Consider this Freak-Out Friday a history lesson in gaming, one that dates back to the bygone era of the mid-1990s.
What’s that? “This doesn’t have anything to do with Sonic the Hedgehog,” you say?
What you are about to bear witness to has everything to do with Sonic. In fact, this is about something much, much bigger than Sonic, for had it not been for this man, the Blue Blur — no, SEGA as a whole — would not be around today.
For those who do not know, Zone Runners are a popular music-inspired hip hop trio. All their music takes inspiration from your favourite Sonic levels and is certainly worth a listen.
Despite making three releases since their debut, the group have yet to put any of their music to video. That is of course, until today!
In a special collaboration with The Sonic Show, the Zone Runners finally come to animated life in this original track based upon the 9th anniversary of The Sonic Show’s webshow. Featuring animation from a variety of artists, plus artwork and fan submitted dance moves, this is a neat little package that everyone here is proud of!
What happens when the biggest viral song of 2014 crosses paths with the biggest Sonic release this year? This apparently.
In a similar move to last year, The Sonic Show are celebrating their 8th anniversary by taking a Sonical spin on the years largest viral tune. The 2014 parody takes the animation route by featuring the talents of three different animators plus including the best #BADNIK smashing #SELFIES (that’s a lot of hashtags) submitted by their audience in a art contest run earlier this year.
Not only do they cover the expected ground of the most noticeable complaints from the community over the Boom redesigns, they also still find time to make a small dig at Sonic 06, quite fitting when some are calling Boom “Sonic 14″.
Happy Anniversary The Sonic Show!
Troysson81 is a saint.
No, really. It takes a saint to have to rewatch nearly every cutscene in Sonic 2006 and have the patience to make a music video out of its dialogue.
And it’s too addicting to put down.
Also, if you spot the in-music reference, congratulations! You earned bragging rights!
