Subway now including Sonic toys with its kids meals

Subway is now including Sonic toys with its Fresh Fit for Kids subs, just in time for Sonic’s birthday.  The toys are simple, gear mechanisms like a zoetrope (a device that displayed simple animations before film existed). The Subway website displays each toy alongside one of their Fresh Fit subs, though it’s unclear if each toy is specific to each sub.

Check out the gallery below for images of the toys, taken from their website.

CRUSH 40 performed their new Sonic song live, and we got video

CRUSH 40 performed Team Sonic Racing’s Green Light Ride at the Sonic X PUMA Launch Party last night and we got it all on video. Green Light Ride is the band’s first new Sonic song in roughly nine years, and this was its first live performance.

Check it out below:

SEGA Wants to sell you a Sonic branded toaster, but needs you to fund it by July 12

Editor’s Note: The original version of this article stated the funding deadline had already passed on June 12. The actual deadline is July 12, at 12:59 AM PST

Have you ever made a grilled cheese sandwich and thought “this would be even better with Sonic’s face on it!”? Well, Sega may just have the product for you!

On shop.sega.com, you can purchase a Sonic toaster for only $34.99! There’s a bit of a catch though. It needs 1,000 orders in order for the toaster to become an actual product and get produced. At the moment, it’s only sold 376, so it’ll need to sell over 600 more to get made.

SEGA has 29 more days to reach that goal, so hopefully we will all be eating Sonic branded toast soon! The toaster has until the end of July 12 to reach its funding goal.

Puma Shows off its shoes in a fancy display at E3

As part of their promotion of their Sonic branded sneakers, PUMA has set up a display outside of E3’s West Hall.

The display isn’t simply showing off the $130 sneakers, though. The display also includes a recreation of Green Hill’s famous loop-de-loop! The loop isn’t just a piece of cardboard either, as it also contains a giant, fully functional hamster wheel.

Unfortunately, people were apparently hurting themselves on the wheel before we arrived, and my cohort Jason Berry had to sign a liability waver before he could even stand on it for the picture I took below. As of now, walking on the wheel is no longer allowed, and the movement will be disable tomorrow.

Sonic confirmed for another round in Smash Bros Switch UPDATE: With Knuckles!

Nintendo’s E3 direct contained some good news for Sonic fans: Sonic will be returning in the latest entry in the Smash Bros series, Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

While Sonic’s movement and attacks appear to be largely unchanged, his final Smash has been altered. When Sonic goes super he will now automatically dash across the screen several times, damaging and/or knocking out anyone he hits.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate will be releasing for Nintendo Switch on December 7.

UPDATE: It’s also been confirmed through Sonic’s Smash Bros video that Knuckles will be in the game. The context of the video doesn’t make it explicitly clear what his role is in the game, but it seems like that he will be an assist trophy. Shadow filled a similar role in previous Smash Bros games.

E3 trailer for Team Sonic Racing released, includes gameplay

Sega has just released the E3 trailer for Team Sonic Racing and its got a rocking new Crush 40 tune to accompany it!

Team Sonic Racing is being developed by Sumo Digital and will be released this winter for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.

Sonic Boom’s original creative team no longer working on the show

During a panel at the Sonic Revolution convention, the original Sonic Boom creative team have confirmed that they are no longer working on the show.

When asked whether a third season was happening, head-writer Bill Freiberger confirmed that he, along writers Sam Freiberger, Alan Denton and Greg Hahn all confirmed that they were in no longer working on the show, and so therefore could not comment on the future of the series.

While not a confirmation of the show’s cancellation, this can’t be good sign for the show’s future. According to Freiberger, only SEGA really knows the future of the show right now.

The panel is currently running on Sonic Revolution’s YouTube livestream. Unfortunately, the video appears to be out of focus, but you can still hear it!

UPDATE: Freiberger has clarified with us that, even though they are not currently involved with the show, this does not mean they will not be involved in a future season.

We were also able to ask Aaron Webber about the future of the series. He uncharacteristically said “No comment.”

Crush 40 and Belly Headline Sega and Puma’s Launch Party

On Wednesday June 13, get ready to party with Belly and Crush 40 as Sega teams up with Puma to give you a rockin’ launch party for their new Sonic-themed shoes at Nice Kicks in L.A. This includes a meet and greet with Sonic Team’s own Takashi Iizuka. While the shoes go on sale on the 12th, the party is on the 13th. While no ticket info is given, it appears to be a party open to the public, so you may want to come in early before it gets too crowded.

Alex and I are bound to be there, so expect coverage right here at the Sonic Stadium. In the meantime, go to the offical launch announcement page for more information.

You Can Soon Eat Sonic The Hedgehog Curry!

From June 21st, something is going to happen, something which will change the Sonic community forever.

Sonic the Hedgehog curry will be released!

A Japan exclusive item from Geek Life, because lets be honest there is absolutely no way this will come to the west! The curry is due for release on June 21st and will be delicious I imagine.

Costing a cool 500Yen, you will soon be able to dine in quick and affordable convenience using the power of Microwave radiation.

If we manage to get some of this here at TSS, we will cook it, we will eat it and we will let you all know exactly what it tastes like.

The comments are there for all the jokes and puns you can dream of.

Team Sonic Racing Gameplay Revealed

It seems that an embargo may have lifted! A number of websites have suddenly posted lots of details about the new Sonic Racing title including our first look at gameplay!

Shacknews also had this to say…

While Sega and Sumo Digital are aiming for 15 characters, 12 players will be allowed in each race. That’s four teams of three, with each team utilizing a Speed, Technique, and Power racer. Each of these racers have their own distinct stats, vehicles, and customization options. For this demo, we got to check out Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) and Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, and Mega), each of whom showed different stats and exchanged different banter during the race.

The race itself feels like a straightforward arcade racer. The Shacknews team got to try out a piece of the Wisp Circuit, a single standard track of three laps each. The interesting aspect of this particular track is that it featured multiple paths, with the choice to go left, right, or center. Each path felt noticeably different, with some feeling longer and more straightforward, while another one offered classic Sonic loops. It’ll be interesting to see how other, more complex race tracks will encourage the use of the item-sharing mechanic.

Kotaku also posted additional details.

Team Sonic Racing is a 12-player kart racer where racers are split up into four teams. Where kart racers typically reward players for their personal performance and own finishing position, Team Sonic Racing gives each player on a team points based on their finishing position, then adds up those points for an overall team score. Simply put, you can’t win as an individual by just being the best racer; if the team doesn’t do well, then nobody does.

Team Sonic Racing gives players a number of tools to help out their fellow racers, none of which I have really seen employed in this sort of cooperative racing game before. If you pick up an item (called Wisps) while racing around the track, but are considerably further up the pack than your teammates, you can press a button to offer that item to your team. If one of your team members accepts and takes the item, it’ll warp over to them, allowing them to catch up more easily (and hopefully knock a few people off your own tail). If you’re the player falling behind, you can use that same button to request items from your team, and any players with an item available have the option to pass theirs over. By passing items between your team, hitting enemy racers with items, or pulling off collaborative racing moves like slipstream boosts, you can slowly build up a team energy meter too which, when full, can be activated to give every racer on your team a short but substantial speed boost.

We’ll update you with more details as we get them.

Team Dark Joins The Race! Rouge & Omega Confirmed for TSR!

Famitsu have revealed new details regarding Sumo Digital’s upcoming Sonic racing title. Posted to their website, a very low quality teaser image of an upcoming article about the game clearly shows both Rouge and Omega as playable characters.

Also confirmed are three wisp types, Cube, Bomb and Eagle. The image also appears to show a few new ingame screenshots, but good luck getting any detail from this quality of the preview.

The issue is due for release later this month, we’ll bring you more details as they come in.

Knuckles Doesn’t Chuckle in today’s new Sonic Mania Adventures episode

The third episode of Sonic Mania Adventures just dropped today, and as teased at the end of the last episode, it stars everyone’s favorite red, bipedal, gem-guarding echidna, Knuckles.

Will Knuckles fall for another one of Eggman’s ruses? Will he fail at his one job, again? Will he indeed not chuckle, as the news headline implies? I don’t know, because I haven’t actually watched the episode yet. Check out the video below to find out, and be sure to stick around after the credits for a little tease of what’s to come!

Sonic Mania Adventures features character art from Tyson Hesse, music from Tee Lopes, and animation from Neko Productions.

Team Sonic Racing: “Who Are You Mysterious Man Who Floats On High…”

…And launches a thousand YouTube speculation videos and Sonic fansite articles!?”

Ever since the boxart leaked of TSR, fans have been pointing to a mysterious flying figure within the image.

Some say, he’s Big the Cat in disguise, whilst others claim he’s Paul Rudd infiltrating the game, for others he’s the announcer from the original ASR finally making his debut!

Well, we don’t know who he is yet, but we do now have a much clearer look at him. Steam launched a TSR page for the game along with a higher resolution image of the boxart, so lets take a closer look.

It’s…! A mysterious flying guy! He’s in a car and he has a hat! He can grow a great big fluffy moustache! He wears a robe, like a king, or emperor!

Who is he? We’ll let you know the moment we find out!

Sonic The Comic Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Sonic the Comic is celebrating its 25th anniversary this week, having first appeared in corner shops and news agents across the UK back in May 1993.

For fans living outside the UK (or are too young to remember!) the publication ran for nine years from 1993 to 2002 through Fleetway comics and later Egmont magazines, producing a total of 223 issues. The darker tone of the comics and the portrayal of characters garnered a cult following of fans, inspiring a resurrection of the comic in an online incarnation in the form of Sonic the Comic Online, which continues to present day.

To celebrate this milestone year in the comic’s lifetime, STCO has released issue number 275 with a 32-page story bringing to a conclusion some of the longest running storylines in the series.

Additionally, a Sonic the Comic 25th anniversary party will be taking place on Sunday, 3rd of June 2018 at the FAB café in Manchester. More information on the event, which will see many of the prolific contributors to Sonic the Comic including Richard Elson and Nigel Kitching in attendance, can be found on the event’s facebook page.

From everyone here at The Sonic Stadium, we wish Sonic the Comic a very happy birthday!

First Screenshots And Price of Team Sonic Racing Leaked

Following our news story on the the title and cover of Sonic’s latest racing game come three screenshots, courtesy of Walmart.com. The images show Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow racing on what appears to be a track taken from Planet Wisp. Wal-Mart have also listed the game price-listed at $39.96 (USD). Whether this is just a place holder or this is a Switch exclusive game remains to be seen. For now, here’s two more screenshots from this upcoming game. Click on the images for a higher res version.

“Team Sonic Racing” Cover Image Leaked

UPDATED WITH HIGHER QUALITY IMAGES. The full title of the mystery Sonic game along with what’s likely the official cover has finally been revealed thanks to a leaked image on Wal-Mart’s app. Team Sonic Racing (Super Sonic Racing would have been so much better IMO) is the third in the Sonic racing series in the past ten years, only this time there doesn’t appear to be a regular Sega character in sight. The cover is from the Nintendo Switch version, but it should arrive on PS4 and XB1 as well.

Just two days ago, Sega teased the game from it’s official Twitter account. This leads me to believe we should be getting a full announcement later today if not Thursday. Team Sonic Racing is likely due this fall or holiday season. We’ll be giving you more and more coverage of this game is we get closer to E3.

Credit goes to Sonic Revolution’s own Lidice “Angelidia” Mendoza for discovering the leak.

RUMOUR: Paul Rudd “Eyed” As Lead Role In Sonic Movie

As the scheduled dates for the filming of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie approaches, the first bit of information about the film appears to have surfaced. ‘thatHashTagShow’, a site listing details on geek culture news, claim to already know the identity of a key actor in the film.

Paul Rudd, who made his name in the hit sitcom Friends and as Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is tipped by the site as “being eyed” for the lead role in the movie.

Its believed that Rudd will play the part of Tom, a cop who befriends Sonic to take down Eggman.

Sonic Twitter Meme Hints at Upcoming Sonic Mania Adventures Episode, Game Announcement

The official Sonic the Hedgehog twitter loves its online memes and it may now be using one to hint at some upcoming announcements.

In an image that manages to combine the Sonic Mania Adventures meme with the recent Privacy Policy meme, which pokes fun at the EU’s General Privacy Protection Regulation law, there is a message that says the next Sonic Mania Adventures episode will be released “this month,” and that a new game announcement is forthcoming.

So we can probably expect the next episode of Sonic Mania Adventures by May 30. The “new game” is almost certainly a reference to the as-yet untitled Sonic racing game revealed a few months ago. It would be surprising if that game didn’t get a full reveal by the time E3 comes around next month.

A team from the company behind the mobile app Sonic Dash will be taking part in the Twin Town Challenge 2018 using their Sonic Dash car, a refurbished 1999 BMW 528i.

The race sees 100 cars, comprised entirely from suped-up “bangers” purchased for £500 or less, drive from Oxfordshire in the UK to Le Touquet, France, all the way taking part in challenges.

All competitors raise money for SpecialEffect, a charity who specialise in developing gaming technologies for disabled children.
