Spoilers Sonic Frontiers Spoilers: Datamining Discovers Update 3 Character Animations and Assets in Update 2
GX -The Spindash- posted a topic in Games
Spoilers ahead to those sensitive to them. There are only three constants in life: death, taxes, and game patch data containing hints at upcoming content. It wasn't long before the community (specifically Bluwolfblitz on Twitter in this case) began dissecting the game's new files and discovered new animations, textures, and weapon models for Sonic's soon-to-be-playable buddies. The full thread is available here with screenshots, videos, and textures, but there are a few worth highlighting: Each of the three have some form of weapon associated with them, Amy fighting with both Tarot cards and her iconic hammer, Tails getting a "Cyblaster" gun or turret, and Knuckles either punching or taking the form of a drill. The series, thoroughly doubling-down on Amy as a fortune teller, has incorporated her deck into an attack. The cards have the same texture as those in the IDW comics, Sonic Origins, and the upcoming reproduction set releasing this November. Far from the days of Sonic Adventure 2's wall crawling, Knuckles' climb animation here is much more aggressive. He'll also squat down in idle like a stereotypical anime delinquent. (And really, is Knuckles anything but?) And finally, Tails does what Tails does best, fly in ways that defy physics and poke at invisible machines. Without context, we don't know the constraints to his flight yet, but one must imagine it would be quite useful on the more vertical islands. Finally, it appears that each character may get their own skill tree. Sonic's tree in the game totals to 15 moves (many of which are combat finishers), and Tails, Knuckles, and Amy appear to have the same quantity as Sonic himself if the 1-15 labels are any indication. It's probably safe to assume the numbers are placeholders. As a caution, Bluwolfblitz notes that the update also contains much of the third update's script text. They've opted not to share them, but for those wary of story spoilers, the info will likely be out there elsewhere. Sonic News Tips Credit: Ryannumber1gamer Original Post Content: Seems like the newest Frontiers update is holding a few more birthday surprises for our blue boy than what was shown off tonight. Similar to the data for the Spindash being present in the first update, ready to be implemented into the second update, it seems we've finally got our very first look at the playable characters in the third update. If the reality hasn't set in yet that we're getting a playable Tails, Knuckles, and Amy come Update 3, you've finally got your first piece of footage to make it feel like a reality. Amy's running and seemingly her attack animations has been found in the game files, alongside animations for Tails and Knuckles! View full story- 28 replies

Rumor RUMOR: Origins Datamine Hints At Frontiers Characters and Mechanics
GX -The Spindash- posted a story in Games
The game is not out, and we cannot yet confirm this (grain of salt grain of salt grain of salt), but a user on ResetEra has pulled a handful of value references from Sonic Origin's frontend that may have originated from Sonic Frontiers. While some of the value references are fairly obvious what they equate to, "FirstPortalCleared" or "UIParryTutorialWatched," a few refer to characters and mechanics that may be involved in the game. The ResetEra page has about 28 listed, but picking out just a few... KodamaElderFirstTalked KodamaHermitFirstTalked FishingBigFirstTalked FishCaught VoiceDiaryCaught GrowFlowerStartDay Fishing in the game has been one of the many prevalent rumors following the Summer Game Fest impressions, and if this datamine is accurate, Frontiers fishing may involve the rod master himself, Big the Cat. For now, we'll just have to hope; it's not truly an open world game without fishing. Other noteworthy references include an elder and a hermit that Sonic can presumably talk to, listed as "kodama" (a reference to Japanese tree spirits?), a flower growing based on time, and a voice diary. SEGA has remained tight-lipped on the extended details of Sonic Frontiers' gameplay beyond the IGN gameplay videos and Summer Game Fest written impressions. The game's tone thus far has been very isolated, but perhaps with a couple more inhabitants of the island, it won't be quite as lonesome an experience.- 3 comments
