  1. It kind of feels like we're going a bit mad, because we've definitely covered this new set of Sonic-themed McDonalds' Happy Meal toys thrice now (four times if you include the recent eBay auction). And yet, every so often some new minor detail pops up on another website that makes it feel like Groundhog Day all over again. This time, it's news of two new games in the LCD Happy Meal toy lineup. Swirlvision reports on the new fast food collaboration, which is due to start on June 27th, and has all the usual quotes and info that we've heard before... except instead of the four we already know about, this latest article mentions a total of six, along with descriptions for all the others. The two games we haven't heard about yet are called "Tails Sky Patrol" ('Join Sonic the Hedgehog's friend, Tails, as he flies through the sky trying to collect rings.') and the excitingly-named "Sonic the Hedgehog Action Game" ('Launch Sonic the Hedgehog up and down over platforms on an adventure to collect rings and make it safely through the obstacle course challenge.'). Here are the descriptions for the other four games: Sonic the Hedgehog Speedway: Gamers are challenged to move Sonic the Hedgehog back and forth around the racetrack without running into anything. Shadow Grinder: Help Shadow maneuver around cracks and jump over breaks as he skateboards down a tricky rail. Knuckles Soccer: Gamers are faced with a soccer challenge from Eggman, in which they help Knuckles dive back and forth and block goals. AiAi Banana Catch: Bananas are falling from the sky and AiAi needs help moving back and forth to collect as many bananas as possible. Why don't you have more quotes from SEGA and McDonalds while we're here, too? Go on. The new set of Happy Meal toys will be available until July 24, so get your skates on!
  2. SEGA Japan is becoming a Summer Santa Claus this year, as it is giving away a set of Sonic McDonalds' Happy Meal toys to a few lucky winners in Japan through an online lottery. On the company's official website, it states that a number of these McDonalds Happy Meal goodies - which are soon to launch in the US - were handed out to attendees at E3 back in May. But it seems SEGA Japan held a few back for a giveaway for fans back home who couldn't come to LA. Not much more information was shared (although the online report does show SEGA's overall presence at E3 and it's pretty cool) but we do know the names and have some images of the range of toys on offer. Sonic Speedway Knuckles' Soccer Shadow Grinder AiAi Banana Catch More information on this as it comes out.
  3. After making its debut in Portugal late last year, the new range of Sonic the Hedgehog McDonald's Happy Meal toys are now available to collect in UK restaurants. The promotion will run from 4th January until 6th February 2024, and will feature bespoke blue boxes containing one of twelve different goodies. The selection of toys on offer range from Sonic character hoverboards, tower stackers, puzzles and mosaic posters to name but a few. Staying true to McDonald's policy of reducing plastic waste, most of the gifts here appear to be cardboard-based. A full list of toys is not yet available, so we're not sure if all of the hoverboard characters that were available in Portugal previously will be on rotation here - fingers crossed! Additionally, a new limited edition Sonic mobile game will be available to play through Happy Meal. By scanning the QR code on the box, fans can launch a short game where you have to guide Sonic and friends through a number of mazes to collect rings. Dine-in customers will also be able to get themselves a number of small goodies to entertain the family, such as headbands, flags and activity sheets (the latter of which can also be downloaded from the McDonald's website. If Sonic's not your thing (and to be honest, if it isn't, what are you even doing here?), you can also opt to obtain one of two childrens' books as your Happy Meal toy instead of something blue blur-related. For the time being, this looks like it has only launched in the UK - McDonald's US website has not yet updated with any mention of Sonic Happy Meals, but we imagine it's only a matter of time. We received some assets from SEGA's PR team but they ended up being absolutely tiny. But if you want to look at them, here you go: We've requested some higher resolution assets and will update the story with them as soon as we get them. In the meantime, check out the press release in full below. Original Post Content: View full story

  5. Sonic Superstars will be the focus of a new McDonald's Happy Meal collaboration set, if a newly-released commercial from McDonald's Portugal is any indication. mcd-pt-commercial.mp4 The above commercial, originally posted by Youtuber Sonic Station, shows Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy from Sonic Superstars dashing around the screen before hopping into a Happy Meal box. The range of available toys were displayed, and seem to be some kind of wheeled 'skateboard' toy with images that are focused on Modern Sonic characters. Given Sonic Superstars is a Classic Sonic game, this seems a little odd. Hopefully this new collaboration is carried across the rest of the world. In the UK, there are commercials running for Paddington, so it might be a while before we see any of this for ourselves.
  6. Sega of America have put up the ultimate Sonic The Hedgehog Auction ever, to celebrate the launch of some new McDonald's Sonic Happy Meal toys. Below is an image of it. The auction is to raise money for the McDonald's Ronald McDonald House charity, and features two full sets of the six new Happy Meal toys - one of which is entirely silver-plated and one of only two such sets available to the public. The auction winner will also get a poster of Sonic signed by Yuji Naka, copies of Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Pinball Party, and the full 10th Anniversary limited edition merchandise set (including a crystal paperweight, sterling silver ring and a one-of-a-kind Sonic statue). Here's the full description from the eBay auction, which you can find by clicking here:

  8. Last month, most of McDonalds’ upcoming Sonic 2 happy meal toys were leaked. However, the plastic toys will not be coming to the company’s UK and Irish locations, and will instead be replaced by plastic-free toys. The existence of toys was initially confirmed by a photo posted by a Facebook user, which was then shared to Twitter by Dave Luty. Luty than shared photos of what appears to be packaging for the toys taken off of a computer. The toys appear to be centered on Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. In addition to the toys, the photos also confirm a “book option.” The person who took the second group of photos Luty posted speculated that the toys were likely paper dioramas and board games. You can check out the photos below: The UK and Ireland are getting different Sonic toys due to a 2020 pledge from McDonalds UK & Ireland to reduce their use of plastics by eliminating plastic toys, and instead move towards toys made out of paper or cloth. McDonalds as a whole will be phasing out plastic toys by 2025. We don’t yet know what these toys will be, but once we do we’ll report on it, so stay tuned! Hopefully McDonalds will officially unveil their toys soon.
  9. Well, it seems that all but one of the McDonald’s Sonic 2 Happy Meal toys have been leaked. In an image that was apparently posted on the McDonalds Australia website showed off all but one of the upcoming plastic McDonald’s toys, and has now made its way to Twitter. The image confirms that McDonalds will be producing three Knuckles toys, three Tails toys, two Sonic toys, and a Giant Eggman Robot toy. A tenth “surprise” toy wasn’t shown. You can check the toys out below: With the movie only a month out, the official unveiling of these toys should be imminent. Perhaps someone over at McDonald’s Australia accidentally pulled the trigger a few days early. UPDATE: Seems the final toy has been leaked via a Youtube video, and is apparently a spoiler. We don’t be posting it here. As we approach the movie’s release, it’ll be more difficult to avoid spoilers on social media, we recommend following these steps.
  10. Following the reveal of the new toy line coming to McDonald's Happy Meals later this year, McDonald's Indonesia posted a commercial to Twitter featuring an original CG animation of Sonic and Tails. 2022-mcdonalds-advert-sonic2.mp4 You can see the commercial above. The text of the tweet notes that this toy promotion has begun at Indonesian McDonald's, and shows off four of the ten known options (and it looks like only Sonic's contract stipulates they have to use his full name). Given the original animation, there's a solid chance this commercial is an international version that will hit elsewhere whenever the Sonic 2 Happy Meal promotion begins. At time of writing, the current Happy Meal promotion in the U.S. is Mario Kart, and we do not know how long it is expected to run or if there will be an additional promotion between. Thanks to @josiahblaze for the news tip!
  11. Did you know many McDonald's Happy Meals now come with a QR code to access special features and games? Apparently they do, and you can use one to access this bizarre augmented reality Sonic 2 movie game! You'll normally need to buy a Happy Meal with a toy from Paramount's Sonic 2 movie to get access to this code (in fact, we haven't quite pinned down if this is a UK exclusive or not), but anyone anywhere can directly jump in via this URL: https://play.happymealfun.com/1.0.57/ (We don't know how long this promotion will be available, so if this link is broken in the future, sorry, there's not much we can do!) Sonic Cage Dome on Twitter brought this weird novelty to the world's attention: The VERY simplistic game has a 3D model of movie Sonic walking along set paths, attempting to collect as many rings as possible before the timer runs out. All the while, your camera lets you inject yourself to look upon this tiny world as if a deity, deciding the fate of the meager creature stalking the corridors of your realm. And yes, I did have quite a lot of fun making the feature image for this article. Thank you for asking.
  12. While Sonic has had plenty of figures and toys across the last 30 years, few attempt to recreate his second-most iconic ability, rolling into a ball. As it turns out, there was originally a concept for rolling Sonic as early as McDonald's 1994 Sonic 3 Happy Meal promotion. Consumer Time Capsule, a twitter account dedicated to collecting and posting classic ads and promotions, (like Max Headroom Coke cans, or nightmarish Grimace action figures) shared Simon Marketing documents showing a proposed Happy Meal toy where Sonic's entire torso could fold into his head, allowing him roll. This proposed toy never made it into production, and the officially released set included a Sonic-engulfed-in-flames launcher, a Tails helicopter, Knuckles piloting the Flying Nimbus, and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Robotnik. 13. Some new information has been revealed about the new lineup of Sonic and Super Monkey Ball toys planned for McDonald's Happy Meals this summer. They will be some kind of "interactive toys", which we're assuming means little handheld LCD games. According to Gamespot, there will be a "series" of these toys released, but we now know of at least two. 'Sonic Speedway' will "put players in a simple race to the finish line," and 'AiAi Banana Catch' will "have players catching bananas that fall from the sky." SEGA America's president of marketing, Mike Fischer, had another quote to go with this update. "The characters of the Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball franchises are some of the most recognizable icons in video games today. This relationship with McDonald's allows Sega to further reinforce those character brands with the younger gamer through a never-before-seen premium vehicle." "Premium vehicle." Sounds delicious. Anyway, we'll share more details on these toys when we get it.
  14. We have fond memories of hitting the nearby McDonald's and ordering a Happy Meal to grab a Sonic toy in the 1990s. Those days are coming back, with SEGA announcing a new deal with the fast food chain that will see Sonic return to kids' dinner boxes. Sonic the Hedgehog and another SEGA series, Super Monkey Ball, will be getting special Happy Meal toys made. They'll be available in the Summer, although no specific date was mentioned. Both SEGA and McDonald's seem really happy about the news though. In a report on IGN, SEGA America's Mike Fischer said that "Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball are two of SEGA's most popular video game franchises,. SEGA's affiliation with McDonald's affords us the opportunity to generate increased exposure for these properties among a growing universe of gamers." McDonald's Karlin Linhardt said, "We believe consumers will have a great reaction to the innovative Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball premiums found only in McDonald's Happy Meals this summer. SEGA's properties are extremely popular and we look forward to bringing them to McDonald's consumers through this unique happy meal offering." We'll bring you more on this as and when they become available. Here's hoping they make it to the UK too!

  20. As of next Wednesday (19th March), anyone in the UK who finds themselves in the vicinity of a McDonald's (i.e. anywhere) can pick up some nifty new pieces of Nintendo merchandise - that's right, Super Mario is coming to a Happy Meal near you! Wahoo! The toys will be available until 29th April (presumably rotating which toys are being given away where every week or so) and is tied in with a "Run, Jump and Power Up!" promotion themed around Super Mario to get kids being more active while they chow down on their greasy burgers carrot sticks and fruit bags. There's eight toys to collect, pictures of them all can be seen here: If you'd rather have something other than a Happy Meal or would just rather not eat McDonald's food at all, I think you can buy the toys separately for about £1 each (or at least that's what they used to do - haven't bought any Happy Meal toys for ages now!) Anyone going to be rushing to their nearest fast food outlet to get their hands on these goodies? Do you think it might give Nintendo and the Wii U a much needed boost? Or are you just against McDonald's and everything it stands for? Whatever the case, it now begs the question - Ronald McDonald for Smash Bros Wii U/3DS confirmed?
