Chris Senn Puts an End to “Project S”

Chris Senn, one of the original members of the Sonic X-treme team, has cancelled “Project S,” a community created version of the cancelled Sega Saturn title.  Senn has released a statement on his forum regarding the cessation of “Project S:”

Now the saga of Sonic X-treme arrives at a new crossroad.  As of January 12, 2010, it is with a heavy heart I announce that Project-S is officially canceled.

Many people worked very hard throughout the project’s three year and three month life cycle.  Making any product is extremely difficult, and Project-S was no exception.  Working for free and online with a wide range of experience, skillsets, availability, and dedication just didn’t work out for the team responsible for Project-S.  The hope is that the successes the team earned along the way are complimented by lessons learned that, unfortunately, led to our collective inability to reach a public release.

We appreciate how patient our fans have been, and how much they have supported our efforts.  Although we can’t provide you with a playable game, we would like to see how much interest there is in the materials we did create.  If you would like, please vote for what you would most like shared from Project-S.  Click here to vote.

Thanks for your support.  Though this has been hard for all of us, we are thankful for what we learned and the new friendships we’ve made.

Let’s welcome a new decade full of possibilities, and take positivity from this experience to become happier, more successful people!

Sincerely,
On behalf of the Project-S team,
-Christian G. Senn

Followers of the project can vote on what the would like to see released to the public.  Since there has been no media whatsoever in the three years that “Project S” has been in development, it will be interesting to finally see what the team had come up with.  The forum has been littered with fans asking for “progress” for years, so those folks will finally get some answers.

New Sonic Xtreme Files Leaked

Leak pic 1

Sonic Retro Admin Scarred Sun has leaked a package of files containing development material from the game Sonic Xtreme. For those not in the know, Sonic Xtreme was a title planned to launch SEGA’s blue mascot into the 3D era of gaming but the game worked on by Chris Senn and Ofer Alon had its life cut short when SEGA pulled the plug on its development.

Contained in the package are images, textures, definitions, and a viewer written by SANiK—fisheye perspective and all. With these files we can get a closer look at just how far into development the game was before it reached cancellation.

You can grab the file package here

SAGE 2008 IS NOW OPEN!

IT’S FINALLY HERE! THE 2008 SONIC AMATEUR GAMES EXPO IS HERE!

We invite any and all Sonic fans to come to the 13th iteration of this long-standing, Sonic community tradition, hosted by one of the community’s original sites, Sonic Fan Games HQ. Play the latest and greatest fan projects all in one place for one glorious week of celebrating not only Sonic the Hedgehog, but our community as well.

Please, hop right into the chat room, look at the schedule, and just read everything there is to read about the show! It’s going to be great!

A word of warning about certain booths: Sunday is usually the slowest day for the booths section, as dead links will be weeded out and some people will be putting up their demos throughout the day, due to time zone differences. Bear with that fact, because it happens every year. Come Monday, everybody should be ready to roll.

Be sure to check here for TSS Staff’s input on all the fangaming action!

With that said…

Mike Pollock coming to SAGE, more games

Mike Pollock, the voice of Dr. Eggman for 4kids, is going to be a SAGE chat guest along with the aforementioned Ryan Drummond, Chris Senn, and Richard Jacques. Chris Senn’s appearance now has a time and date confirmed. This show just keeps getting bigger and bigger! Here’s the entire rundown of what is brand spanking new as of today:

MORE GAMES

  • Sonic GEDA – a game that pays tribute to Sonic CD by emulating its play style
  • Sonic Fusion – no idea what this game is, but it’s coming

MORE EVENTS

  • Mike Pollock – time and date have yet to be determined
  • Chris Senn – confirmed to be in the chat room at 9 PM EST on Thursday, August 21st.

The top few people will meet head to head in a live SAGEcast that tests their Sonic knowledge. I am hosting and I will probably be as ridiculous as possible.

That’s all for today, folks!  Oh, you want a source for this information?  Well, it is not in any SAGE threads yet, but let’s just say that I have my methods (and that would be…talking to the director -easy enough).

Check back for more SAGE updates and check this story out later today at TSSZ when it is copy pasted over there (ouch).

Chris Senn launches X-Treme website

Hurrah I hear you scream, the Sonic X-Treme compendium’s first instalment has been released.

Eversince Chris Senn began spilling the beans on the Sonic X-Treme project on his forums (in mid November) he’s been promising the world in the form of the SXC, and for a while it seemed like that might never have happed. Searching through disks and paperwork, on the now extinct project, was a lengthy task. It’s amazing that Senn has got this far without giving up, despite numerous jabs an insults from the very people he is trying to help. Continue reading Chris Senn launches X-Treme website

Chris posted this message on his message board on January 06, 2006 04:00 PM PT (US):

The Sonic Xtreme fan community will be delighted to know that I met with Yasuhara Hirokazu for lunch today, and he agreed to let me share his paper designs he contributed towards the end of the Sonic Xtreme project. They are VERY cool! These will be shared in the Sonic Xtreme Compendium (SXC) I keep mentioning. Continue reading Senn and Yasuhara to explore Sonic 1
