  1. If you've already watched the first few episodes of Sonic X in Japan (either on TV or via other methods...), you're probably obsessed with the opening theme of the new anime, just like we are. 'Sonic Drive' is an absolute banger of a song, and now you can choose to pre-order the CD single so you can play it whenever you like! This might sound a bit weird, but CD single releases for TV shows is not an unusual thing in Japan. Most opening and ending themes for shows (particularly anime) are performed and produced by big Japanese pop and rock stars, and Sonic Drive is no exception with the track involving legendary Japanese musician Hironobu Kageyama and singer Hideaki Takatori. 'Sonic Drive' is available to pre-order on CDJapan (English) and Neowing (Japanese), at a price of ¥1,048 (or $9.50 USD for import). It'll release on 28th May 2023 and will feature the following tracks: SONIC DRIVE Just call me SONIC~眩しい風になれ~ SONIC DRIVE(Original Karaoke) Now if you'll excuse us, we're going to pre-order and hum the song in our heads for the next couple of weeks.
  2. Sonic X might have only just started airing on Japanese TV, but we're already getting confirmation of a DVD release of the series! A listing for a 'Volume 1' DVD of Sonic X has been spotted on internet store 'Neowing / CDJapan', for release on the 23rd July 2023. According to the website, there will be five episodes on the disc - here are the names of the episodes via online translation (warning, this might be a spoiler even if you've seen the first episode, because the other four haven't even aired yet): "Supersonic Hero Appears!" "Infiltration! Area 99" "Dr. Eggman's Ambition" "Obtain the Chaos Emerald!" "Clash!! Sonic vs. Knuckles" The shop page also lists a total run time of 125 minutes, as well as a bonus called "Sonic English 1", which we imagine is a little sketch or something. There is a first print edition that includes a limited edition poster along with the DVD, so if you want that you should look into pre-ordering now. Japanese fans can use the Neowing website, but fans outside of Japan can use CDJapan to pre-order. The price is ¥3800, which comes to around $31.39 USD. You'll need a Region 2 or Region-Free DVD player in order to play the disc. We usually have to wait years for DVDs of Sonic cartoons to be announced, so this is very good news. We hope that it won't be too long a wait for the English language version of the show to arrive in the West - along with the DVDs, of course. Via Sonic HQ
  3. Over the past two weeks, Sonic Channel has promoted a partnership with Japanese pop-culture store AMNIBUS, showing off upcoming collectables, accessories, and stationary. These will be challenging to import if you’re outside Japan as the store does not offer international shipping, but there are some neat inclusions still worth appreciating from afar. Pre-orders are being accepted until March 22, and expecting to ship in May. The highlight of the collection is a set of acrylic standee figurines sold individually or as a pricey set. Though you’re probably quite familiar with the all-to-common stock art used for each, the simplicity of the extended cast propped up with clear acrylic and a small, circular stand definitely has a minimalist charm. They’re priced at ¥ 500 individually or ¥ 10,000 for a complete set. Beyond the sweet shelf swag, the collection also includes pin badges, file folders, pens, handheld mirrors, an iPhone case, a shirt design, and a color-block jacket that I presume you buy if you’re trying to paint Sonic gunpla and forgot what colors he uses. “But GX,” I hear you call out, “why would you report on such nice things that you know I cannot have.” And I reply in a hushed voice, “So that you may know my own pain when I saw this.” And because, let’s be real, acrylic standee figurines look cool.
