  • PSA: The Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble "SEGA Pass" Only Includes Sonic at Launch

Not much of a rumble, is it?

While it's heartening to see Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble getting positive reviews, what isn't so heartening is the "SEGA Pass." The DLC bundle comes with a whopping $20 price tag for Digital Deluxe buyers (and even more for physical version buyers or those getting the DLC piecemeal), but at time of launch only includes Sonic.

    When in 2024? WHEN?!

When purchasing the Digital Deluxe Edition in the U.S. eShop, the buyer will be presented with a list of generically labeled DLC with only "SEGA Character Pass DLC 1" available now. It doesn't tell you that the one you're getting now is Sonic, as all the entries have a generic title despite SEGA already revealing the entire contents of the SEGA Pass in their marketing. All others are only given an identical placeholder date. This means you get no sense of how they intend to release the rest of this pass, be it staggered or all at once.

No marketing for the game or the pass clarifies when this content is expected to release beyond a vague "2024." I scrounged through the official U.S. site and trailers for clarification, and none was to be found. For the unaware buyer (such as some of us on staff), this could come as a shock since most SEGA DLC passes with future content will at least give you a meaningful window of when the content will release (even if it's rather vague about what that content might be).

Yes, I would like to know what that additional level content it is to judge if it's worth the asking price, but at least I have a sense of when I'd be getting it.

Though passes for future DLC aren't new, the SEGA Pass is sorely lacking transparency for something holding a rather premium price tag. So if you're hoping to roll with the monkeys, put some major thought into whether or not you're willing to pay extra for a vague "eventually this year" promise.

I don't think Sega has ever been especially good with DLC (maybe back on the Dreamcast?) but they have gotten markedly worse in the last few years. About as bad as you can be without actually including microtransactions

Just give me a physical deluxe edition with nice bits in the box and a season pass for dlc. Make it avaialble in all territories, not just japan, and I will be happy. DLC should be a nice bonus or a meaningful add on for a reasoable price

Just made an account here to comment on this problem. Not the biggest Super Monkey Ball fan or play any of the games but with Sonic annouced I wanted to get it, only when prompted to buy it does say available 3/31/2025?!?! Trailer says avaiable 2024 and they showcased all the stuff thats available already so I don't even know why they're doing this?! Glad I found this forum because I was going crazy looking everywhere on their websites anad trailers to see if I was gonna get the DLC regardless but I guess we have to wait til 2025?! Jeez.

Hey, welcome to the forum! :) Hope you have a great time here. :D

The date listed there is most likely a placeholder. It'd be wild if we really had to wait until 2025 for the extra skins, but it's likely listed there so that SEGA doesn't have to commit to a specific 2024 date, gives them some wiggle room. Companies do that a lot. I imagine some of the additional skins will come over the coming months, maybe closer to Sonic X Shadow Generations' launch? Who knows. :goof:

Thanks! :wave:Always looked at forums here over the years but never bothered to create an account.

But I feel like that date is WAY too far to be a placeholder, especially with SEGA being consistent with most of their other things among Sonic when listing stuff. Feel like "12/31/2024" would be more reasonable, since the trailer does say "Available 2024", so it's just a big throw off. But yeah along side Sonic X Shadow Gens, they'll probably get alot of skins too knowing what we've seen with Superstars. Big fan of that game but I've love what Sega has been putting out recently, this one with the DLC was just super confusing in particulary for no reason, but knowing SEGA they'll kick in soon, just gotta be patient for now.
