#77 Summer Of Sonic 2011 Retrospective Hour Special

Just think. It was only two weeks ago that a corner of London was swamped by Sonic fans. It was just two weeks ago that people who helped create Sonic, and people who were still making Sonic what he is today, had flown all the way from Japan to meet people whose lives they had influenced. It was just two weeks ago that over 1,000 came to Summer Of Sonic, and over 20,000 went to our site to watch it online. Basically, a lot of crap went down two weeks ago!

Of course, some things never change. Once again The Sonic Show was there to broadcast the event to those of you at home and once again we (in conjuction with Sonic Showcase Network) have compiled a selection of highlights into a “Best of”  hour special. Think of it as box of chocolates in video form, where we have taken out of the ones you don’t like. There are so many great moments this year that we couldn’t fit it all into one video. But don’t worry, they are all available too as bonus videos on our youtube channel.

So sit back, see if you can spot yourself, and enjoy!

#73 RED HEDGEHOG: Summer Of Sonic 2011 Special

This year the Evil Doc team put together a Red Hedgehog special in just 8 days! However it was in flash and our set up on the day couldn’t play it. Don’t worry though as we have it here for you to finally enjoy!

A history of ArchangelUK and The Sonic Show

Someone recently asked my why I picked on Kevin (best known as ArchangelUK) in one of our recent videos, as they found it a bit unfair. What they didn’t realise was that AAUK has been frequently popping up in this little podcast since the very beginning. I view AAUK as the lucky charm of The Sonic Show. Lets not forget that he was the first major Sonic site (Sonic Wrecks) to support the show, long before anyone else did! It’s his promotion that got SCD to see the show and begin its long journey to where it is today. Every so often we always feel it’s important we do a “Kev Kameo” (we spell it with a K intentionally okay?!?!) so while you may have only just noticed, lets take you through his many appearances (with and without his consent) in The Sonic Show’s timeline.

#1 The BIG crossover. 2007.

Back in 2007, The Sonic Show and Radio Redux merged into one big thing! Kevin hosted in his usual style and unsurprisingly The Sonic Show suddenly gained a ton of attention!

#2 The BIG crossdresser. 2008.

Hop along to early 2008 and we have our first “Kev Kameo”. Featured in season 2 of The Sonic Show, we for some reason got very bored.

#3 The BIG stroke. 2009

We managed to catch AAUK for a chat during Summer Of Sonic 2009. Bless him he was completely fucked and the day had only begun (yes it got worse, can you blame him from retiring from organising this thing!) but managed to show such energy for the event in his brief natter. He also sent a message direct to you guys who watched at home through The Sonic Show live stream getting everyone to wave and shout for Crush 40 to come (which worked).

#4 The BIG Afro. 2009

The Sonic Show site went offline for about a month while we did a whole site redo on a new server. In that time the site had one working video, our second “Kev Kameo”, in the form of AfroangelUK getting on the soul train.

#5 The BIG kidnap. 2009

In what is simply a bizarre and disturbing opening sequence to any episode we’ve done, AAUK discusses how much he loves the show. To the point that he will lay a trap and kidnap so he can take over my show. The next shot has me locked in an empty room tied and gagged by him… o_O

#6 The BIG sequel. 2009

We announced we had an exclusive launch trailer on the show. Which we did…. of course it was fake. And it featured our favourite “Kev Kameo”. We imagine this is how he worked at SEGA.

#7 The BIG stroke PART 2. 2010

We interviewed AAUK the next year for our big Summer Of Sonic blowout. His answer for “How is it going”, pretty much sums up how his “I may collapse and die” metre was at it’s max, even if his charm says otherwise. He must love the fact we come up in his face every year when he’s really busy to ask how busy he is. If you’re reading this Kev, <3 your efforts these 4 years! We will be bothering you on June 25th, sticking a microphone in your face as your being taken out on a stretcher.

#8 The BIG rainbow. 2011

The most recent “Kev Kameo” is the oddest one. If you know Nyan Cat then you know what this is. We stuck it in at the end to see if people watch all the way through. It would appear they did!

So that’s AAUK’s numerous times with the show (that we can recall) forgetting all the mentions of Wrecks on our news segments. Will we continue to do it, yes. Why do we do it, because we <3 him and even though we only shove his face in on average once a year, we feel it’s a stupid nod to what he’s done for us. Well that’s our excuse anyway.

#64 SUMMER OF SONIC 2010 RETROSPECTIVE

The Sonic Show and Sonic Showcase Network once again join forces to shove a lot of Summer Of Sonic nostalgia from 2010! This year we head over to The Pavilion in London’s Shepherd’s Bush for our fun.

The delightful Roareye Black is our host for the run of the show, taking you through a tour of the Summer Of Sonic plus interview a lot of people from the Sonic community.

We also get to see the never shown on the day epic fest of Sonic Adventure 2 in brief, as well as enjoy the intro to last years event! Oh and there was one other thing… CRUSH 40 live in multi-angle epicness!!

So, if you didn’t get to go last year, or wanted to relive the magic, sit back and enjoy the next 50 minutes!

#63 Slingerland’s Corner: FAN CHARACTERS!

As part of our 5 year anniversary, we take a look back at the original Slingerland’s Corner. In this episode he tackles a big subject, Sonic fan characters. In fact he tackles one particular one, Evil The Hedgehog.

Slingerlands Corner may be a thing of the past, but you can now ask the ‘Answer Man’ you  Sonic questions! He answers a few of them through the site, but the best ones get answered in his upcoming video episodes! If you want to ask the Answer Man something, go to formspring.me/thesonicshow.

This game was originally made in the Really Amateur Games Expo in either 2008 or 2009. Which I found lurking on my pc, if anyone knows who made it please comment as Id love to credit them, even though its a pile of crap (intentionally!)

#62 Sonic 2 HD Teaser Trailer

For those of you who may not have noticed, this weekend saw the release of the first teaser trailer from Sonic 2 HD!  It has been in the works in one form or another as far back as 2007, and like a lot of fan projects we do wonder whether it will ever truly be finished, but you can’t deny how good this trailer looks! Interested (you should be), then check out their developer blog, their official site, or join their facebook page!

#61 Red Hedgehog Episode 1: SONICSHOW 5 YEAR RETROSPECT

It was back in 2008, that Evil Doc teamed up with The Sonic Show to create a series of toons for our audience to enjoy. In this one they looked at some of the more odd memories the characters have.
EVILDOC is a collaboration between Roger Van Der Weide and Alexandra D. Fortin and has been active since September 2006. They mainly focus on Videogame parodies (Bowser’s Plan, Doomed Shadow Show) and made a few original series such as The Evildoc Show.

#60 5 YEARS OF SONIC SHOW! Intro Look back

It was back in 2006 that The Sonic Show started, and throughout the next few months we will be looking back at what The Sonic Show has been up to.

To start it off, we take a look back at every intro sequence along the years of the show.

2006 started with a basic sequence edited by myself, to the tune of the Sonic & Knuckles theme.

2007 brought in a revamped version, using the Remix Project version of the tune and art drawn by Unny Gorey.

2008 saw a whole new era with art drawn by Professor J and music composed by Huepow.

2009 Finally brought us up to date with a new sequence animated by the very talented Legend 20x with music originally composed for the show too by Hunter Bridges

#58 Return to Little Planet 2 is finally here!

At long last it is here! The sequel you guys have been waiting for! Return to a human world influenced by the characteristics and adventures of the Sonic world you know and love. I won’t waste your time with words, just watch it and enjoy!

Some characters you may wish to know:Posted ImageSonic
You should all know who this character is.  He’s still a positive guy who loves the thrill of adventure. Thanks to the time stones from the previous movie, who knows what he gets up to these days.

Posted ImageTailsStill looking after his Tornado, but hasn’t seen Sonic for a long, long time.

She also hasn’t heard from Sonic for a long time. But in this canon, she has reason to be annoyed, as Sonic has a spark for her.

Dr. Robotnik is recovering from his previous defeat. But this time he has much bigger plans.

#56 Live From SEGA of America

It’s time for another episode of The Sonic Show.  This time around, we hit the road and visit SEGA of America in San Francisco, California for their second annual community event.  We’ll play some PSP, talk to the employees at SOA and drop dimes on Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. Joining me on this trip is none other than America’s favorite doppleganger, Ben Kalough, SEGA of Antarctica’s best PR man.

For the Sonic 4 feedback session, I cut down the 30 minutes into about 10. There are moments where I started to speak and cut the camera, because I didn’t feel like rolling on what I was saying for those initial discussions about physics and level design. I spoke at length and since I gesticulate a lot, it would have been a mess. I wanted to focus on making a good, concise point instead of worrying about filming.  As a substitute, I’ve cut in abridged versions of what I said to Aaron and Ken, set to the Sonic 3invincibility theme.

Note: they wanted feedback and we gave it to them professionally. Anybody who says, “oh my god complaiiiiniiiiing” needs a reality check.  Any comments like this one will be deleted and you will be banned.  I don’t even want to deal with the Sonic Defense Force today (or ever, really).  Sonic 4: Episode 1 has major problems, so we aired them to make Episode 2 better.  Sonic 4Good Edition.

Enjoy the video and for a more detailed report of the event, I wrote one up this past Sunday.  Feel free to ask questions about the event and I will be more than happy to answer them for you.  Thanks again to all of the SOA employees and to all the guests who were featured in the video.  I had an absolute blast this past weekend and I think it shows!

#55 Cream Kills Everybody: A Dramatic Fanfic Reading

Brad Flick: Our running crew at Sonic Retro usually hops on Skype once a day.  It’s pretty ridiculous. A recent tradition at the annual Sonic Amateur Games Expo has been to get together and read incredibly awful fan-fiction (aka most fan-fiction) with Dom of Rare Candy.  Back in 2008, this was the most ridiculous fan-fiction that we had read to date.  It still stands as one of the all-time greats.  Retro member H_Hog recently finished an animation on his DSi, a projecttwo-years in the making, to accompany the audio.

Complete with Dom’s amazing musical talents, his Andross-inducing reverb and H_Hog’s Flipnote Studio animation, Sonic Retro presents… “Cream Kills Everybody: A SonicBlast08 Masterpiece.”  Warning: language and poorly-drawn gore.

Starring the voice talents of: Dom, H_Hog, Kroze, InstantSonic and Katzu Niku.  Stay tuned for more dramatic fan-fic readings.  Trust me, we’ve got plenty.  Yes, I play Rotor in most of them.  He’s so fabulous.
