  1. Sonic Team is going to include a bunch of unlockable GBA mini-games in the Gamecube release of Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. The games will be able to be downloaded onto a GBA using a Gamecube link cable. SEGA's official website was recently updated to mention these bonus titles, which include NiGHTS into Dreams, Puyo Pop and ChuChu Rocket! The site states that there may be more mini-games to unlock as well. This isn't the first time Sonic Team has done this. Last year, the studio included NiGHTS and Puyo Pop games within Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II, and later offered a bunch of these games (plus ChuChu Rocket!) to Japanese department store shoppers. Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is due to release on 26 September, 2003 in the US, so we'll be able to find out more for ourselves then. Source: Gamerfeed
  2. Missing Sonic Team's Saturn classic, NiGHTS into Dreams? Yeah, we are too. Puyo Puyo too. Well, if you're planning to pick up the Gamecube version of Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II, you will be able to play micro-sized versions of both games on your Game Boy Advance! IGN, reporting from the E3 2002 show floor, reveals the Nintendo-specific mode in the latest version of PSO, where minigames can be downloaded to a GBA after connecting it to a Gamecube via link cable. The two games are Puyo Pop and NiGHTS: Score Attack. "[NiGHTS Score Attack] is, essentially, a 2D conversion of the 3D game released on the Saturn system several years ago," IGN writes. "The GBA version features scrolling bitmap backgrounds instead of a full polygonal world, but the flying action was pretty faithfully converted on the digital GBA pad." Exciting, huh? Below you can find screens and footage of NiGHTS in action. Screens: Video: Source: IGN "Article"
  3. Fresh from the Tokyo Game Show, SEGA has released a promotional video showcasing how Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on Gamecube and Sonic Advance on Game Boy Advance connect with one another. It's all for the greater good of the Chao! As soon as any new media comes out of TGS, we'll report it right here.
  4. We recently learned that Sonic Adventure 2 Battle will connect with Sonic Advance for portable Chao raising. But today we have more details on what exactly that entails, as well as screenshots of the special Chao Garden mode in action. According to a report on IGN, once you're done looking after your A-Life blob in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (which will assumedly work in a similar fashion to Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast) you can carry your Chao over to a pod that will allow you to transfer the virtual pet to a copy of Sonic Advance. A Game Boy Advance with a copy of Sonic Advance must be plugged into the Gamecube using a communication cable. After you've moved it onto your handheld, you can raise your Chao on the move in what's being called the Petit Chao Garden. Much more advanced than Chao Adventure 2 on Sega's Visual Memory Unit, on GBA you can purchase seeds and fruit using rings collected in the main Sonic Advance adventure. You can also grab goodies for your Chao by playing two little mini-games in the Petit Chao Garden, called 'Okashi Mekucchao' and 'Janken Shoot'. Both Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Sonic Advance are planned to be released in Japan on December 20. Check out the screenshots of the Petit Chao Garden - as well as some new screens from SA2 Battle's Chao Gardens - below. Via IGN
  5. Interesting news - it sounds like Sonic Adventure 2 on the Gamecube will interact in some ways with Sonic Advance on Nintendo's Game Boy Advance. From what we understand, this will come in the form of a unique way to raise Chao on the move. According to IGN Pocket, the Gamecube version of SA2 will feature Chao Races, similar to those seen in the original Dreamcast version. However, to help grow and raise your Chao, you can connect a GBA to the Gamecube using a special communication cable, and use the handheld to boost the stats of your little blobby pet. On the Dreamcast, players can raise the stats of their Chao using their Visual Memory Units - they can download their pets onto the memory card and play Chao Adventure 2 on the digital screen whilst out of the house. It sounds like this will be a similar feature on GBA and Gamecube, but hopefully with the power of the new portable console we may see this 'Tiny Chao Garden' offer more elaborate features.
