in action on the vertical N-Gage screen, which you can see here, and yep it certainly looks like Sonic Advance alright. So, we're not surprised that the box art for the game has the almost exactly same appearance as the GBA version as well. Short description below: It's going to go on sale for $29.99 USD.- 8 comments

Nokia has released a new Sonic N movie that shows the opening to the game. If it looks familiar to you, that's because it's obviously identical to Sonic Advance. You're not going crazy. You can watch the video on Nokia's N-Gage official website right here and see for yourself, if you like. Hopefully we will get to see some gameplay footage of the game in action very soon. I'm keen to find out what looks like with that vertical screen.
